Ch. 19
As Luo Yi spoke, Su Xiao’s eyebrows twitched slightly. She tried her best to control herself so that her intense emotional reaction would not show.
There was actually a human world! That meant humans existed in this world as well!
Su Xiao’s excitement was obvious. Although she had transmigrated and been reborn, as an individual within a social species, she still longed for the old days, drinking soda and living a comfortable life.
Where there were people, there would inevitably be society. Even if there might not be soda, it was still far better than living like a wild beast, eating raw flesh and drinking blood.
At that moment, Su Xiao suddenly had a goal: to visit the human society of this world.
Of course, she was not foolish. Going there under her current circumstances would be far too risky.
At the very least, I must train my transformation ability until it’s flawless. Only then can I ensure I won’t accidentally expose myself in human society!
Su Xiao believed she had managed to fool these demonic beasts and Refined Spirit largely because they probably had little experience seeing humans. Although she tried hard to control her illusory body, careful observation would still reveal stiffness and sluggishness in several places.
To conceal this flaw, she deliberately slowed her movements, creating the impression of a calm and mysterious expert.
My control over the illusion still isn’t good enough. I need to practice it constantly, she reminded herself while continuing to listen to Luo Yi’s explanation.
“At that time, Lord Zhu Lie expelled all demonic beasts from his territory and sealed it off. That night at midnight, I sensed a surge of extremely strong yin energy rising from within the Mountain Lord’s domain,” Luo Yi said as it recalled the events. “The next day, Lord Zhu Lie summoned us. He said that if one day he was gone, we should search for his Mountain Seal. Whoever obtained the seal would become the next mountain lord and rule Mount Qi.”
Luo Yi flicked its forked tongue as it revealed these secrets unknown to most demons. The Dread Wolf and the Armored Crocodile felt their eyelids twitch. So the Mountain Lord had already sensed something half a month ago!
“Then, seven days ago, everyone sensed that Lord Zhu Lie’s aura had disappeared. However, no one acted rashly. By that time, Lord Zhu Lie had already become extremely irritable. If anyone had entered his territory without permission and he hadn’t actually disappeared, he might have killed them on the spot.”
As Luo Yi continued, the general course of the Mountain Lord of Qi Zhu Lie’s disappearance gradually became clear.
“Seven days passed, and everyone confirmed that Lord Zhu Lie had truly disappeared. Coincidentally, around that time, that half-demon who had been wandering through the nearby mountains suddenly entered Mount Qi. That was what prompted everyone to come here.”
Luo Yi finished explaining the entire sequence of events, emphasizing that their intrusion into the Mountain Lord’s territory had its reasons.
The Dread Wolf only knew that the mountain lord who ruled Mount Qi had vanished. It knew little about the detailed circumstances before and after. However, it was not stupid. It certainly would not admit that they had risked entering the territory because they coveted the many spirit herbs growing there.
“Demon Envoy, Lord Luo Yi is correct. That tiger half-demon is extremely powerful. Lord Luo Yi only led us here in order to protect the Mountain Lord’s territory.”
The Dread Wolf shamelessly lied through its teeth. Luo Yi was momentarily stunned by this, thinking, When did I ever bring you two useless burdens here? Why don’t I remember that?
Meanwhile, the Armored Crocodile, who had been staring blankly, was suddenly swept by the Dread Wolf’s black tail. Fortunately, it was not completely stupid. Realizing the hint, it hurriedly added, “That’s right! That’s right!”
Su Xiao’s real body twitched slightly at the corner of her mouth. These two were such actors—did they think she was blind? Just a moment ago they had looked as if they had seen a ghost when they saw the green snake. The wolf had even tried to flee for its life. Yet in the blink of an eye, they had switched roles entirely.
Su Xiao glanced at the Dread Wolf. It was clearly a massive and terrifying demonic beast, yet somehow she always felt that its wolfish face carried a hint of sly vulgarity.
Still, she did not expose them and simply allowed their self-invented story to stand.
“You three are quite loyal. I had thought you came here out of greed for the spirit flowers and rare herbs within the Mountain Lord’s territory.”
Su Xiao said this casually, but to the three beasts it sounded like thunder. Like thieves caught red-handed.
The Dread Wolf in particular felt its heart turn cold after Su Xiao’s earlier glance.
Capturing the half-demon might increase one’s reputation in Mount Qi, but how could that compare with spirit herbs that could immediately strengthen one’s power? Most demonic beasts and Refined Spirits who entered the Mountain Lord’s territory had exactly this goal. Only those with special motives would truly go after the half-demon.
The Dire Wolf and the Armored Crocodile had set their sights on the Purple Heart Grass.
Purple Heart Grass could regulate the chaotic spiritual power within a demonic beast’s body, harmonizing conflicting energies and making breakthroughs easier. It could also calm the energy conflicts within Refined Spirits, though the effect was somewhat weaker.
Because of its unique effect, once a wild Purple Heart Grass was discovered, powerful demonic beasts or Refined Spirits would occupy and guard it until it matured before devouring it.
The Dread Wolf felt that for mid-level demonic beasts like itself and the Armored Crocodile, finding a nearly mature Purple Heart Grass within the Mountain Lord’s territory had been incredibly fortunate. Yet first the Killer Bee King had discovered it and tried to seize it by force. Then Luo Yi the green snake had planned to reap the benefits afterward. And finally, a demon envoy had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Thinking of all this, the Dread Wolf felt like crying.
Perhaps it was coincidence, but just as the Dread Wolf’s emotions were surging, a faint fragrance drifted through the air from not far away near Luo Yi.
The Purple Heart Grass had matured.
