Chapter 566 : Drank Too Much
"Are you sure we can finish all this food with just the two of us?" Xu Qing asked skeptically, eyeing the feast spread across the table.
Ling Ning shrugged. "This is already the minimum I could make. I’ve stored everything that can be preserved, but these ingredients would go to waste if we don’t eat them. So, Xu Qing, you’ll have to give it your all~"
"Even so, I can only eat so much on my own."
"Less talking, more eating! Trust me, it may look like a lot, but it’s really not. Plus, this is a meal I cooked myself—I promise you won’t be disappointed," Ling Ning said with a smile.
Barely a few bites into her meal, Ling Ning suddenly remembered something—she had forgotten the beer she bought earlier. She got up and fetched it from the fridge. There were only twelve cans, but it was more than enough for two people.
Taking a sip, Ling Ning savored the beer. While it was good even in winter, she thought it might have tasted better if it had been chilled a bit longer.
"Is beer really that good? It tastes so bitter," Xu Qing remarked with a frown.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. You don’t understand, Xiao Qing Qing. Beer is wonderful, though it’s not something to be overindulged in," Ling Ning said, taking another sip.
One can quickly disappeared, but Ling Ning’s body, which wasn’t great with alcohol, didn’t show any signs of getting drunk yet. She opened a second can without hesitation.
Ling Ning estimated her current alcohol tolerance was about two cans of beer. Anything more, and she’d likely get tipsy—or worse, completely black out.
Meanwhile, watching Ling Ning enjoy herself, Xu Qing quietly picked up a can and took a small sip. It tasted just as bitter as she remembered. How could Ling Ning enjoy something like this?
Soon, Ling Ning finished her second can. Despite the voice in her head telling her to stop, she couldn’t resist grabbing another, reasoning that tomorrow was a weekend and there wasn’t anything important to do.
"Are you sure drinking so much beer is fine?"
Xu Qing asked, her cheeks slightly flushed from finishing her own can. While she wasn’t drunk, the faint blush on her face gave her a more alluring appearance.
"It’s fine! Tomorrow’s a day off, and besides, you’re here. If I get drunk, I’ll leave everything to you~" Ling Ning said shamelessly.
"Do whatever you want."
After some time, Ling Ning looked at the remaining food on the table and sighed. No matter how much she ate, it felt like she’d barely made a dent.
Looking at Xu Qing, Ling Ning’s gaze seemed to say, *Can you eat a bit more?* Xu Qing caught the look and immediately waved her hands. "Don’t look at me! I can’t eat another bite."
She had done her best, but even though the food was delicious, she couldn’t stomach any more.
Seeing Xu Qing’s panicked expression, Ling Ning sighed softly. "It’s fine if you’re full. Do I look like someone who’d force you to eat?"
"A little…"
"So, that’s how you see me? I’m so hurt~"
Xu Qing rolled her eyes. Despite her words, Ling Ning’s cheerful smile said otherwise.
Stretching contentedly, Ling Ning got up to clear the table. Xu Qing offered to help but was quickly turned down. "It’s just a bit of cleanup—I can handle it."
However, as she washed the dishes, Ling Ning started to feel a little foggy. Perhaps the alcohol was finally taking effect. Her actions slowed, but she managed to finish before stepping into the living room and flopping onto the sofa.
Xu Qing, startled by Ling Ning’s sudden action, noticed the abnormal redness of her face.
"Are you okay, Ling Ning?"
"I’m fine. Just feels like I drank too much."
"I told you not to drink so much!" Xu Qing scolded lightly.
"It’s been ages since I last drank… couldn’t resist…"
Ling Ning’s voice took on an unintentional hint of coyness, perhaps due to the alcohol.
"Alright, let’s get you to your room. You’ll catch a cold on the sofa."
"I can do it myself…"
Ling Ning said, trying to stand. However, as she wobbled unsteadily, she instinctively grabbed Xu Qing’s hand, causing both of them to fall back onto the sofa.
Xu Qing found herself atop Ling Ning. The sight before her—the faintly flushed face, the slightly parted lips exhaling warm, alcohol-tinged breath—made Xu Qing feel slightly tipsy herself.
"S-sorry," Ling Ning mumbled, her words slurred.
Xu Qing stared at Ling Ning’s lips, hesitation and conflict evident in her eyes. After a moment, as if reaching a decision, she slowly leaned down and kissed Ling Ning.
Feeling the softness of Ling Ning’s lips, Xu Qing was overwhelmed by a sense of liberation, as though breaking free from some invisible restraint. She deepened the kiss, fully immersing herself.
Drunken Ling Ning stood no chance against Xu Qing.
After what felt like an eternity, Xu Qing finally pulled away, a delicate string of saliva connecting their lips. The sight was strangely captivating.
Looking at Ling Ning, who was panting softly beneath her, Xu Qing asked in a low voice, "Ling Ning, can I ask you something?"
"…Mm," Ling Ning murmured in response.
"What… what’s your relationship with Xia You?"
