"Boom!!!"
The commander-level Descent Monster was blasted backward by a single strike from Fang Heng, its whole body engulfed in roaring hellfire, and the black liquid covering it was continuously burned away by the flames.
"Roar!!!"
The Descent Monster, severely wounded by the blow, let out a fierce roar but did not continue its attack; instead, it retreated backward.
Oh?
This was a higher-tier Descent Monster.
It seemed to possess basic intelligence, able to judge the difference in strength between opponents.
Fang Heng, while thinking, glanced up at the sky.
The levels of the Descent Monsters varied, and as the Star Rift in the high sky tore wider, the number of high-level Descent Monsters began to increase.
Commander-level monsters also started appearing.
"Fang Heng! Come back!"
Fang Heng turned to look. Enoch and his group had already approached the tower.
Still, many Descent Monsters were chasing toward the tower.
Heh, it seemed about time.
Fang Heng nodded silently, reached into his backpack, and pulled out a stack of rune paper, tossing it forward.
"Bang! Bang bang bang!!"
The rune paper exploded in midair, and vast swarms of Lickers leaped out from the seals, immediately charging toward the tower where the group was located.
Hmm? What were those creatures?
Seeing the Licker creatures, Charles and the others on the tower were taken aback.
The Lickers rapidly divided as they ran, one splitting into two, two into four, and in a short moment forming a huge, frenzied swarm, lunging toward the tower.
Along the way, the Descent Monsters immediately attacked the Lickers.
The black arms of the Descent Monsters pierced the Lickers’ bodies, but the Lickers completely ignored the damage, seemingly feeling no pain, and continued advancing while slashing back with their claws.
The Lickers inherited Fang Heng’s terrifying strength attribute; a single strike from a claw tore the Descent Monsters apart instantly.
"Bang! Bang!!"
The splattered black liquid fell to the ground but quickly gathered and revived.
The Licker swarm could not unleash hellfire and thus could not kill the Descent Monsters quickly. They did not linger, however, and swiftly broke through the Descent Monsters’ blockade, gathering in large numbers to converge on the tower, then quickly climbing along the outer walls.
In a short time, the Licker swarm formed a solid armor covering the outside of the tower!
Except for a window at the top, the entire tower was completely sealed.
At that moment, Enoch’s group finally returned to the tower, and with the help of the guards, they closed the main doors again.
The group felt as if they had escaped death; exhaustion hit them instantly, and they collapsed in all directions, gasping heavily.
"Enoch, take me to Fang Heng," the patriarch said, drawing a deep breath and not pausing, immediately leading the elders to the upper levels to meet Fang Heng.
Only now did the patriarch truly understand who the real powerhouse was.
If Fang Heng had not intervened just now, their entire team could have perished here.
He still could not understand why his previous simulations had produced no clue of this calamity.
Soon, Enoch led the group to the upper domain of the tower.
Through the windows, they could see the Licker swarm still grappling with the Descent Monsters outside, and a shiver ran through their eyes.
The Licker swarm seemed capable of holding off the Descent Monsters; for now, their safety was secured.
But the Star Rift had not ended yet.
"Whoosh!"
Fang Heng moved through the window, retreating back into the tower, and his hell domain quickly receded.
At once, everyone’s eyes turned toward Fang Heng, their expressions changing to something extraordinary.
Enoch immediately cupped his fists toward Fang Heng. "Thank you, senior, for your assistance!"
The patriarch also cupped his fists toward Fang Heng, speaking solemnly. "We of the Star Clan are eternally grateful for your life-saving deed. Should you ever require anything, we would cross fire and water without hesitation."
"You’re welcome," Fang Heng said.
He looked at Enoch and asked, "Did everyone else make it out?"
"After the calamity descended, everyone scattered to hide. We gathered as many as we could, but some may not have had time to regroup and went into hiding on their own."
The Descent Monsters did not have strong tracking abilities; if someone hid, survival was still possible.
"The calamity won’t last long."
Fang Heng pointed toward the ancestral temple area outside the window. "Look over there."
The group followed his gesture and saw faint blue barriers appearing around the ancestral Star Source temple.
Any Descent Monster that tried to approach and touch the barrier instantly ignited in blue ice flames and burned to ashes in an instant.
Wei Qian was still inside the temple.
The pale blue barrier had been raised by him.
Looking at the barrier, the group felt a rising sense of dread.
Who exactly was this guy?
"Wait. When the Star Rift ends, the monsters will retreat. We just need to defend here," Fang Heng said, condensing a mark in front of him with his hands.
He had done all he could; now it was time not to waste a moment.
As the Nine-Star Rift opened, the concentration of star energy skyrocketed hundreds of times with the appearance of Descent Monsters.
This could be used to refine the body!
Then continue!
Fang Heng’s right God’s Eye spun rapidly.
"Chi, chi chi chi..."
Tiny alchemy magic array runes appeared in midair before him, quickly condensing into a slowly rotating magical array diagram.
The star energy outside the tower was immediately drawn toward the array, pulled rapidly into it.
Charles and the others’ expressions changed slightly.
Good grief, at a time like this, he was still refining star energy?
They dared not recklessly absorb the Star Rift’s power like Fang Heng; instead, they closed their eyes and quickly healed their injuries to prepare for the next battle.
The star energy slowly enveloped Fang Heng’s body, absorbed into him, refining his body rapidly and expanding his sea of consciousness.
Fang Heng also sent a small portion of his mind to monitor the ancestral Star Source.
After more than ten minutes, Fang Heng suddenly opened his eyes and fixed them on the rift in the high sky.
"It’s coming."
As the pillar of light from the center of the ancestral Star Source reached its maximum, the giant rift in the sky also expanded to its limit, slowly revealing a massive black shadow.
Whoosh!
Wei Qian appeared from the central temple, levitating in midair, looking up at the black shadow with eyes full of expectation.
"Chi, chi chi..."
Two black hands emerged from the shadow, the enormous palms tearing at the Star Rift, revealing a huge head, the body struggling to push through the rift.
A gigantic Descent Monster.
Three crimson spheres floated on its head.
"Boom!!!"
The Descent Monster emerged from the Star Rift, landing with a footfall that shook the ground violently.
A terrifying coercion radiated outward in all directions.
