Chapter 483 : A Very Important Matter
“I’ve already told you—I have someone I like. Please stop bothering me, okay?”
Li Qian looked helplessly at the handsome boy in front of her. He was her classmate and their class president. On the first day of school, he had approached her and inexplicably taken a liking to her.
That wasn’t the main problem, though. The issue was that this boy often confused her with her younger sister, not even recognizing who she was. How could she possibly be interested in someone like that?
“But… I really like you. Can’t you give me a chance?”
“This isn’t about giving you a chance—it’s about you having the wrong person. I’m Li Meng, not Li Qian. If you can’t even tell me apart from my sister, there’s no way my sister would like you either~” Li Qian said, pretending to be exasperated.
The handsome boy froze at her words and then apologized awkwardly, “I’m sorry… I got it wrong. You two sisters just look so alike; it’s hard to tell you apart.”
As the boy walked away, Li Qian let out a long sigh of relief. She was truly at her wit’s end with this persistent suitor. At least now she’d managed to pass the blame onto her sister, which should give her a bit of peace.
Maybe being a twin who looked too much like her sibling had its advantages after all.
Checking her phone, Li Qian saw it was already noon. No wonder her stomach was growling. Time to head to the nearby cafeteria and grab some lunch.
When she arrived at the cafeteria, she was greeted by the usual bustling crowd. This cafeteria was renowned for having the best food in S University, so it was always packed.
Just as she was contemplating whether to eat elsewhere, she spotted a familiar figure in a corner. Without any hesitation, she walked up behind the person and covered their eyes with her hands.
Ling Ning, who had been eating peacefully, suddenly found her vision obscured. Then, a familiar voice rang out, “Guess who~?” At the same time, a familiar fragrance wafted into her nose.
After thinking for a moment, Ling Ning smiled and said, “Isn’t this Xiao Qian Qian? Long time no see.”
“Ling Ning, you guessed wrong! I’m Li Meng.”
Letting go of her hands, Li Qian sat down beside Ling Ning with a bright smile. What a coincidence to run into Ling Ning here!
“Li Meng?” Ling Ning raised an eyebrow. “My eyesight isn’t that bad. I can still tell whether you’re Li Meng or Li Qian~”
“Eh!?”
Li Qian couldn’t help but feel satisfied with Ling Ning’s response, and her smile became even more radiant.
Suddenly, Ling Ning’s casual demeanor shifted to one of seriousness. She turned to Li Qian and said, “By the way, Xiao Qian Qian~ since the school year started, have you forgotten something very important~?”
“Something important?”
“Judging by your expression, you’ve clearly forgotten the promise you made to me. Was our solemn oath nothing but empty words?”
Ling Ning’s current expression resembled that of a scorned lover, and her voice wasn’t exactly quiet. Naturally, it drew the attention of nearby students.
Curious, they wondered what had happened between these two beauties. Did they both like the same person? Or could they have been a couple?
“D-don’t say things like that so loudly—it’s easy for people to misunderstand!” Li Qian quickly leaned closer to Ling Ning, covering her mouth.
The promise she had made to Ling Ning came flooding back. That “free lunch” incident was still a nightmare etched in her memory. She had hoped Ling Ning would have forgotten about it after so much time had passed, but clearly, that wasn’t the case.
“It’s just lunch, right? I’ll treat you, okay? Now, will you stop talking?”
“Ehehe~ But I’ve already bought lunch. How about we move today’s free lunch to the afternoon instead? It can be an afternoon tea~ How does that sound?”
Li Qian opened her mouth, but no words came out. Ling Ning was as shameless as ever. What else could she do? Afternoon tea was more expensive than lunch, after all.
Ling Ning’s calculations were spot on.
“Fine. You win. I’ll go grab my food now. Watch my seat for me, okay?” With that, Li Qian stood up and headed to get her meal. She was starving.
A while later, Li Qian returned with her food and sat back down across from Ling Ning. Suddenly, a thought occurred to her. “Where’s Xia You? Isn’t she in the same class as you? Why isn’t she here?”
“Oh, her? She seems to be busy with something lately.”
Speaking of Xia You, she had been quite preoccupied recently. Most of the time, she vanished right after class. Who knew what she was up to, always acting so mysteriously.
“By the way, what about your sister? You’ve been living on campus for a while now. I heard from Xiao Ya that you two don’t argue as much in the dorm anymore. Has your relationship improved?”
Li Qian rolled her eyes. Improve their relationship? Impossible. Never going to happen. The only reason they didn’t argue was that they had agreed to treat each other like air, avoiding unnecessary conflict.
Her sister was probably busy being pestered by that annoying class president right about now. The thought made Li Qian feel a little better.
Noticing Li Qian’s expression, Ling Ning could tell their relationship hadn’t improved much. Shaking her head lightly, she thought, Mending their relationship will take time. Maybe things will get better eventually.
“By the way, Ling Ning, have you joined any clubs?”
“Hmm? Yeah, I joined the anime research club.”
When talking about clubs, Ling Ning felt a pang of guilt toward Lin Xi. Ever since joining the club, she had rarely attended. Especially recently, when she had been either busy or too lazy, she hadn’t even thought about it.
“Eh~ I was going to invite you to the cooking club. With your skills, you’d definitely stand out!” Li Qian said eagerly.
“Standing out doesn’t really appeal to me. I prefer smaller clubs with fewer people.”
Ling Ning was surprised to learn that Li Qian had joined the cooking club. That probably meant Li Meng had joined too. The future of the cooking club might be a bleak one, considering these two were heirs to the realm of “dark cuisine.”
Li Qian squinted at Ling Ning, her instincts telling her that Ling Ning was thinking something very rude at the moment.
