“So, you’re planning to settle down in S City now?” Ling Ning asked, sipping her tea and glancing at Bai Yiyue, who was sprawled on the sofa without a care in the world.
Bai Yiyue nodded. “Yep! I’ve already been here a few days. I rented an apartment in that fancy complex near the shopping plaza.”
“But what about your work?”
“Oh, you know what I do—it doesn’t matter where I live. I’ll still take jobs, fly when I need to, take the train when necessary. Nothing’s really changed. Besides, I can work from anywhere, but there’s only one Ling Ning. This way, I get to be near you,” Bai Yiyue said, looking at Ling Ning seriously.
Ling Ning didn’t know how to respond. After a long pause, she asked, “It’s getting late. Aren’t you going to head home? Won’t your manager be worried?”
Bai Yiyue shook her head, looking entirely relaxed. “Nope! I finally got to see you, so I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying over, no question about it. I even gave my manager a week off, so she won’t mind.”
She explained that she’d cleared her schedule for the next three months, only keeping a few important gigs. Her goal was to spend as much of Ling Ning’s summer break as possible by her side.
After all, the whole reason she became a celebrity in the first place was to find Ling Ning. Now that she’d found her, why should she keep working so hard? She’d rather just relax.
“Fine, do as you like. You can sleep with ‘Sprite’ tonight,” Ling Ning said flatly. Knowing Bai Yiyue’s persistence, she figured there was no point trying to convince her otherwise.
“‘Sprite’? Who’s that?”
Bai Yiyue raised an eyebrow. Did someone new move in while she was away? And the name “Sprite” sounded oddly punchable.
“Meow?”
As if on cue, Sprite the cat emerged from its nook, eyeing the unfamiliar visitor in its territory with curiosity. When it noticed Bai Yiyue wearing a skirt, its eyes sparkled, and it strolled over to her.
“Oh! Ling Ning, you got a cat? It’s so cute!” Bai Yiyue bent down to pet it, but to her surprise, the kitten darted under her skirt. She froze, utterly baffled.
Ling Ning smirked. She was all too familiar with Sprite’s habit of sneaking under skirts. Her own ladylike posture, with her legs pressed together and skirt tucked neatly, showed that she was well-prepared for this. Despite her precautions, Sprite’s silent movements had still surprised her a few times. For Bai Yiyue, who had just met the kitten, it was inevitable.
After struggling for a while, Bai Yiyue finally pulled Sprite out from under her skirt. Looking at the kitten’s innocent face, she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She gently set it on the floor and, following Ling Ning’s example, sat primly with her legs together.
“Hey, isn’t this complex supposed to have a no-pets policy?” Bai Yiyue asked.
“Yep. I’m keeping Sprite secretly. Aside from its skirt-diving quirk, it’s well-behaved and doesn’t wander much. At most, it just sunbathes on the balcony,” Ling Ning explained.
“Ling Ning… about what happened this afternoon…” Bai Yiyue blinked hopefully.
“Don’t even think about it. No way,” Ling Ning replied, rejecting her without hesitation. Honestly, what was the appeal of playing tongue tag? Besides, her body always responded with a strange feeling whenever she was kissed.
Not that she disliked the feeling.
“Aw…”
Bai Yiyue pouted, still unwilling to give up, and leapt toward Ling Ning playfully. Caught off guard, Ling Ning fell backward onto the sofa, and Bai Yiyue managed to kiss her. Though she had meant it as a joke, their lips actually met.
Just then, the sound of the door opening interrupted them. Ling Ye walked in, looking cheerful, expecting to be greeted by her mom’s warm smile after her exams.
Instead, she found her mom lying on the sofa, with none other than her favorite celebrity, Bai Yiyue, on top of her—and their lips were touching.
Ling Ning quickly pushed Bai Yiyue off, her mind racing in panic. What do you do when your childhood friend kisses you and your daughter walks in? This is an emergency! Someone, please help!

From her previous chat with Ling Ye, Bai Yiyue knew her friend’s daughter was a complete “mom fanatic.” Ling Ye’s endless mentions of her mom had made that clear. Ling Ye pouted. “I don’t believe you! Who just ‘fools around’ by kissing?”
Her lips trembled, and before she knew it, tears were streaming down her face.
Seeing her daughter cry, Ling Ning panicked, rushing over to hold her and softly whispering reassurances.
Meanwhile, Bai Yiyue stood by helplessly, silently resolving to be more mindful of her surroundings from now on—to avoid incidents like this in the future.
