Chapter 143 : Dominated by the RNG Overlord
That afternoon, as soon as school ended, Ling Ning followed the main group to a net cafe named 'Best Net Cafe.'
According to Shen Shi's introduction, this net cafe was popular among students for its high-quality computer setups, comfortable environment, and reasonable prices. Although it wasn't close to the school, many students preferred to make the trip here rather than visit a sketchy black-market net cafe nearby. After all, the experience here was on a completely different level.
The manager of the net cafe was a middle-aged man with one arm, but even with just one arm, he was an exceptionally charming man. With his chiseled face and weary eyes, it was easy to tell at a glance that he had a story.
Upon entering the net cafe, Ling Ning noticed several elementary and middle school students gaming away. Though the place was a legitimate business, it was clearly bending the rules—operating more like an unlicensed black-market net cafe. It seemed there were powerful connections behind it.
Mo Fashi selected a large private room, which conveniently had twelve computers.
"Mo Fashi, has your class run out of players? Why are you sending a girl in? Don't think we'll go easy on you just because you have a girl on your team~" the leader of the opposing class sneered as he saw Ling Ning take her seat.
Ling Ning looked pitifully at the boy. She really wanted to ask if he had any common sense. Didn't he realize there were a lot of girls here watching as well? With that one comment, he'd just managed to offend all the girls present. Serves him right to end up a loner.
"Lu Yisheng, stop spouting nonsense. If you end up getting slapped in the face, it's not gonna feel great," Shen Shi snapped, unable to stay silent after hearing Lu Yisheng mock his goddess.
"Cough, cough!" Ling Ning, who had been taking a sip of water, almost choked upon hearing the name Lu Yisheng. Lu Yisheng—"lu yi sheng," as in "jerking for life"—who gave him that name? It reminded her of a guy named Zhu Gusheng—"zhu gu sheng," meaning "destined to be forever alone." Perhaps those two were a match made in heaven.
The match didn't start immediately. Both teams played a quick warm-up game to practice their coordination.
When Bai Xuejia saw Ling Ning's account, he had an ominous feeling. The account level was low, and it hadn't even been through placement matches. It looked like it belonged to a complete novice.
Once the game started, Ling Ning played steadily—neither exceptionally good nor particularly flawed. She seemed to fit the "jack of all trades" role perfectly, which made Bai Xuejia let out a sigh of relief.
As Bai Xuejia observed Ling Ning, she was also assessing her teammates. Overall, the coordination among the "Pervy Trio" was quite good, but the other two members struggled a bit with their game sense, though their mechanical skills were passable.
Due to time constraints, they could only play one warm-up match before the official game began. This wasn't just any match; it was about personal pride. Losing meant wearing girls' clothes to school tomorrow, so everyone was completely focused.
The most relaxed person was undoubtedly Ling Ning. After all, she wore girls' clothes every day—losing wouldn't change anything for her. Besides, it wasn't certain who would come out on top.
The map was 'Fuyuki City,' a classic attack-defense map. Ling Ning's team was on defense, running a lineup of Genji, Hanzo, Reinhardt, Winston, Bastion, and Reaper for healing—a solid composition. This time, Ling Ning didn't pick her usual DPS Mercy but instead chose Tracer for some mid-range "hit or miss" action.
On the other side, the enemy lineup was more aggressive, with just one healer—Bastion—and a tank combo of Ana and Symmetra, plus Zenyatta, Widowmaker, and Lucio—a highly offensive setup.
When Lu Yisheng found out that Ling Ning had chosen Tracer, he gave a knowing smile.
Truth be told, Tracer was a hero that only highly skilled players could master. Otherwise, playing her was just gambling on luck. Of course, Lu Yisheng had heard stories of people getting dominated by an RNG-style Tracer, but how likely was it to meet someone like that?
The match started. Lu Yisheng confidently stepped out of the base, and then... nothing. He got eliminated right away.
After watching the kill cam, Lu Yisheng decided that Tracer's kill had just been lucky—happenstance.
Within ten seconds, Lu Yisheng's Lucio respawned at the base. Without hesitation, he used his speed boost to rush out, and then... it happened again.
In the kill cam, Tracer had shot an arrow randomly into an open area. Under normal circumstances, it would have been harmless, but he had dashed right into its path. This was truly a case of "the shot was good, but the catch was even better."
Lu Yisheng took a deep breath. There was no way he would believe that Tracer could keep up this kind of luck.
Yet...
Every time Lu Yisheng stepped out of the spawn room, he would get hit by an arrow seemingly shot out of nowhere. It didn't matter which exit he chose—it was always the same. Was that Tracer hacking or something?
Ling Ning silently eliminated Lucio once again just as he stepped out of the spawn room. She was beginning to realize that she might actually be pretty good at playing luck-based heroes. In her past life, her Hanzo had been terrible—missing nine out of ten shots, always getting flamed by teammates. But now, after reincarnating, she found herself landing nine out of ten shots. Even when firing into empty spaces, someone always ended up running into it. She honestly didn't know what to make of it.
The match ended with the neighboring class getting utterly demolished under Ling Ning's lucky arrow barrage. They couldn't even capture the first point. The worst off was Lu Yisheng, who died countless times at the spawn door. Even his teammates couldn't bear to watch anymore—it was just too tragic.
"Ahahaha~ Lu Yisheng, Lu Yisheng, I can't wait to see you in a dress tomorrow," Mo Fashi said excitedly.
"I, Lu Yisheng, always keep my word."
Ling Ning checked the time on her phone and turned to Shen Shi, who was sitting beside her. "Now that the match is over, I'm heading home."
"Huh!? Aren't you gonna stay a bit longer to play?"
"No, my sister's waiting for me to cook dinner." Ling Ning smiled softly and stood up to leave the net cafe.
Bai Xuejia watched Shen Shi's dejected expression, subconsciously clenching his fists. Was he really still no match for that person? No! He would never give up—no matter what it took, he would make Shen Shi come back to him.
At this moment, Shen Shi didn't notice Bai Xuejia's odd demeanor. He just silently watched Ling Ning's departing figure.
