Chapter 235 : Bai Jie Bai Jie!
“Mm~”
Bai Yiyue slowly opened her bleary eyes, taking in the sight of a snow-white ceiling. After a moment, she finally reacted, reaching up to pull a pair of white panda-patterned panties off her head.
It seemed that during her exploration of Ling Ning’s room last night, she’d come across these childishly cute panda-print panties, which even elementary school kids might refuse to wear. This discovery left her both amused and nostalgic, thinking how, in some ways, Ling Ning was still the same as when they were kids—still fond of cute things.
Taking in the familiar, comforting scent of Ling Ning that filled the room, Bai Yiyue closed her eyes in bliss, thinking she’d get a bit more sleep. But a thought struck her, and she quickly pulled back the covers, got out of bed, and carefully placed the panda panties back where she’d found them. She even double-checked to make sure she hadn’t left any hair on them.
Honestly, if Ling Ning walked in and saw her holding or—heaven forbid—wearing her underwear, she’d definitely throw her out on the spot.
Thinking of Ling Ning, Bai Yiyue suddenly wondered if she’d woken up yet. If she hadn’t…
Moved by a mischievous impulse, Bai Yiyue slipped on her slippers and tiptoed out of Ling Ning’s room. She checked the time—it was late enough that Ling Ye should already be at school. Last night, she hadn’t gotten a moment alone with Ling Ning because Ling Ye had watched her like a hawk. But now, with no one in her way, it was the perfect opportunity to “sneak a little affection” from Ling Ning.
After checking the living room and bathroom to confirm Ling Ning hadn’t gotten up, Bai Yiyue quietly crept to Ling Ning’s bedroom door and gently opened it.
Inside, she saw Ling Ning sound asleep, completely unaware of her surroundings. Without hesitation, Bai Yiyue climbed into bed beside her, feeling utterly content to have Ling Ning’s warmth so close.
Ling Ning hadn’t slept this well in ages. With her “daughter pillow” missing, she’d been able to rest deeply, only waking once it was fully light out.
Half-asleep, Ling Ning felt someone lying beside her. Thinking it was her daughter, she instinctively wrapped her arms around Bai Yiyue and held her close.
Several minutes passed before Ling Ning, still groggy, started to realize something was off. Her “daughter” seemed far bigger than usual, and hadn’t her daughter gone to school already? Then who…?
Slowly, Ling Ning opened her drowsy eyes, only to find Bai Yiyue lying in her arms, gazing up at her with an affectionate, slightly silly smile.
“When… did you sneak into my bed?” Ling Ning asked, feeling a mixture of exasperation and disbelief.
“Oh, Ling Ning, you’re so forward! The moment I climbed in, you just pulled me into a hug,” Bai Yiyue teased with a smirk. “But if it’s you, I don’t mind at all~”
Ling Ning gave her a calm but pointed look. “If you don’t drop that tone right now, you’ll be skipping breakfast.”
“Alright, alright!” Bai Yiyue quickly replied, slipping back into a normal voice. “I just got in here. By the way, don’t I deserve a good-morning kiss?”
Puckering her lips expectantly, Bai Yiyue leaned forward.
Expressionless, Ling Ning picked up a pillow and plopped it over Bai Yiyue’s face before swiftly jumping out of bed herself. As she watched Bai Yiyue, who now looked like a love-struck fool, she sighed. Her childhood friend turning out to be both a hopeless romantic and a yuri enthusiast was almost too much.
Then, a thought crossed Ling Ning’s mind. She’d left Bai Yiyue alone in her room last night—had she messed with her personal belongings? But then again, Bai Yiyue was a famous celebrity; surely she wouldn’t be interested in something as silly as her panda-print panties… right?

After breakfast, the two sat quietly on the couch, half-watching a dull soap opera on TV. Breaking the silence, Bai Yiyue asked, “Got any plans for today, Ling Ning?”
Ling Ning lazily shook her head. Now that exams were over, she felt utterly idle—no desire to work, no desire to write. This was true relaxation, pure bliss.
“In that case, why not come over to my place for a bit?” Bai Yiyue suggested.
“Your place?” Ling Ning squinted, considering it, and eventually nodded. She didn’t have anything else to do today, so a little outing might be nice. Plus, the prospect of a free lunch at Bai Yiyue’s sounded tempting.
But as soon as she stepped outside, Ling Ning felt a pang of regret. The weather was stiflingly hot, and it wasn’t even ten in the morning yet. What would it be like by the afternoon?
“Maybe I should just go back inside and take a nap,” Ling Ning muttered.
“Oh, come on! We’re already halfway there. How about I call a cab?” Bai Yiyue said, stepping out to the curb to hail a taxi. But after ten minutes without any luck, even Ling Ning, who’d been watching from the shade, started to feel bad for her.
“Forget it. Let’s just walk. It’s not that far anyway,” she said, resigned.
After braving the blazing sun, the two finally reached Bai Yiyue’s new apartment building.
Ling Ning glanced up at the modest complex and asked, “Didn’t you usually live in a villa? Aren’t you finding it cramped?”
Bai Yiyue shook her head. “It’s actually a lot cozier here. That big villa was so empty with just my mom and me. In the middle of the night, it could feel as creepy as a haunted house. I wonder why I even bought it in the first place.”
Turning her gaze back to the apartment, Bai Yiyue added, “For two people, this space is more than enough. Actually, it would still feel roomy with one or two more people.” She looked at Ling Ning meaningfully.
“Come on, let’s go inside. It’s boiling out here, and I need some air conditioning!” Ling Ning replied, already too heat-stricken to pick up on Bai Yiyue’s hints or notice her suggestive glances.
Bai Yiyue sighed inwardly. Her subtle hints had gone unnoticed, like punching a pillow and getting no response.
“Ding-dong~”
Ling Ning shot Bai Yiyue a puzzled look. “Why ring the doorbell when it’s your own place? Don’t you have a key?”
Bai Yiyue just smiled mysteriously.
After a moment, the door opened, and a beautiful woman with a voluptuous figure greeted them.
“Let me introduce you,” Bai Yiyue said with a smile. “This is my mom, Bai Jie.”

For the record, this salted fish has no idea who “Bai Jie” is, so don’t ask!
