Chapter 269 : Mom, I Think I Met a Creepy Girl Today—It Was So Scary!
“So, this is really happening, huh?”
Ling Ning stood onstage, her expression completely blank. She had not anticipated this turn of events. All she had wanted was to sit quietly in the audience and enjoy being a beautiful bystander. Yet somehow, she’d found herself roped into a game competition in front of a massive crowd. How did things end up like this?
The person most thrilled by Ling Ning’s unexpected appearance was Xia You, and it just so happened that they were assigned to the same team. With Ling Ning by her side, Xia You was confident she could crush the opposing team.
The game selected for their competition was the one where “handsome men and beautiful women pull out their weapons to duel the moment they lock eyes,” with occasional appearances by gorillas jumping back and forth. In other words, they were playing Overwatch.
Across from Ling Ning sat Long Aotian, the young man who had earlier asked Xia You for an autograph.
He glanced over his shoulder and noticed Ling Ning looking in his direction. A bit panicked, he quickly turned back around, wondering if this pretty girl had taken a liking to him. She was certainly attractive, but… he already had a boyfriend. Just thinking about his muscular, explosive partner brought a small, contented smile to his face.
Though this was only a small competition, the winning team would receive a few prizes from the event sponsors. Ling Ning didn’t care much about the rewards—until she noticed that one of the prizes was a shopping gift card. Upon seeing that, she decided to give the match her all.
“Xia You, do you play Overwatch?” Ling Ning asked, a little unsure. To her knowledge, Xia You had never posted any Overwatch gameplay videos.
“I’ve played a bit~”
Although Xia You’s words were casual, her voice exuded absolute confidence. She had only played a little, but she was certain that no game, once mastered, could pose a challenge to her skills—especially with Ling Ning by her side. Together, she felt invincible.
After a quick warm-up session with her teammates, the match officially began. The first map was the classic “King’s Row.” Ling Ning chose not to play Tracer this time, feeling that her “lucky shots” with Tracer were too unreliable. She opted instead for the character she knew best, dual-wielding Mercy.
Although Ling Ning had been among the top 500 players in her past life, it had been a while since she last played. And the guests on the opposing team were no slouches, plus they had a skilled member of the audience supporting them—someone ranked among the top players.
Looking at her own team, she felt confident in the skill levels of her fellow guests, but the two audience members with them were complete novices. Despite their best efforts, they found themselves gradually overwhelmed, ultimately losing the control point.
As the “Round One Complete” screen appeared, Ling Ning took a deep breath. Winning would be tough, but perhaps not impossible. Her gaze shifted to Tracer—perhaps this was a chance to try her “lucky shots.”
Seeing her character switch to Tracer, the crowd immediately broke into boos.
“Does that girl even know how to play? She was doing fine with Mercy—why switch to Tracer? And with that lineup? Tsk tsk~”
“Probably given up. The skill gap between the teams is just too big~”
“If only I were playing…”

Even Xia You was a bit surprised by Ling Ning’s choice, but she had complete trust in her. If Ling Ning chose Tracer, there had to be a reason behind it.
The second round started.
Long Aotian smirked when he noticed Ling Ning had switched to Tracer. He figured she must be ready to throw the match. But before he could complete that thought, his character’s head was pierced by an arrow, and his screen went dark.
Long Aotian stared dumbfounded at the death replay, realizing he’d fallen victim to an unbelievably lucky shot.
A short while later, Long Aotian sensed something was amiss. His teammates were being picked off one by one. Apart from one teammate who was taken out by Xia You’s Soldier 76, everyone else had been eliminated by Ling Ning’s Tracer.
When Long Aotian respawned, he didn’t rush out recklessly this time. He waited for his team to regroup. But then—whizz—an arrow seemingly shot at random pierced his head once again.
The crowd went wild.
“Holy—! How’s she even doing that? Shooting arrows into open space, and someone just runs right into it?”
“It’s true what they say—landing a shot is only half the skill. The other half is someone willing to take it~”
“Yup, she’s got that luck factor going!”

With the battlefield now dictated by Ling Ning’s lucky shots, the opposing team’s rhythm crumbled, and her team managed to win back the round.
The third round wasn’t as easy, though. The other team switched tactics, going into an all-out “dogpile” mode with two tanks to prevent Ling Ning from splitting her focus. But with Ling Ning tying up both tanks on her own, her team felt the pressure ease on the main battlefront.
After a final team wipe of the opposition, the match ended in victory.
“Whew…”
Ling Ning removed her headset, listening to the applause and cheers from the audience below. She took a deep breath. She had only wanted to test her luck with a few wild shots, but somehow, it had worked out perfectly.
“Ling Ning, you’re amazing~” Xia You praised sincerely. She’d only seen Ling Ning play single-player games before and had thought her skills were average. She hadn’t expected Ling Ning to be this skilled in a team game.
“Eh heh heh~ It was just luck, really,” Ling Ning said modestly, scratching her head.
Prize in hand, Ling Ning returned to her seat in the audience and found herself next to the lovely female host from earlier. She couldn’t help but glance down at the woman’s legs again, immediately noticing the discrepancy—one of her stockings was noticeably higher than the other.
The female host felt Ling Ning’s gaze and grew puzzled. Why was this pretty girl staring at her legs? She knew her legs were attractive, but was it really something another girl would notice?
“Um, your stockings…”
“Eh?!”
Hearing Ling Ning’s words, the host froze and instinctively looked down at her legs, realizing one stocking was indeed a bit lower than the other. The difference wasn’t glaring, but upon closer inspection, it was obvious.
So this beautiful girl had noticed the slight asymmetry in her stockings? If it were a guy, she could understand, but if it were a girl…
“Mom, I think I met a creepy girl today—it was so scary!”
