Chapter 154 -: 153 The last trial.
The gate swung open all the way.
A voice rang out right after, sounding young and a bit silly, like a cheeky teenage boy trying to act important.
Nothing like the deep, bossy voice of the Lone King they had heard on the other floors.
As the door finished opening, the inside of the room came into view.
Julius had zero clues from the book about what waited here, so excitement bubbled up inside him.
But the second the full scene hit them, both Julius and Rosalina stood there with their mouths hanging open.
This was nothing like they expected.
The earlier floors had been huge, each with its own wild world.
The first was a glowing purple forest full of time-rewinding purple wolves. The second was a massive ocean where water-path whales swam.
The eighth floor burst with green life, and the tenth felt dark and endless. But the eleventh?
Totally different. It was just a small room, more like someone’s messy library mixed with an alchemy lab.
It was only a little bigger than those waiting rooms they had seen before.
Books and strange materials covered every inch. Right in the middle sat a simple table loaded with stuff.
"Is this really the eleventh floor...?" Rosalina muttered, completely stunned.
"Correct," the same voice echoed again, now sounding much closer.
Julius and Rosalina jumped at the sudden reply and looked down.
There stood a boy who looked about ten years old.
He had a full head of auburn hair and bright blue eyes.
His face was small, his body tiny, and the oversized clothes hanging off him made him look ridiculously cute.
"Who are you?" Julius asked, his brows pulling together in a deep frown.
He had no info about this floor, so his guard shot straight up.
Too many things had already changed in this world. Better safe than sorry.
The boy gave a small, polite bow like he was greeting royalty.
"I am the memory remnant of the Lone King, and the guide for the eleventh floor."
His voice came out with a little squeak at the end, which somehow made him even cuter.
"How cute..." Rosalina smiled, her eyes softening. She reached out to pat the boy’s head.
The boy instantly stepped back, dodging her hand.
"Please refrain from touching me," he said, moving sideways. "I may not look like it, but I am very old."
Rosalina’s hand hung in the air for a second before she pulled it back.
She felt a bit awkward, but the boy’s cuteness still calmed her down.
She turned to Julius with a grin. "Do you think ours would be as cute as him?"
"How would I know?" Julius shrugged, then stepped closer to the boy.
"So, what’s the trial for the eleventh floor?" He didn’t want to waste any time.
The longer they stayed, the higher the chance the dean would show up. Grab the inheritance and get out, that was the plan.
The invincible path was the only reason he had risked coming in here at all. ’Who knows,’ he thought with a smirk, ’if I get the invincible path, I might finally be able to kill that fucker.’
The whole situation felt like a bad joke. After all the deadly trials and giant monsters, the final floor turned out to be a cozy little study run by a sassy kid in baggy clothes. Julius almost wanted to laugh. Almost.
But he didn’t laugh. Instead, Julius took one step forward and entered the room.
"Earlier you said you are the memory remnant of the Lone King. Is that correct?"
He asked, eyes scanning every corner of the small space. Rosalina followed right behind him.
The moment both of them stepped inside, the big door let out a soft creak and closed shut.
Julius stared at it for a second, thoughts racing, when the small Lone King spoke up again.
"Indeed," the boy said in a calm voice. He took a slow step toward the table in the center.
Julius and Rosalina followed, listening closely. "As you must know, inside our heads there is something called a memory cord."
He explained it steadily while walking.
"Every memory we ever had is stored there, and each part holds a different phase. This body of mine contains all the information about the enlightenment and insights I gained on the time path and..."
He stopped right in front of the table. His voice dropped to a whisper. "...the invincible path!"
He said it with a serious face.
Julius and Rosalina stared at him for a moment, then gave a short nod.
"If I may," Julius spoke, his tone turning very respectful, "can I ask, Senior, if the remains of the invincible path are from the four stationary continents or not?"
Rosalina noticed his respectful shift and quickly copied it.
"Yes, Senior. Is the inheritance from the four stationary continents?" she asked the same question. This mattered a lot to both of them.
In the novel TST, Crypian had found the invincible path inside the 101 Treasure Tower on the four stationary continents.
That was also where the first mention of the invincible oath appeared. But now everything felt off.
The Lone King’s inheritance had shown up with the invincible path too, completely outside the book’s plot.
Julius felt suspicious. Could his own actions have caused this change? It was possible.
Neither he nor Rosalina had entered the tower in their last life, and they weren’t even at the academy back then.
This time they were here, so maybe something had shifted without them realizing.
If the Lone King’s invincible path info really came from the four stationary continents, it would clear up whether Crypian had secretly learned about it from this place first.
The small Lone King fell deep into thought, like he was arguing with himself over something important.
Julius and Rosalina kept their faces blank, showing neither excitement nor boredom. They just waited.
After a moment, the boy nodded. "Yes, the remains of the invincible path I hold are from the four stationary continents," he said.
"Then may we know exactly where you found them?" Rosalina asked, keeping her voice lightly interested.
Inside, both she and Julius had already guessed the answer, but they wanted to hear it straight from him for full confirmation.
The Lone King shook his head. "I cannot tell you that. As per the agreement with ’that’ person, I am unable to reveal anything further."
Both Julius and Rosalina frowned at the same time. ’That person?’ they wondered together.
Julius racked his brain, digging through every detail from the book.
Was there some hidden character in charge of the Treasure Tower? No answer came.
’Looks like this mystery won’t be solved until I get there myself,’ he thought.
He looked back at the boy. No point asking twice. Better move on. "So, what’s the trial?" he asked.
The Lone King looked up and shook his head.
"There is no trial. Once you passed the floors before this, you already proved you are worthy. However, there is something you must do to claim the inheritance."
Julius and Rosalina waited in silence.
After a short pause, the boy continued, "There is only one way to get the inheritance... and that is to refine me."
He took a step forward and pointed at the shelves full of books and materials. "All the necessary items are here."
"In a way it’s a trial, but at the same time it isn’t," he added.
Then he ducked down, reached out, and pulled something into his small hand.
A bright blue fire flickered to life above his palm.
It glowed with vivid color and gave off heat stronger than normal flames.
Julius could feel the warmth brushing against his skin even from a distance.
"Treasure refining fire..." Julius muttered softly, staring at the dancing blue flames.
"So the trial for this final floor is simply to refine me into a treasure."
