Disaster-Level Player Is Too Good at Broadcasting

Chapter 218 - 218: « What It All Gives »

The floors above seventy-five were deeper.

Not harder in the accumulation sense — the fable density they drew from was calibrated for a convergent being's compound output rather than an accumulation-class climber's sequential processing. They were harder in the way that a more complex instrument was harder to play than a simpler one: the difficulty was in the depth of engagement required rather than the effort of engagement required.

He ran seventy-six through seventy-nine across three days, the compound output running cleanly through the collar piece and the boundary framework, the star at the co-equal register that floor seventy had established. Each floor drew from different categories of his accumulated density simultaneously, the Tower's calibration above the convergence floor designed for the kind of compound engagement that the application tests had been developing, now running at full expression rather than in test format.

The fable weight he was integrating above seventy-five was also different in character. The myth-grade density below sixty had been ancient stories — the World-Eater, the archivist, the bridge builder, foundation myths and civilization-spanning preservation narratives. Above seventy-five the Tower's fable layers drew from a category he hadn't encountered in the mid-range: living fables, stories that were still being told, narratives that were accumulating density in real time rather than drawing on what had already been compressed into fixed weight by centuries of collective telling.

Living fable integration was a different process from archived fable integration. The density was less stable, still forming, the integration requiring the star's preservation property to hold it in a useful state while the compound output processed it. He understood after seventy-seven what the star's contribution at the co-equal register was doing in this floor range: not just running in parallel but actively stabilizing the less-stable material the floors above the convergence threshold were introducing into his accumulation.

The Tower had been calibrated for a convergent being who had a preservation component.

He filed that and kept climbing.

On seventy-eight he became aware of the entity following him.

Not through the floor's scenario architecture. Through the native-level space that the convergence completion had opened to him — the same access channel that let him move directly to Jiseok's workshop without a transit gate, the Tower's upper architecture accessible as a navigable medium rather than a destination reached through formal transit. The native-level space had presence in it above the convergence floor. Not the ambient monitoring quality of the Compact's surveillance or the active communication quality of constellation contacts. Something that existed in the native-level space the way Jiseok existed in his workshop — as a native presence rather than a visiting one.

The entity following him through seventy-eight had the character of the Tower's administrative intelligence but was not the same. Something that had been in the Tower's architecture for long enough that its presence had the settled quality of the environment itself rather than an entity within it. Not the administrative intelligence's maintained spaces and communication interfaces. The Tower's native architecture generating a presence from its own structure, the way very old buildings had specific qualities in specific rooms that weren't explicable by the materials or the light.

He was aware of it without being able to fully characterize it.

It didn't communicate. It followed him through seventy-eight, present in the native-level space without interfering with the floor's scenario architecture or the standard transit between floors. On seventy-nine it was still there, closer, the quality of its presence having the specific register of something that was studying rather than watching — the difference between surveillance and the focused attention of something genuinely curious.

He finished seventy-nine's scenario and stood in the transit corridor and addressed the native presence directly.

"What are you," he said.

The native presence responded in the same register the star operated in — not language, not constellation communication, something structural. Information arriving as a quality rather than a content.

It was old. Pre-Tower in the sense that the Tower had been built around it rather than it having been placed in the Tower. A presence that had existed in the dimensional architecture before the Tower's founding intelligence had built the floor system in that architecture, a remnant presence of whatever the dimensional space had been before the Tower's construction had organized it.

The Tower's native architecture wasn't empty before the Tower was built. Something had been there.

He held that for a moment.

The pre-Tower presence had been following him because the convergence completion had made him visible to it in a way that standard climbers weren't visible — the native-level access the convergence gave him had opened a channel to the dimensional architecture that pre-dated the Tower itself, and the architecture's original presence was registering the new native-level occupant.

"How many of the Tower's convergent beings have you followed," he said.

The response was structural: two. Jiseok, forty years ago. Him.

Two convergent beings in six hundred and sixty-six floors of Tower architecture, in whatever time the Tower had been operating in this dimensional space, and the pre-Tower presence had followed both of them through the floors above the convergence threshold with the focused attention of something that had been alone in its own architecture for a very long time and found the company of native-level beings interesting.

He thought about six hundred and sixty-six floors. He was at seventy-nine.

"Walk with me," he said, to the pre-Tower presence.

He went into floor eighty.

The chat was watching floor eighty's stream feed and the overlay data and had been quiet for several minutes in the specific quiet of a chat that was processing something it didn't have full vocabulary for.

💬 TowerWatchKR: is something else in the floor with him

💬 GhostClimber_: the overlay shows a presence indicator that's not in the standard enemy registry

💬 Watchdog_KR: it's not registering as hostile

💬 SeoulTowerFan: what is it

💬 RealMvpStream: something that was there before the Tower was

💬 KangMinFanatic77: WHAT

💬 RealMvpStream: the Tower was built in a dimensional space that already had something in it. convergent beings can access that space. Kang Min just made contact with whatever was already there.

💬 user_83421: how do you know that

💬 RealMvpStream: because he said 'walk with me' before entering the floor and now something that isn't in any floor registry is moving through floor eighty alongside him and it doesn't look like a threat. it looks like a companion.

💬 KangMinFanatic77: he made a friend in the architecture of the universe

💬 RealMvpStream: apparently

💬 SeoulTowerFan: of course he did

💬 GhostClimber_: of course he did

💬 user_48821: only him

💬 RealMvpStream: only him
