How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

Chapter 227 : Prprprpr

“Oh wow, isn’t that Ling Ning?”

In a villa in City D, Bai Yiyue lay sprawled on her bed, excitedly rolling back and forth while staring at the magazine cover in her hands. With a loud thud, she accidentally rolled right off the bed, but even then, she kept grinning at the magazine’s cover, absentmindedly rubbing her sore backside.

“I can’t believe Ling Ning went into modeling~” Bai Yiyue hugged the magazine, remembering her friend’s elegant figure. After some thought, she nodded to herself—someone with a perfect body like Ling Ning’s becoming a model just made sense. Yet the idea of other people seeing Ling Ning’s beauty filled her with a pang of jealousy.

“But Ling Ning is just so beautiful, from any angle~ prprprpr~ I can’t stand it! I’m buying every single copy of this issue of Goddess!” Bai Yiyue muttered dreamily.

At that moment, her bedroom door opened, and Wu Zi entered, puzzled. She’d heard a dull thump and assumed something had happened. Upon entering, she was met with the sight of her usually composed young lady sprawled on the floor, an almost foolish grin on her face, and a line of drool practically visible. From her vantage point, Wu Zi could even glimpse the lace-trimmed white panties under Bai Yiyue’s nightgown.

If Bai Yiyue’s fans saw her like this, her image as the “perfect goddess” would shatter instantly.

Realizing her position, Bai Yiyue quickly scrambled to her feet, giving Wu Zi an embarrassed smile. “Oh, Xiao Zi Zi, what are you doing in here?”

Wu Zi shuddered at Bai Yiyue’s unusually cutesy tone. Today’s young miss was definitely acting strange. Normally, Bai Yiyue never spoke in such a coy voice, and that absurd pose from before… had she hit her head when she fell?

“Hey! I’m perfectly fine!” Bai Yiyue protested, catching the incredulous look on her manager’s face. She knew exactly what Wu Zi must be thinking.

“Hmm?”

Wu Zi’s gaze shifted to the magazine in Bai Yiyue’s hands. It was the latest issue of Goddess, a magazine she occasionally browsed herself, though she’d never known her young lady to be interested in it. Today, it seemed, things had changed.

As she looked at the beautiful young woman on the cover, Wu Zi squinted, recognizing her at last. This was the same friend Bai Yiyue always mentioned—Ling Ning, who had an elegant “wife-like” charm. No wonder she had found the girl familiar. She hadn’t expected Bai Yiyue’s close friend to be a model, though it all made sense now.

So this was Ling Ning.

Wu Zi was well aware of the name. After all, her young lady rarely went three sentences without mentioning her friend. She couldn’t understand what made Ling Ning so special that Bai Yiyue obsessed over her day and night. Logically, she should’ve been first… right?

Wait—no, she wasn’t first. As Bai Yiyue had said, they’d known each other since they were young, like childhood sweethearts. No matter how she thought about it, she had already lost this race.

“Um, Sister Zi, can I buy up every copy of this issue of Goddess magazine?” Bai Yiyue asked, still staring at the cover.

“Meow, meow, meow?!”

Wu Zi looked at her in disbelief. Ignoring the sheer logistics, why would she need so many copies of the same magazine? This wasn’t like collecting limited-edition cards.

“Fine~” Bai Yiyue sighed, realizing how unrealistic her plan was. After a moment’s thought, she continued, “Then, Sister Zi, could you buy me a hundred copies? No—one hundred and one copies. One for everyday reading, and one hundred to keep in storage!”

As for spreading the magazine around to others, she refused. Ling Ning was hers alone. What if she attracted new rivals?

Sighing in resignation, Wu Zi took out her phone and called Wang Jiaqi to handle the task.

After ending the call, Wu Zi looked at Bai Yiyue, now back on her bed, lost in her reverie while gazing at the magazine. Wu Zi bit her lip, then spoke up. “Yiyue, can I ask you something?”

“Go ahead~” Bai Yiyue replied, her eyes glued to Ling Ning’s image on the magazine cover.

“Why are you so attached to that girl Ling Ning?” Wu Zi finally asked. Whenever Ling Ning came up, Bai Yiyue’s expression softened in a way that was both tender and gentle.

Seeing her young lady like this made Wu Zi intensely jealous. Why couldn’t she be the one who made Bai Yiyue feel this way?

After a pause, Bai Yiyue responded with a brilliant, affectionate smile. “Because Ling Ning is… the best.”

That same gentle smile, that same tone, that same expression. Wu Zi forced a smile, said nothing, and left the room.

As she watched her manager leave, Bai Yiyue felt that Wu Zi had been acting strangely today, though she couldn’t put her finger on why.

After Wu Zi left, Bai Yiyue picked up her phone and glanced at her calendar.

“Less than a month until the college entrance exams, huh? I wish I could go see you right now, Ling Ning~”

After her last concert, Bai Yiyue had wanted to go to S City to visit Ling Ning. But with unfinished business and Ling Ning’s exams coming up, she worried about being a distraction.

So, she decided to wait until Ling Ning’s exams were over. Then, she’d take her mother and move to S City for a while. After all, work could be done anywhere, and her only reason for becoming a star in the first place was so Ling Ning could find her. Now that her goal was within reach, she was even considering retiring. But that was a decision for later.

“Oh well, I’ll just keep admiring my precious little Ling Ning for now~” Tossing her phone aside, she resumed admiring the magazine, thoroughly lost in Ling Ning’s image.
