Chapter 10 : Why Is There So Much Drama?
Chapter 10 - Why Is There So Much Drama?
“Uncle, what’s wrong?” Chen Ran asked.
Could it be a problem with the program?
But Uncle Zhang’s current expression was a bit off!
“You’re still playing dumb with me,” Director Zhang said angrily.
“If Zhizhi hadn’t come clean last night, I wouldn’t have known you two were already close to dating.”
“No, Uncle, don’t slander my innocence out of thin air,” Chen Ran was also a bit anxious, completely baffled.
“What innocence do you have left? Did Zhizhi confess to you?” Director Zhang said.
Confess?
Chen Ran hurriedly said, “Uncle, that didn’t count as a confession! It was fake!”
Director Zhang chuckled.
“You’re still here playing dumb with your uncle. Just say it—are you lusting after my daughter but don’t want to take responsibility? Otherwise, when I wanted to set you two up, you acted like you had no interest, but you were secretly hooking up with Zhizhi behind my back!”
Chen Ran had a bit of a headache.
Why was he talking about not taking responsibility again? Did I, Chen Ran, look like such a scumbag?
The key point was, I’m being wronged!
He said, “Sister Zhizhi did send me a message confessing, but that was fake. I haven’t been chatting with her in private either; we only said a couple of things last night. If you don’t believe me, Uncle Zhang, you can look at my chat history!”
Director Zhang snorted coldly.
“Look at what? Look at how you rejected Zhizhi? Let me tell you, Zhizhi is truly heartbroken this time. If you don’t comfort her properly, will you even be able to face me?!”
He turned and left, but Chen Ran was a bit dumbfounded.
Without even thinking, he knew Zhang Fanzhi was playing tricks.
“This tactic is a bit despicable, isn’t it?!” Chen Ran dialed the number, wanting to find Zhang Fanzhi to ask for clarification.
But when he dialed, after the call went through, it was actually hung up on...
“......”
“......”
Chen Ran wouldn’t give up and dialed several times in a row.
It still rang twice and then was hung up.
When he dialed again, the other side simply turned off the phone.
Chen Ran was dazed. You even turned off your phone?
He opened WeChat and sent a message: “Sister Zhizhi, we can’t do this. Uncle’s misunderstanding is so deep; if he finds out the truth, he’ll be heartbroken!”

Chen Ran stubbornly sent a few question marks, yet all of them were accompanied by red exclamation marks.
Blacklisted?!
What kind of operation is this?!
She was still sending messages last night, and now she’s blacklisted me.
You’re a big star after all; be a bit more dignified, Sister!
Chen Ran sniffed. His head felt uncomfortable, and his heart felt even more uncomfortable.
He took out a tissue to blow his nose, then sent a text message over: “Won’t your conscience hurt?”
Obviously, there was no reply from that side.
Chen Ran tossed his phone aside, feeling like he had truly had his eyes opened.
Really, you completely couldn't tell.
Zhang Fanzhi’s looks, and the personality she displayed, completely didn’t seem like someone who would do such a scheming thing.
Can’t judge a book by its cover?
What gave Chen Ran a headache was how to explain to Uncle Zhang now…
I don't know what Zhang Fanzhi said, but Uncle Zhang already believes her. He’s likely in a fit of anger right now and won't listen to anything.
“Chen Ran, do you have a cold?”
Liu Bing saw him like this and showed some concern.
“Yeah, I slept too soundly last night and forgot to cover up with the quilt.” Chen Ran let out a sigh.
Liu Bing patted him on the shoulder: “It’ll be fine after these few busy days. You’ve been working late overtime; pay more attention to your health.”
“It’s fine, my body is okay. I should be better tomorrow; it won’t affect work.” Chen Ran gave a forced smile.
This cold was a bit heavy. Chen Ran’s nose was blocked, and his head felt groggy the whole time.
