Chapter 162 162: The Thing in the Eye of the Deep
Einstein studied the data in her hands while simultaneously comparing it to the current armor. "Looking at this, wanting to restore it won't be an easy task."
"If we had Soulium, it would recover faster, right?" Tesla leaned over and glanced at the data. However, the lengthy recovery time was something they should have anticipated long ago.
Right now, this armor was essentially just an empty shell. Its most important components were basically all destroyed. The fact that it could even be repaired at all was a testament to the miraculous properties of Soulium.
"Just dismantle Otto," Irene pointed at Otto's body. "From what I know, this guy's body has Soulium in it to some extent. Just extract it and install it."
As for the Soulium that Irene had initially extracted from Otto's body, she had a use for it. Irene had always felt that she lacked a weapon, but she didn't have much hands-on crafting experience herself.
Although she could rely on Mirror Sync to grab everyone's weapons to use for a bit, to be honest, after using them for the past few days... well, it wasn't very fun.
She had mastered everyone's combat styles and could proficiently wield all their weapons, but ultimately, it was still somewhat inconvenient. It was fine for casual use.
But once a battle grew intense and her mind overheated, it was truly difficult to remember that she even had such a skill. Although she had [Irene], so she wouldn't completely devolve into wildly swinging her fists.
From time to time, she could also instinctively use her skills to conjure other weapons and smash them over her opponents' heads. For example, her current frequent tactic of manifesting Judah, maximizing its Binding capabilities, and—regardless of its hardness or durability—swinging it straight down at their heads.
After throwing it, she would seal whatever needed sealing. Things like Binding · Anchor, Binding · Forbid—she would blast them with everything she had. Anything that could withstand this strike was, at the very least, a Judgment-class Honkai Beast.
However, Irene felt that she still needed a main weapon—preferably one that could suit her status as the Herrscher of Death while also synergizing with the abilities of others.
Well, but how exactly was she supposed to put that together? She had no clue herself, and she didn't have a weapon-forging master residing in her mind either. Therefore, her only option was to return to the Elysian Realm and look for Vill-V.
As long as the omnipotent Vill-V took action, everything would turn out fine.
As for whether she could get Vill-V to help, she wasn't worried about that. For one, Vill-V inherently loved taking on the challenges she presented and would definitely find a way.
For another, given her current relationship with everyone there, merely asking for help in designing and crafting a weapon—especially when she brought some of her own materials—wouldn't result in a rejection.
"That makes sense," Tesla nodded. "Then we'll have to trouble Irene with this matter."
She had to admit, the Herrscher of Corruption was truly incredibly useful. When it came to electronic warfare, bringing Corruption along left absolutely nothing to be desired. Their coordination on the Schicksal floating island had made Tesla realize this point profoundly.
Of course, they could dismantle that Soulium themselves; it wasn't like they didn't know how. But since there was a much more convenient method, why not let the more convenient person handle it?
Irene placed her hand on the surface of Otto's body. Utilizing the Corruption virus that Little Corruption had previously left inside it, she extracted all the Soulium from within.
However, perhaps because this body had been designed with combat utility in mind, the amount of Soulium used was unexpectedly large. She looked at the chunk of Soulium in her hand, which was almost the size of a soccer ball.
She had to wonder just how much Soulium Otto had dug up from all over the world. Truly, every single one of his bodies contained Soulium. Although, it was also possible that he had already mastered the method for manufacturing Soulium.
"Thanks." Tesla put on a mechanical power arm and reached out to take the clump of Soulium. "Alright, we won't need your help for the rest. Irene, you go get some rest. You must be pretty exhausted from the past couple of days, right?"
"I wouldn't exactly call it exhausted." Irene shook her head. Even if she was tired, she could use Active Polarization to stimulate her body's vitality.
As for the physical weakness caused by Active Polarization, the Authority of the Herrscher of Death could help her recover rapidly. Therefore, she could basically be considered a perpetual motion machine.
Energy issues were left to the Herrscher Core to handle, while any remaining problems could be resolved by Active Polarization and the Authority of the Herrscher of Death.
"Even so, I still suggest Miss Irene go take a rest first," Einstein pushed up her glasses. "Just treat it as giving your brain a moment to relax."
"Alright, I'll listen to the Doctor." Seeing that both of them were trying to persuade her, Irene could only feign a nod. Just as she was about to head out, a screen of light suddenly flashed in front of Einstein and Tesla.
