Chapter 2622 - 2630: Say It Again
Whenever she got sick, whoever took her out would be in trouble, as they would face a scolding from Old Master Black and auntie. Sometimes when her fever wouldn’t go away for several days, even Grandpa Sampton and Granny Sampton would get anxious and start scolding.
Jane Sampson thought she really was quite a troublemaker when she was young. However, Peter Gingery and the others inside the great courtyard were truly kind to her. Every time they got scolded because of her illness, none of them held it against her.
When she was sick and couldn’t leave the house, they would stay in the house with her, entertain her, and make her happy.
Once she recovered from her illness and they went out to play, she wanted to join them, and they continued to take her along for their wild adventures.
Back then, Thomas Lancaster would always put on a Big Brother act and lecture Jane Sampson, saying that she got sick easily because she didn’t run or jump enough. So she should join the boys to run and jump more.
Among all the children, Thomas Lancaster got scolded the most during those days. Nonetheless, he and Yvette Quick were the siblings most eager to have fun with Jane Sampson. They’d get reprimanded one day, and the next they’d continue taking her to climb trees for bird eggs or go down to the river for fish and shrimp. They were a group of kids committed to admitting mistakes but never changing.
However, every time her illness led to them getting scolded by the seniors, Jane Sampson felt quite guilty. She thought she shouldn’t go out to play with them again next time, otherwise she’d cause them to be scolded again. Yet the next day, as she saw them heading out, she couldn’t resist but followed.
Day after day, she grew up slowly like this, drinking medicine and getting her health back on track, her body gradually recovering, no longer as frail as in childhood.
Only when she reached the age where she could run and jump without worry, her temperament had been suppressed due to those changes.
Regarding Jane Sampson’s self-praise, James Black was already used to it. As long as she was happy, it was fine.
Moreover, in this matter, James Black didn’t deny that Jane Sampson was indeed very restrained.
"Once the child is born, I’ll peel crayfish for you to eat," James Black tapped Jane Sampson’s nose. "Spicy ones, big portion."
"Come on, say it again." Jane Sampson quickly raised her mobile phone and opened the recording. "You sometimes don’t keep your word, so quickly say it again, let me record it and save it."
James Black glanced at her but ignored her, instead picking up a piece of duck blood and putting it into her bowl.
Once duck blood went into the cold pot, it became very tender, and a gentle pinch could break it. James Black didn’t control his strength well, and the duck blood in Jane Sampson’s bowl broke in two.
"You’re so clumsy." Jane Sampson said disdainfully to James Black, then ordered him to pour some soy sauce and vinegar for her, as duck blood is only delicious with vinegar.
Jane Sampson watched as James Black poured a little and then tried to take the bottle away, quickly reaching out to press down on James Black’s arm, reminding him, "Add more vinegar; it’s like being pregnant and not feeling the sourness."
"Sour for boys, spicy for girls." James Black looked at Jane Sampson’s belly, "Looks like it’ll be a boy."
The last part of his sentence sounded somewhat regretful.
"Just keep guessing, anyway, you have a 50% chance of being right." Jane Sampson took the vinegar bottle from James Black’s hand and added some herself.
Today she had an examination and confirmed it was just one baby, so the possibility of twins was ruled out, thus no 100% chance for twin blessings.
When Jane Sampson got the examination form, she felt quite disappointed, thinking if she could have twins and give birth to two children at once, that would truly be a life victory.
