Chapter 101 - 101: « Disaster-Class Player Is A First-Time Dad! [4] »
The apartment was on the top floor of a high-rise building in Seoul. It was very large. The living room had tall windows. The floors were made of polished white stone. Everything looked clean and expensive. Kang Min walked through the hallway looking at the rooms. There were many empty spaces.
"I don't think there's any reason to move," Kang Min said.
He spoke to the empty room. White Stars Entertainment was a powerful company. They had many partners. One of the wealthy chaebol leaders had given him this apartment. Kang Min did not have to pay for it. The rent was zero. This was a good arrangement. White Stars was a partner for Kang Company. Keeping this place was a smart business decision.
He thought about the name of his new business. Kang Company. It was simple.
"I didn't even have to think for a name," he said. "Kang was perfect."
He stood in front of a large window. He looked out at the city lights. He looked down at his reflection in the glass. He stayed silent for a moment. Then he spoke again in a low voice.
"I hope you're looking at all the accomplishments I've been making," he said. "Knowing you are is all I could ever need to keep me moving."
He felt a sudden tug on his pants. He looked down.
The toddler was there. She had grey hair. It was tied into two ponytails. She had red eyes. She was holding a piece of a expensive curtains in her hand. She had ripped it off the wall.
"Appa," she said.
Kang Min sighed. He reached down and picked her up. She was very heavy for her size. Her body was dense. This was because she was not a normal human.
He walked toward the sofa. The sofa was made of soft leather. The girl immediately tried to bite the armrest. Kang Min put his hand between her teeth and the leather.
"No," he said.
He thought about the night she arrived. It was the night prior to the 11th floor expedition. He had been sitting in this apartment. The star-seed was on the table. It was an egg. It was black and purple. It was the size of a watermelon. Suddenly, the egg started to glow. It started to vibrate.
Kang Min realized it was hatching. He felt the egg pulling mana from the air. It was not enough. The egg started to scream. It was a high-pitched sound that broke the windows in the kitchen. Kang Min realized the child needed his mana to survive the hatching process.
Because of that, he had to stay. He could not leave the apartment. He sent a message to the expedition organizers. He told them he could not make it as a porter. He felt bad about the timing. But the child needed his presence. She needed a constant supply of his mana to hatch safely. If he had gone to the expedition as a porter like he was supposed to, it would have been chaotic. The egg would have hatched in his backpack. It would have killed everyone nearby.
The hatching process was violent. The star-seed egg did not just sit there. It began to dart across the apartment walls. It moved like a bird trapped in a cage. It flew at high speeds.
*Thud. Crack. Boom.*
The egg hit the television. The television exploded. The egg hit the dining table. The table broke in half. It was a good thing that rich players lived in this building. The walls were reinforced. They were built to withstand S-rank strength. Because of that, the apartment did not collapse. The egg hit the walls over and over. It left deep dents in the reinforced concrete.
Kang Min had to chase the egg. He had to pour his mana into it while it was moving. It was exhausting. This led to him being very tired by the morning. Finally, the egg stopped. It fell to the floor and cracked open. The girl was inside. She was already the size of a toddler. She was not a baby. She was fully developed.
Back in the present, the girl grabbed Kang Min's nose. She squeezed it hard.
"Appa!" she shouted.
"Let go," Kang Min said.
She did not let go. She laughed. It was a loud sound. Kang Min reached into a small jar on the coffee table. He pulled out a mana shard. It was a jagged piece of blue crystal. It was full of raw energy.
He held the shard in front of her. She let go of his nose and grabbed the shard. She put it in her mouth immediately.
*Crunch. Crunch. Snap.*
Her teeth crushed the shard instantly. She chewed the sharp pieces like they were soft fruit. She swallowed the energy. She looked happy.
Even though she was already this grown, she still needed mana to develop well. Her body was growing every day. Her bones were getting stronger. Kang Min could give her his own mana. But his mana was different. It was dark and heavy. If he gave her too much, it made him very tired. It was exhausting for him to keep her fed with his own soul. Because of that, he gave her mana shards. They were a good substitute.
The girl climbed onto his head. She sat on his neck. She was very strong. She pulled his hair to balance herself.
"Appa! Appa!"
"I am busy," Kang Min said.
He picked up a tablet. He wanted to see what had happened during the expedition. He was not there for the first part. He only appeared at the end inside the corpse. He wanted to see the footage that the drones had captured.
He scrolled through the videos on Bnet. There were many clips. Most of them showed the players fighting the Silver Guardians. He saw Leonhardt Weiss taking hits. He saw the porters running.
Then he found a short video. It was titled "The Moment of First Contact."
The video showed the 65th Demon King. It was a terrifying sight. It was a mountain of frozen flesh and many eyes. It was cold. Even the camera lens had frost on it.
Sasha Kim was in the video. She was the Russian player. She had blonde hair and blue eyes. She walked toward the Demon King. She did not look scared. She stopped ten meters away from the monster.
She lowered her head. She performed a formal greeting.
"Greetings, 65th Demon King," Sasha Kim said in the video.
Kang Min stopped the video. He stared at the screen. His eyes were wide.
"What?" he said.
He felt a chill that was not from the video. The 65th Demon King was an entity from the Deep Abyss. In this world, the players called them "Floor Bosses" or "Calamities." No one knew their numbers. No one knew the hierarchy of the Demon Kings. Even the High Rankers thought they were just unique monsters.
But Sasha Kim knew. She called him by his exact rank. She knew he was the 65th.
"How does she know that is the 65th Demon King?" Kang Min asked himself.
He watched the video again. He saw her face. She looked like she was talking to an old acquaintance. She was not surprised by the monster's presence.
"I wanted to see what it was like," Kang Min thought. "I wanted to know how I ended up on the 11th floor into a demon corpse. I wanted to know how I was reborn out of it. But this is much better."
This was a major discovery.
"How does she know?" he muttered. "Just who is she?"
In the old world, only the constellations and the Regressors knew the ranks. If Sasha Kim knew, it meant she was not a normal player. This led to a dangerous conclusion. Sasha Kim was a variable that Kang Min had not planned for.
The toddler was now hanging from his neck. She was in front of him. Her legs were wrapped around his waist. Her arms were around his throat. She was leaning her head back.
"Appa... appa..." she said.
It was the only word she knew. She said it with a smile. She was very happy to be hanging from his neck.
Kang Min could feel her strength. If she squeezed harder, she would break his windpipe. He held the tablet with one hand. He used the other hand to support the child so she would not fall.
He opened his messaging app. He found the contact for Park Woonhee.
He started to type. He moved his thumb quickly. He had to be fast. If Sasha Kim left the country, it would be hard to find her again.
[Text message to Woonhee: Contact or try and get a hold of Sasha Kim before she leaves South Korea. I want a word with her.]
He pressed the send button.
The toddler leaned forward. She licked his cheek.
"Appa."
