Chapter 492 : D Customization
“Ye Ye, stop squirming!”
Ling Ning sighed as she looked at her daughter, who was sitting on her lap. Every time she tried to towel-dry Ling Ye’s hair, the girl couldn’t sit still, making her freshly changed pajamas damp.
“Okay, okay.”
Ling Ye grumbled reluctantly, but after her Mom’s stern warning, she stopped moving.
People really should learn to be satisfied, Ling Ning thought. Teasing her daughter was fun, but moderation was key.
With Ling Ye behaving, drying her hair became much easier. Ling Ning couldn’t understand why her daughter always fidgeted during this process—it was such a waste of time.
Satisfied with her work, Ling Ning nodded and said, “Alright, that’s good enough. Let it air-dry from here. Don’t you have writing to do? You can get to it now.”
“Mom, let me dry your hair for you!”
Ling Ye hopped out of her Mom’s lap and grabbed another dry towel. Without waiting for a response, she unwrapped the towel from Ling Ning’s head.
Ling Ning opened her mouth to object but stopped herself. This was the first time her daughter had offered to dry her hair. She decided to enjoy this rare moment of service.
As Ling Ye worked on her hair, Ling Ning closed her eyes in comfort. She hadn’t expected her daughter to be so skilled at it—it was surprisingly relaxing.
“Mom, your hair’s gotten pretty long~”
“Yeah, it has.”
Ling Ning had noticed it too. If she didn’t cut it soon, it’d be waist-length. While long hair might sound appealing, it was a hassle to manage.
After a while, Ling Ye sighed in relief. “All done, Mom!”
“Not bad~ But if you’re so good at this, why do you always ask me to dry your hair? Can’t you do it yourself?”
“Nope~”
Ling Ning shook her head in resignation. “Fine, have it your way. I’m heading over to Xia You’s place now. Don’t worry, I won’t stay too late—I haven’t forgotten our plans.”
“Okay.”
Ling Ning left the house and walked a short distance to Xia You’s door. She pulled out a key and let herself in. Judging by how much time she had spent drying her hair, Xia You was probably gaming by now.
Sure enough, Xia You was hunched over her computer. As Ling Ning approached, she saw what Xia You was playing: 3D Custom Maid. The maid on-screen looked oddly familiar.
Noticing Ling Ning’s presence, Xia You instinctively turned around and froze. Ling Ning was standing silently behind her, staring at the screen—or rather, the maid she had customized.
“So, Xia You, this maid… you didn’t model her after me, did you?”
“Um… um, training maids is fun! Want to try it, Ling Ning?” Xia You asked awkwardly.
“N-no thanks.”
Ling Ning blinked. Deep down, she was a little curious about the game, but her pride wouldn’t let her admit it. Besides, what if her daughter caught her playing it? How would she explain it?
Maybe I could say it’s a maid training simulator… That actually might work.
“Since you’re here, let’s start recording,” Xia You said, steering the conversation away.
Xia You had everything ready for another gaming video. Since joining Xia You’s recordings, Ling Ning had gained quite a few followers on her own Bilibli account. Some even asked why she didn’t make her own videos.
The answer was simple—she didn’t have the time. Between writing and working, where could she fit it in?
In truth, Ling Ning had considered making her own videos when bored but always abandoned the idea due to sheer laziness.
“What are we playing tonight? Is it Mage vs. White Science Theorist, Philosophers’ War, or A Million Ways to Die as a Jerk?” Ling Ning asked curiously.
While the titles sounded absurd, the games themselves were packed with rich content and life lessons.
Xia You shook her head with a mysterious smile. “Tonight, we’re playing battle royale!”
“Wait, what!?”

“Hahaha! Tonight’s chicken dinner is mine!”
Ling Ning cheered as the screen displayed “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.” Her aim was on point today, and her luck couldn’t have been better.
Every match started with top-tier gear nearby. By the time she and Xia You finished looting, they were fully kitted out. Supply drops even seemed to follow them around.
At one point, Ling Ning randomly fired into a bush and managed to take out two hiding enemies. Xia You was speechless. She had planned to carry Ling Ning to victory but ended up being carried instead.
Not that Xia You minded—it was one of the smoothest matches she’d ever played.
Stretching contentedly, Ling Ning said, “That’s it for me. It’s getting late. I should head back. You should sleep soon too, Xia You~”
“Okay.”
Seeing the slightly disappointed look in Xia You’s eyes, Ling Ning smiled. She leaned in and gave Xia You a quick kiss on the lips before leaving with a cheerful wave.
After Ling Ning left, Xia You touched her lips and smiled. Turning back to her screen, she said,
“I’ll edit this video before bed.”

Back at home, Ling Ning noticed the empty living room. Since her daughter wasn’t gaming there, she was probably in her room writing.
So diligent, Ling Ning thought. She should really learn from Ling Ye instead of slacking off so much.
Knocking on Ling Ye’s door, Ling Ning said, “Ye Ye, it’s late. Time to get ready for bed.”
“O-okay, I’ll be there soon.”
If Ling Ning had opened the door, she would have seen Ling Ye playing 3D Custom Maid. The maid on-screen bore a striking resemblance to someone familiar.
Ling Ye quickly closed the game and let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness her Mom hadn’t walked in. Otherwise, she’d have had to explain everything amidst awkward laughter.

I don’t get it. Salty Fish doesn’t get it. Also, the tsundere Salty Fish from the last chapter is from another timeline—not me! That’s how it is!
