Chapter 300 : Three Hundred Chapters In—How About a Group Photo
“Are you alright?”
Ling Ning walked beside Lin Xi, watching her blank, expressionless face. Concern etched her features as she spoke softly.
“…”
Lin Xi said nothing, her head lowered, her footsteps steady yet devoid of life, as though she hadn’t heard Ling Ning’s question at all.
Ling Ning sighed deeply. Lin Xi’s current state made her reluctant to leave her alone. If I let her wander off like this, what if she ends up being lured into a basement and turned into someone’s... Ling Ning shook her head, pushing the thought away.
“Ah…”
Sighing again, Ling Ning made up her mind. Reaching out, she grabbed Lin Xi’s hand firmly and declared, “I’m taking you home!”
“Let go of me!”
Lin Xi finally reacted to Ling Ning’s touch.
“If I let go, will you go home like a good girl?”
Lin Xi paused for a moment, then yanked her hand free, pushing Ling Ning aside in the process. Caught off guard, Ling Ning stumbled backward and instinctively let go.
Freed from Ling Ning’s grip, Lin Xi took off running.
By the time Ling Ning recovered, Lin Xi had already put some distance between them. If she didn’t chase after her, she’d lose her for sure. Without a second thought, Ling Ning dropped everything in her hands, turning to her daughter.
“Ye Ye, can you... No, never mind. There’s not much stuff anyway. Ye Ye, please take these things home for me, okay? I’ll make it up to you later!”
Ling Ning had initially intended to have her daughter wait for her return, but upon assessing the situation, she realized she might not be back anytime soon. The items weren’t heavy—mostly clothes for her daughter and some instant noodles and snacks Lin Xi had purchased. The house wasn’t far, and her daughter could handle it.
With that, Ling Ning sprinted in the direction Lin Xi had gone, leaving Ling Ye behind with a pile of bags.
Ling Ye stared at the scene, blinking in confusion. After a long moment, she muttered, “She’d better compensate me for this later!” Then, with a determined grunt, she began hauling the bags home.

“Wait, wasn’t Lin Xi supposed to have an injured leg? How is she running so fast?” Ling Ning wondered aloud as she watched Lin Xi’s figure growing smaller in the distance. A wave of frustration washed over her. How did it come to this? I really need to work on my fitness. I can’t even catch up to an injured girl—what a joke!
As Lin Xi began to slow, her injured leg likely causing her pain, Ling Ning seized the opportunity. She picked up her pace, only to feel a distinct “pop” from her clothing.
Ling Ning froze. Wait… what was that sound?
A dreadful realization dawned upon her as she thought back to the morning. Could it be...
Her suspicions were confirmed when she heard the same “pop” again, followed by a loosening sensation around her chest.
It’s the bra! Ling Ning thought with dismay. The straps were giving out. I should have replaced it earlier. Why did I try to save money on something so important?
Desperate to catch Lin Xi, Ling Ning pressed on. But with every step, her bra threatened to betray her entirely.
“Please, just hold on a little longer!” she pleaded internally.

Finally, in a quiet alley, Ling Ning caught up with Lin Xi. She stopped in front of her, gasping for air, her chest still aching from the strain of her now-ruined bra.
“Why… why did you chase me?” Lin Xi demanded, her voice low and hoarse.
“Because… in this state… it looks like you’re about to do something drastic,” Ling Ning panted. “How could I not follow you? I’m exhausted…”
Lin Xi said nothing. Her injured leg was throbbing, and the pain finally overwhelmed her. Unable to stand any longer, she slumped to the ground, not caring about the dirt.
“You shouldn’t sit down right after running,” Ling Ning said, though she followed Lin Xi’s lead, collapsing beside her. She kept a firm grip on Lin Xi’s hand, unwilling to let her escape again.
“Listen, the world is full of possibilities. There’s no need to fixate on one person. With your looks, you could find someone a hundred times better!” Ling Ning rattled off every comforting phrase she could think of, not stopping to check if they were coherent.
Lin Xi glanced at Ling Ning, a sudden urge to laugh bubbling up. She had never noticed this “perverted freak” had such a knack for being a doting mother.
“If you need to cry, just let it out,” Ling Ning said gently.
Lin Xi froze at the words, intending to deny her tears. But before she could speak, she realized her face was already wet. The tears came unbidden, flowing freely.
Ling Ning smiled softly, offering her shoulder. “Here, use this for now.”
“Waaaah!”
As Lin Xi buried her face in Ling Ning’s shoulder, sobbing uncontrollably, Ling Ning said nothing more. She simply placed a comforting hand on Lin Xi’s head, stroking her hair gently.

After what felt like an eternity, Lin Xi’s sobs subsided. Still leaning on Ling Ning’s shoulder, she mumbled, “Let’s go home.”
“Alright,” Ling Ning replied.
She turned to look at Lin Xi’s red, puffy eyes. Though Lin Xi appeared disheveled, she seemed far better than the lifeless shell she’d been earlier.
But as they prepared to leave, Lin Xi winced in pain. Her injured leg, which had felt fine earlier, was now throbbing again after the rest.
Ling Ning sighed. “Hop on. I’ll carry you.”
“Can you even manage that?” Lin Xi asked skeptically.
“Take it or leave it!”
“Alright, alright! But you’d better not drop me.”
“You’re so heavy—what have you been eating?”
“Shut up! I’m not heavy. You’re just weak!”
