How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

Chapter 490 : Feeling Stuffed Up

Ling Ning followed behind her daughter, her expression hesitant. She felt like she was suffering from a severe case of constipation—not physically, but emotionally.

Ling Ye noticed her mother’s strange behavior, slowed her pace, and smiled at her. “What’s wrong, Mom?”

“N-no, it’s nothing.” Ling Ning blinked but couldn’t resist asking, “I was just curious… Who is the person you like, Ye Ye?”

“Eh!?” Ling Ye stopped in her tracks, startled. Then a mischievous grin spread across her face. “I thought you’d ask how it felt to be confessed to by a girl. Aren’t you even a little curious about that?”

Ling Ning chuckled and gently ruffled her daughter’s hair. “Whether my daughter likes boys or girls doesn’t matter to me. As long as you’re happy, that’s all I care about.” She paused before adding, “Of course, whether it’s a boy or a girl, they’ll need my approval first!”

“Oh~” Ling Ye nodded thoughtfully. “So you really want to know who I like, Mom?”

Ling Ning nodded firmly. She was incredibly curious. Judging by Ling Ye’s earlier expression, it didn’t seem like she was joking.

The thought of her daughter having someone she liked left Ling Ning feeling stuffed up.

“I can tell you, but there’s one condition…”

“What condition? Name it! Even if it’s ten conditions, Mom will agree to them!” Ling Ning declared without hesitation.

“It’s simple. Tonight, I want to eat Mom’s best dishes. And I want us to take a bath together and sleep together, too!”

“Deal!”

Cooking a feast was already part of Ling Ning’s plan, and bathing and sleeping together were just part of their usual routine.

Satisfied, Ling Ye looked around dramatically before leaning in and whispering, “Alright, Mom, come closer, and I’ll tell you.”

Eagerly, Ling Ning leaned in, her heart brimming with anticipation.

“The person I like… is you, Mom!”

“Eh!?”

Ling Ning blinked in confusion, feeling like her daughter had just pulled a fast one on her. How was this any different from not answering at all?

As Ling Ning stood there, stunned, Ling Ye leaned in and kissed her on the cheek before skipping away, leaving her bewildered mother behind.

“Ye Ye! You’re teasing your Mom again!”

“No, I’m being completely honest!”

“Don’t run! Looks like you’ve forgotten what Mom’s wrath feels like!”

“Catch me if you can! If you do, I’ll let you hehehe~”

“Ugh, I’m dead tired!”

Back home, Ling Ning flopped onto the sofa, utterly drained. She couldn’t believe how fast her daughter could run. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t catch her. Now, her legs felt like jelly.

“I definitely need to set aside some time to work out,” Ling Ning thought to herself.

Though she had considered exercising many times, laziness always won out. Spending that time working at home seemed much more practical.

Ling Ning sighed, still deeply curious about who her daughter liked. But every time she brought it up, Ling Ye would just tease her. What could she do?

Resigned, she got up and headed to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

Meanwhile, Ling Ye lay sprawled on Ling Ning’s bed, looking frustrated. No matter how many times she said it, her mother always assumed she was joking. She had expected this, but it still left her feeling annoyed.

Burying her face in Ling Ning’s pillow, the familiar scent calmed her nerves. Her depleted “Mom Energy” felt replenished.

After a while, Ling Ye got up and wandered to the kitchen, where she found her mother wearing an apron and busy cooking.

“Mom, do you need help?”

“No, I can handle it myself.”

“Come on, let me help~”

Ignoring her mother’s response, Ling Ye squeezed into the kitchen. She still remembered the time her mother was sick, and she had to cook for her. While her dishes weren’t visually appealing, they were edible—and actually tasted pretty good.

Seeing her daughter insist on helping, Ling Ning sighed and let her. As long as she kept an eye on things, nothing should go too wrong.

“Mom, doesn’t this need soy sauce?”

“Mom, wouldn’t this taste better with some milk?”

“Mom, why not add some dark soy sauce? The color looks so plain!”

Wiping sweat from her forehead, Ling Ning reflected on how chaotic things had been when her daughter had cooked for her last time. Somehow, the bizarre combination of ingredients had turned out okay.

She started to wonder if her fever back then had dulled her sense of taste.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Ling Ning guessed it was Xia You. Without needing to be told, Ling Ye eagerly ran to answer it.

As expected, it was Xia You.

After stepping inside and seeing Ling Ning busy in the kitchen, Xia You was about to offer to help but was stopped by Ling Ye.

“What’s wrong, Ye Ye?”

“Mom doesn’t need help today. I’ve got it covered!”

Seeing Ling Ye’s proud demeanor, Xia You blinked, unsure of what to say.

“Xia You, take a seat in the living room. Ye Ye insisted on helping today.”

“Alright~”

Xia You nodded, sitting down obediently. She couldn’t help but wonder if it was really okay to let Ling Ye, who wasn’t exactly skilled in the kitchen, take charge.

“Oh, Xia You, do you want something to drink tonight?”

“What does Ling Ning want to drink?”

“Alcohol, of course! It’s been ages since I had a drink. Could you grab some beer from downstairs? Just the usual amount.” Ling Ning paused before adding, “Not too much. Like before is fine.”

Even though there were no classes the next day, Ling Ning didn’t want to get drunk. The aftermath was always unpleasant.

“Sure.”
