Beast Taming: My System is Bugged

Chapter 190 - 188: A New Direction for Combat Techniques

The night was deep and still.

Secretary Zhong was hunched over his desk, poring over the Daoist Skill Books he had taken from his Beast Taming Space.

After a full day of testing, he had come to see even more possibilities in Cyan Treasure.

In the realm of Daoist Skills, Gu Ming had already developed the Little Cyan Snake to an unprecedented height.

It wouldn’t be an overstatement to call him the world’s foremost Little Cyan Snake Beastmaster.

Especially the unique Life Energy he had sensed that morning. Even someone with his background at a top 500 national pharmaceutical company couldn’t make sense of it, which just went to show how novel it truly was.

Gu Ming had even asked him to help devise a plan for how to use this Power.

That was asking a lot of him.

He was supposed to be the one teaching Cyan Treasure the skills of the Flood Dragon Race, but now the situation had evolved into him and Gu Ming figuring things out as they went. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

However, just because he’d never seen anything like it didn’t mean he didn’t know where to start.

After all, he had specialized in Grass Element Pet Beasts for many years. After collecting a full day of data and mulling it over for several hours, he had a few ideas.

At the same time, he picked up his phone and called Teacher Zhang Yunpeng.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, the two quickly got down to business, discussing how to train Cyan Treasure.

"I found some information. The unique energy Cyan Treasure cultivated isn’t unheard of; similar energies can be found in High-star Pet Beasts."

"If this unique Life Energy is infused into the soil, it should be able to grow incredibly resilient plants."

"I also looked at the venom in its fangs. The formulation is quite ingenious. Was that your design?"

As a Grass Element Beastmaster, Secretary Zhong personally preferred using Grass Element poisons and hadn’t considered that the venom used by Cyan Treasure would be of the Light Element.

"No, it’s a common formula," Teacher Zhang said, shaking his head. "Why? Do you have an idea?"

"That Light Element venom is perfect for Cyan Treasure. Light Element snake venom is a union of opposites: Life Power and corrosive power."

"We should use that power... hmm, that ’Origin’ energy, as they call it, and infuse it into the soil."

Teacher Zhang Yunpeng understood. This meant returning to the Grass Element’s specialty: plant growth!

"Are you suggesting it could generate plants with unique Attributes?"

"Precisely."

"You saw it yourself today. Once Cyan Treasure unleashes that power, it’s no longer just a simple Flood Dragon Skill."

"The very grass and trees on the field moved because of it. It’s just that Cyan Treasure is still only at the Entry Level and hasn’t grasped how to truly use this Power."

"There’s also a great deal of complexity to the Flood Dragon Tail Swing. The Origin energy acts as an additional power source for Cyan Treasure, compensating for the Little Cyan Snake’s weak burst power and allowing it to deal the damage of a Flood Dragon Pet."

"The move is so powerful precisely because of this power augmentation!"

"I’d be willing to call it a new direction for the development of Combat Element Skills."

The technical depth of the Flood Dragon Tail Swing alone was enough to warrant a research paper—one that could at least be published in a Four-star journal.

If Gu Ming were to publish it, it would easily get into a Four-star journal. With a recommendation from a major figure in the field, it wouldn’t be impossible to get it into a Five-star one.

As Teacher Zhong spoke, for a fleeting moment, he wanted to be listed as a co-author on such a paper to add a shining achievement to his own resume.

However, the thought was gone as quickly as it came.

He hadn’t provided any guidance on the innovative mechanics of the technique. What he had taught before was merely the old, established knowledge about Flood Dragon Tail Swing. His real contribution to the innovation was essentially zero.

Besides, Teacher Zhang would never let him get away with something like that.

And so, he suppressed the thought that had flashed through his mind.

On his end, Teacher Zhang was also poring over numerous texts on High-star Pet Beasts, researching the Origin Power that Secretary Zhong had mentioned.

And what Star Level was that? It started at Six-star!

It only became relatively common at the Seven- and Eight-star Levels.

The reason the two of them had waited until evening to hold a video conference and take stock was because the new form of energy Cyan Treasure had developed through its Cultivation was so shocking it completely upended their conventional wisdom.

That Power was so pure, so clean, far exceeding the realm of what a One-star Pet Beast could possibly cultivate.

The peak output of the Origin Power far surpassed the upper limits of a One-star Magical Power Inner Core.

What’s more, Cyan Treasure even had something as novel as a Foundation Establishment Platform.

There wasn’t a single thing about it that wasn’t novel.

At this point, it was safe to say that Cyan Treasure’s comprehensive combat ability had reached the level of a Pet Beast with Four- to Five-star Level potential during its One-star stage.

If this was its starting line, further developing Cyan Treasure’s use of this Power could allow it to truly shine in the Combat Element field.

And Gu Ming was already planning to specialize in both the Combat and Cultivation Elements.

Originally, Teacher Zhang had been worried about this, fearing the pressure of specializing in both would be too great and lead to a situation where he became a jack of all trades, master of none.

But now, it seemed Cyan Treasure had great promise in the Combat Element, with a high probability of excelling.

As for the Cultivation Element, the catalytic ability of its Plant Life Light Wave was in a league of its own. As long as Gu Ming’s theoretical knowledge was solid and he didn’t make mistakes with his pairings, his scores wouldn’t be low.

The two continued to pore over the texts, searching for ways to use such a high-end energy in order to refine the subsequent training plan.

And so the night passed.

The next morning, Gu Ming brought Cyan Treasure to school to train.

Before he even entered the training room, he ran into Teacher Zhong and Teacher Zhang in the hallway.

They had been waiting for him, and they immediately produced a new training schedule, along with some newly purchased Daoist Skill Books.

"We’ve looked into it. That should be Origin Power. It’s an energy that normally only High-star Level Pet Beasts can awaken to, yet it has appeared in Cyan Treasure. It’s extraordinary."

"Cyan Treasure now possesses the genuine potential to fight opponents above its level. But right now, that’s all it is—potential. As you saw yesterday, aside from the Flood Dragon Tail Swing, it can’t integrate that power into your Laser technique or the Storm Ball."

"Because of that, we need to change the goal of your special training."

"Flood Dragon Tail Swing will no longer be the primary Combat Skill you learn; it will be more of a side project."

"From now on, we will focus entirely on developing the Origin Power, allowing it to manifest in more forms."

’Forms?’ Gu Ming committed the word to memory and nodded.

This shift in focus was something Gu Ming had anticipated. The Wood Escape Flood Dragon Power was itself one of the Keystones in the Ultimate Skill’s system.

It was an entire system, and only by uniting all its components could one form the Mastery of Wood Escape.

Gu Ming looked over the training schedule again, letting out a small "Huh?" It was a little different from what he’d imagined.

He discovered that the Earth Shifting Technique had been elevated to a crucial, core part of the training, taking up a full two periods each day.

That was two whole periods of training!

Previously, the Earth Shifting Technique had just been one of Cyan Treasure’s Basic Skills, used specifically to transport Spiritual Qi, Mana, and the Life Energy generated by its Light Grass Spiritual Root.

Gu Ming and Cyan Treasure’s understanding of the Earth Shifting Technique had been that simple; they never thought it was particularly important.

But under Teacher Zhong’s new plan, it had become an absolutely core Cultivation Technique, its central importance now on par with the Cyan Treasure Breathing Technique.

"Is this... correct?"