Irene cast a curious glance over, and at a single glance, she saw four large words: Eye of the Deep, along with an anomaly indicator next to it.
"What's wrong?" Irene immediately joined them to take a look. There weren't many people who could emerge from the Sea of Quanta, represented by the Eye of the Deep, at this time. Or rather, there weren't many people who could trigger an anomaly in that vicinity.
"A massive amount of Honkai energy is spewing out from the Eye of the Deep, accompanied by a large quantity of quantum energy," Einstein rapidly analyzed the data before her.
"Something is..."
"...Could it be that he's back?" Irene stared at the screen. Although phrased as a question, she was already certain in her heart. It was Kevin preparing to return.
The massive eruption of Honkai energy was likely Kevin attacking the barrier created by Welt. As for the quantum energy, it was probably just being swept up and flushed out during the process.
"It's really not just that; someone is coming out." Einstein looked at the screen, where a silhouette seemed to be forcefully ejected from the Eye of the Deep.
Moreover, the interference caused by the massive amounts of quantum energy and Honkai energy was exceptionally severe. Einstein and Tesla could only barely make out that the person being blasted out appeared to have blue hair.
They couldn't discern any further details. But unlike Einstein and Tesla, Irene could recognize who it was. That was Griseo—or rather, a grown-up Griseo.
"Dr. Einstein, Dr. Tesla, I have a proposal. We should immediately divert our course to the Eye of the Deep," Irene looked toward the two scientists.
"I have a rough idea of what's happening over there."
"Going there is certainly not an issue," Einstein frowned, then nodded. They had originally only planned to return to a historical base to repair the Hyperion and prepare for Otto's inevitable retaliation.
Diverting to the Sea of Quanta wouldn't make too much of a difference. It was just that Einstein felt somewhat puzzled.
"Irene, from the looks of it, you seem to know what's going to happen. Do you recognize the figure that was just thrown out?"
"You could say I know them." Irene nodded and prepared to head out. "I'm going to head over there first to handle the situation. It can't be delayed. You guys follow along when you can."
"Wait, Irene, aren't you going to discuss this with Theresa and the others?" Tesla called out to stop Irene. "Also, what exactly happened over there? Does it have anything to do with Welt?"
"That person poses no mortal threat to Welt." Irene shook her head. How could Kevin possibly want to kill someone like Welt, a Herrscher fighting for humanity?
Or rather, the reason Welt was able to converse with Kevin previously, and even learn what plan Kevin intended to execute, was precisely because he was a Herrscher fighting for humanity.
That was why Kevin was trying to figure out a way to pull him into World Serpent and toss him into the Realm to meet Elysia.
But then again, what could one say about Old Yang? He had been strong, he had been weak. He had died, and he had lived. He had done his fair share of 'sit-ups' from the grave. He had surpassed limits, but he had never once backed down.
After learning the rough outline of Kevin's intended plan, there was absolutely no way Welt would let Kevin leave so easily.
Even if it was said there would be a one-year grace period where Kevin wouldn't attempt to leave, that didn't mean Welt would just let Kevin go after a year had passed.
"But given Welt's personality... while that person might not pose a mortal threat to him, it's hard to say what he might do to himself." Irene continued speaking as she walked toward the door. "So, I need to get ready to break up a fight."
"Are you very familiar with him?"
"I am very familiar with him, and he knows about me. Moreover, there are even more people in my head who are familiar with him." Irene simply pointed to her head before disappearing behind the laboratory door.
She left Einstein and Tesla staring at each other in bewilderment. Tesla scratched her head and also started heading out. With all this happening, she had lost all mood to research the armor.
Welt was in trouble; they had to hurry over. Einstein watched the hastily departing Tesla, let out a sigh, and unhurriedly pulled out her communication terminal. At the same time, she slowly drawled, "Running around looking for people is such a hassle. Wouldn't a phone call suffice?"
"Miss Rin, I assume you can hear me?"
"I can hear you loud and clear. The destination is already prepped for a change." As the one currently substituting as the main control terminal—effectively becoming the team's central operator—Rin had naturally overheard the conversation between Irene and the others.
With her clever little mind, she instantly figured it out: Uncle Kevin was returning, and he had even brought Sister Griseo back with him.
What a pity. If she didn't currently have to dedicate her focus to piloting the Hyperion, she would want to return to the Realm right this instant to tell her Elder Sister and the others about this.
