Chapter 9 : Silver Grass
Soon after Bai Yiyi left, Su Xiao noticed a shadow sweep across the ground. Looking up, he saw a strange bird-like creature in the distant sky, gradually disappearing beyond the horizon.
“Is that a demonic beast or a Refined Spirit? It’s too far away… Miss System didn’t give any response,” he muttered to himself.
By now, the fragrant scent in the air had almost completely faded. Everything that had happened earlier felt so unbelievable to him, like a dream, leaving Su Xiao in a daze.
Maybe when I wake up, I’ll still be lying in my comfy otaku bed back home.
He wasn’t entirely sure.
Then his gaze drifted forward.
His eyelids suddenly twitched violently.
The Silver Grass, now missing its fruit, was still there.
【Silver Grass: High-grade spirit herb. Consuming it increases spiritual power and carries an extremely small chance of awakening bloodline power.】
A moment later, Su Xiao looked at the silver plant in his paw. Its leaves were lush and vibrant, glistening with vitality.
“Do I really have to eat this?”
He hesitated. As someone who had always eaten cooked food as a human, the idea of chewing raw wild grass made him uncomfortable. But more importantly, he hated bitter things. The one thing he dreaded most in life was drinking traditional herbal medicine. Even though everyone said bitter medicine was good for the body, if he had the choice between Western medicine and herbal medicine, he would always choose the former. It wasn’t that he disrespected traditional medicine. He was just afraid of bitter tastes.
Looking at the small silver plant in his paw, Su Xiao fell into a fierce internal struggle. If other demonic beasts, or even cultivators, could see this scene, they would probably curse at him loudly, “That’s a high-grade spirit herb, not a cabbage! Why are you hesitating like an idiot?!”
“Forget it. One point of Spiritual Power costs ten Luck points… Eating this is basically the same as gaining Luck.”
Finally convincing himself, Su Xiao frowned and slowly put the Silver Grass into his mouth.
The moment he began chewing, a refreshing sweetness burst across his tongue.
His eyes gradually widened. “It’s sweet!”
Before long, the entire Silver Grass disappeared into his mouth. His fox eyes narrowed in bliss as he savored the taste. His white ears twitched repeatedly, and his tail wagged uncontrollably, completely revealing how much he enjoyed it.
“So good!”
Su Xiao licked his lips, looking reluctant for it to end. Unfortunately, there had only been one stalk.
“Maybe the Silver Fruit would taste even better…”
At this moment, Su Xiao felt strangely sluggish. His limbs felt loose and heavy, and he had trouble summoning strength. Warm currents began spreading throughout his body, making him feel slightly overheated.
Suddenly, a look of alarm flashed across his eyes.
“Is this… the medicinal effect? It’s working this fast?!”
In just a short moment, his body temperature kept rising. The warmth turned into oppressive heat, and faint pain began spreading inside his body.
No wonder Bai Yiyi didn’t eat the Silver Fruit on the spot. This medicine is intense.
If the Silver Grass alone had such powerful effects, then the Silver Fruit, which was its condensed essence, must be even stronger. If she had eaten the fruit unprepared, the violent medicinal power might have torn her body apart.
Su Xiao suddenly felt he had acted a bit too recklessly. At that moment, the medicinal energy inside him surged even more violently.
“I need to find somewhere to hide!”
Bai Yiyi had warned him that the mountain’s lord had disappeared, and other Refined Spirits might gather here. Right now, his body had barely any strength left. If he encountered even an ordinary demonic beast in this condition, he might become its next meal.
Forcing his body to move before the medicine fully took over, Su Xiao staggered toward a massive boulder.
His consciousness began to blur.
I can’t fall asleep yet… just a little longer…
The drowsiness grew stronger and stronger. His eyes grew unfocused, but a flash of determination crossed them.
Blood dripped from the corner of his fox mouth. He had bitten himself. The sharp pain forced a bit of clarity back into his mind.
Suppressing the overwhelming urge to sleep, Su Xiao found a small hollow beneath the left side of the boulder. The spot was extremely well hidden. With his small fox body tucked inside, anyone passing by from a distance wouldn’t notice anything unusual unless they inspected the rock closely.
Su Xiao casually dragged some weeds over the entrance to block it.
Soon after, the crushing wave of sleep returned. This time, he stopped resisting. His eyes slowly closed.
“All I can do now is pray… I just hope that when I wake up… I won’t already be someone else’s dinner.”
His voice grew softer and softer. The small fox gradually fell into deep sleep. And within that sleep, transformation began. The medicinal power of the Silver Grass continuously strengthened Su Xiao’s body.
Meanwhile, at the edge of the distant forest, one demonic beast after another began to gather.
