Chapter 512 : No Snacks, I'll Die
“Sigh, how many times do I have to tell you? Stop playing with your phone while walking. So what if you didn’t get a rare drop after 10,000 attempts? It’s not that big of a deal!”
Lin Yue looked at her mother with exasperation. Every time they went shopping, her mother would get lost nine out of ten times. After all this time, Lin Yue still found it miraculous that her mother hadn’t been kidnapped and turned into a weapon of mass destruction.
Instinctively, she glanced at Ling Ning’s group nearby. Why was it that her mother always ended up being found by Ling Ning? How many times had this happened now!?
“No snacks. Without snacks, I’ll die,” Chen Ruo muttered, pouting her lips.
Lin Yue sighed helplessly, then walked up to Ling Ning and quietly said, “This time...thank you.”
Though reluctant, Lin Yue still felt it was necessary to thank Ling Ning for finding her mother.
Ling Ning chuckled softly. “It’s no big deal. I just happened to notice Chen Ruo wandering alone while shopping for clothes and thought she might be lost. By the way, Chen Ruo mentioned you were out shopping for clothes. If you don’t mind, why not join us?”
“Thanks for the offer, but shopping with just the two of us is fine.”
“Is that so? That’s a pity. I was hoping to use my platinum membership card to help you save some money~” Ling Ning turned away, her face showing a perfectly executed look of regret.
“W-Wait!” Lin Yue suddenly called out, then muttered quietly, “Actually, shopping together doesn’t sound so bad…”
“It’s settled then! Let’s go~”
A delighted smile appeared on Ling Ning’s face. Lin Yue was just too sweet. And the platinum membership card borrowed from Qin Qing really was a fantastic asset.
Seeing her daughter agree to shop with Ling Ning, Chen Ruo’s eyes widened in surprise. She hadn’t expected her daughter to give in so easily—it felt almost unbelievable.
Quickening her steps, Chen Ruo approached Ling Ning and whispered, “Ling Ning, how did you convince my Xiao Yue?”
“Oh, if Chen Ruo gives me a kiss, I might just tell you~” Ling Ning teased softly in her ear.
As expected, Chen Ruo’s face turned beet red upon hearing this. She was so flustered she could barely speak. If this were an anime, steam would surely be rising from her head by now.
Walking behind them, Lin Yue glanced at Ling Ning and frowned. This shameless woman had managed to make her mother blush with just one sentence. She must have ulterior motives for her mother, and Lin Yue would never allow her mom to fall into this woman’s hands.
Ling Ye, on the other hand, was thinking along similar lines. What kind of sorcery had that hopelessly lost Chen Ruo used to make her mom look so pleased?
Meanwhile, Xia You watched the interaction between Ling Ning and Chen Ruo with a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes.

“My taste is still impeccable!”
Looking at her daughter dressed in the new outfit, Ling Ning nodded in satisfaction. All the overtime she had been putting in over the past month had been worth it. For a moment, she’d worried her fashion sense might have slipped.
Ling Ye examined herself in the mirror. Finally, she looked like a middle schooler. Maybe now people wouldn’t mistake her for an elementary schooler anymore~
“Alright, let’s buy this outfit too!”
As Ling Ning seemed lost in her excitement, Xia You gently tugged on her sleeve and whispered, “L-Ling Ning, we’ve already bought quite a lot of clothes.”
“It’s fine! This is nothing. We should at least buy two more outfits for Ye Ye~”
Xia You sighed helplessly. Having lived with Ling Ning for so long, she knew one thing for certain: if it involved her daughter, Ling Ning wouldn’t hesitate to spend, no matter the cost.
Ling Ning really did spoil her daughter.
While her daughter tried on clothes, Ling Ning casually looked around and noticed Lin Yue a short distance away, holding two jackets and seeming conflicted.
Ling Ning approached her with a smile. “Having trouble deciding, Xiao Yue?”
Startled, Lin Yue turned to look at Ling Ning, hesitating for a moment before nodding. She figured Ling Ning, being a professional model, would have a much better eye for these things than her, a middle schooler. Listening to her advice wouldn’t hurt.
“Let me see~”
Ling Ning studied the two jackets, then gave Lin Yue a long, scrutinizing look.
Lin Yue blinked, feeling slightly uncomfortable under Ling Ning’s intense gaze. It was as if she were being completely seen through.
Just as Lin Yue was about to say something, Ling Ning suddenly commented, “Hmm, Xiao Yue seems to be developing quite well.”
“Huh?!”
“I’m kidding. What I mean is, this jacket suits you better. Try it on, and you’ll see.”
Hesitant, Lin Yue tried on both jackets. As expected, the one Ling Ning recommended looked significantly better.
“I have a question for you, Xiao Yue. Why do you always look so serious? You’d be much prettier if you smiled more.”
“I just don’t feel like smiling, that’s all.”
“Eh~ At your age, shouldn’t you smile more? If you did, the number of boys chasing you might double, you know~” Ling Ning teased playfully.
Lin Yue, however, only snorted dismissively. “If smiling more meant fewer annoying people, I might consider it.”
Ling Ning chuckled softly but didn’t press the matter.
At that moment, she realized Chen Ruo had disappeared. Glancing around, she finally spotted her crouched in a corner, engrossed in her phone.
Ling Ning walked over and asked, “Chen Ruo, aren’t you buying anything?”
Chen Ruo blinked, only just realizing she had been addressed. “Ling Ning, don’t be ridiculous. Do you think someone my age should be shopping in a store like this?”
Ling Ning gave her a serious once-over before nodding earnestly. With Chen Ruo’s youthful appearance, people might genuinely believe she was a middle schooler.