She was sure her Elder Sister and the others would be absolutely thrilled.
"Then we'll have to trouble you, Miss Rin." After confirming that she was ready to change their destination, Einstein used her communication terminal to contact Himeko and the others.
Up in the sky, Irene had already shifted into Wendy's appearance. She used the Authority of Wind to accelerate her speed. After all, she knew exactly where the Eye of the Deep was located.
The last time she escorted Seele back to the Proper World, hadn't she emerged right beside the Eye of the Deep? She had found her own way back then, so she certainly didn't need anyone to guide her there now.
However, although Irene seemed to be rushing in a panic, she wasn't actually that anxious. While Welt was known to stubbornly butt heads with impossible odds, he wouldn't go so far as to get himself killed doing so.
The most likely outcome was that after a brief clash between the two, Kevin would pull Welt out of the Sea of Quanta with overwhelming superiority, or Welt would use a massive number of Bubble Universes to successfully keep Kevin trapped inside the Sea of Quanta.
Which outcome it would be depended entirely on whether Kevin had eaten his fill while searching for Griseo in the Sea of Quanta during this time, and whether he would resort to lethal force.
Oh, right, there was one more point. If she calculated the time, it hadn't actually been a full year yet.
If Kevin still remembered that agreement, he probably wouldn't insist on leaving right away and getting into a massive brawl with Welt.
After all, he had already sent Griseo out. As for her current trip out there, Irene was more inclined to escort Griseo back to the Elysian Realm.
As for why she was sending her to the Realm instead of World Serpent, it was because Griseo would absolutely be 100% against the things World Serpent intended to do.
Unless absolutely necessary, there probably wouldn't be a single Flame-Chaser who would 100% agree with executing Project Stigma—not even Kevin himself.
Even though they understood it was necessary, they still felt that way. In terms of action, they supported Kevin; but psychologically, they could only express their regrets.
As for Kevin himself, he didn't actually want to do it either. It was merely because it was the final plan, the necessary fail-safe—even if it was the worst possible plan.
So, even though he had psychological resistance toward it, Kevin would still carry it out. Therefore, after picking up Griseo, Irene definitely wouldn't send her to World Serpent.
Although it would eventually end unpleasantly, to the point where she might even have to fight her former uncle, the later that day arrived—or rather, the more time she had to prepare—the better, wouldn't you agree?
It was also to give Kevin a bit more time to mentally prepare himself. He had definitely spent all these years constantly making psychological preparations, but preparing oneself was one thing; truly facing it was entirely another.
[Speaking of which, Irene, do you want to use the photo album to send a message to everyone in the Realm, telling them that Griseo is back?] Little Corruption's voice echoed in Irene's mind.
[I imagine everyone has been waiting for this good news for a very long time.]
[Hmm, no need.] Irene surprisingly shook her head.[Let's find Griseo first before we make the call. It's precisely because they've waited for such a long time that they need a little extra surprise.]
[That makes sense.]
Eye of the Deep
Griseo sat on the cold floor in a w-sitting position, shaking her head dizzily. The sensation of being violently ejected by the Eye of the Deep wasn't very pleasant.
How should she put it? It felt like tumbling back and forth inside a washing machine, but countless times worse. On top of that, she had been essentially thrown out by Uncle Kevin amidst the chaos.
Therefore, even as a MANTIS, she still felt somewhat disoriented and hadn't quite regained her bearings yet.
After resting for a moment, Griseo looked up at the Eye of the Deep in front of her, which was still erupting with Honkai energy. A trace of worry flashed in her eyes.
"Why did Uncle Kevin start fighting with him?" Griseo was still a bit confused. Although she had sensed that the bespectacled older man was a Herrscher.
At first, she had also drawn her weapon and was preparing to go on alert. But Uncle Kevin, standing beside her, hadn't struck first. Instead, he had been somewhat amicably conversing with that Herrscher, discussing sending her out.
And after a brief moment of stress, Griseo, upon observing the colors on Welt's body, had also discovered that the other party seemed to be a good person.
Originally, it seemed the matter would end there. Welt had even made way, saying he could send Griseo back. But Uncle Kevin seemed to want to hitch a ride at that moment and follow her back together.
Then, that uncle named Welt disagreed, and the two of them started fighting inside. In the process, she was basically flushed out by the turbulent currents.
"What in the world is going on?"