Fortunately, there wasn't much he needed to do. Most of what needed to be consulted on was discussed yesterday; today was just some supplementary work.
In his condition, one couldn't expect him to be in a very good state.
After being busy all morning, it was finally time for lunch.
At the old spot, Director Zhang was already sitting there.
Chen Ran breathed a sigh of relief and sat down.
“Got a cold?” Director Zhang saw his red nose and red eyes, only then realizing it belatedly, as he had been entirely occupied with being angry that morning.
“Mm.” Chen Ran nodded.
Director Zhang let out a “hei” and said, “Serves you right!”
Chen Ran: “...”
“Uncle, I don’t know what Sister Zhizhi told you, but at least give me a chance to explain!”
Director Zhang put down his chopsticks and looked at Chen Ran without speaking.
Chen Ran asked, “What is it?”
“Waiting for you to make up a story!” Director Zhang put on an expression of being all ears.
Chen Ran was defeated on the spot, saying weakly, “Uncle, you can’t be like this!”
Director Zhang said: “Nonsense, I know Zhizhi’s personality. Her temper might be average, but her merit is that she doesn't lie. I raised my daughter myself; I know her. A few days ago, she already said she was chatting with you; I only continued introducing people to her because I saw no reaction from your end. You kid, on the other hand, are great—playing the ‘sneaking around behind my back’ trick on me...”
“Chen Ran, Zhizhi has never been in a relationship before; I’m not lying to you about that. She even cried last night. Aside from being hit by me when she was a child, she has never cried for any other man in her life. If you keep acting like this, you’re just heartless!”
Chen Ran looked up at the sky.
Already saying she was chatting with me a few days ago.
We’ve only known each other for a few days!
Crying just because a confession failed—do we have such deep feelings?
Chen Ran couldn't understand; Zhang Fanzhi was a singer, so where did all this drama come from!
“Anyway, I’m laying it out right here: if you don’t give Zhizhi an explanation, then I won’t have you as a nephew anymore!” Director Zhang said angrily.
Chen Ran had no other choice. From a father’s perspective, it was perfectly fine for Uncle Zhang to stand on Zhang Fanzhi’s side.
He could only speak up: “Uncle Zhang, I can’t explain this clearly either. I’ll go back with you tonight and clear things up with Sister Zhizhi.”
“I’ll see what you can say,” Director Zhang let out a light snort.
For the rest of the time, Chen Ran just buried his head in his food.
Originally, his nose was too blocked from the cold for food to smell good, and now, with a heavy heart, it tasted even more flavorless.
He just ate a bit randomly and felt he had no appetite.
Director Zhang saw him like this and couldn’t help but say, “Don't push yourself too hard at work. Rest early tonight; don't ruin your health.”
Chen Ran gave an “mm,” really not wanting to speak.
After finishing his meal, Chen Ran went back to continue working.
Behind him, Director Zhang had his back to Chen Ran.
“Old Zhang, what good news is there to make you this happy?”
“Which eye of yours sees me being happy? I’m angry!”
“I don’t think you usually look this festive; your anger looks just like a smile.”
“......”
……
Working while sick was indeed a bit of an ordeal.
He had used half a box of tissues; the tip of his nose was stinging slightly from all the wiping, and the end of his nose was a patch of red.
Miserable as hell.
Finally, it was time to get off work.
In his state, he definitely couldn't work overtime tonight, so he left work early.
Director Zhang was already waiting for him.
“When you see Zhizhi in a bit, you have to speak to her properly. If she cries, I won't let you off,” Director Zhang warned first.
Chen Ran gave a muffled response.
The Zhang home.
Just as the door opened.
Auntie Yun stood at the door and said warmly:
“Chen Ran is here. Your uncle said you have a cold; why weren't you more careful? I simmered some soup; I'll serve you two bowls first to drive out the chill.”
Chen Ran’s heart warmed, and he felt that much of the pent-up frustration in his heart had dissipated.
