VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne

Chapter 166: The Golden Prince

Whilst Belladonna was bullying the Dragon and treating it like her weapon, rather than her opponent, Revenant was clashing with the Prince of Stars. He twirled his scythe, its curved blade cleaving at Prince of Stars over and over, but never getting a chance to actually hit him.

Despite his heavy armour, which was reinforced further by the golden light of his Providence, the Prince was deceptively agile. Constantly weaving out of the way of Revenants swings, that carried enough strength behind them that they sent blades of air shooting forwards with every swing, destroying everything behind Prince of Stars.

The shadows shifted beside Revenant, lifting until they resembled a dark doorway, that he leapt through a second later to dodge a retalitory swing from Prince of Stars. A moment later, he sprung from the shadows behind the Prince, keeping the momentum of his previous leap, and was already swinging his blade down towards Prince of Stars neck.

CLANG!

Revenant grit his teeth as he once again failed to give this wretched, vile man so much as a superficial scratch never mind an actual wound. His undead minion was currently causing chaos in the lines of the Golden Princes, making sure none of them interrupted his little duel and also enacting part of his vengeance.

With the enigma girl out of the way, no one was going to stop him. He would kill this bastard over and over, until he was satisfied that the ’great’ and ’venerable’ Prince of Stars had suffered as much as he had. It was only fair for the way he had been treated.

He swung his scythe a few more times, using the mana from his most powerful source well to enhance his body. A fact that should have ensured his victory, and yet even still the damned Prince of Stars dodged out of the way, or always managed to raise his shield in the perfect place.

The next swing was deflected to the side, burying his scythe into the dirt, with an annoyingly lazy flick of Prince of Stars sword that was just too perfect to be an accident. It was as if he could into the future and knew when every single attack was coming.

"A scythe? Of all the weapons in the world, you chose this?" Prince of Stars said with a voice filled with contempt and vile disdain, at least that was how it sounded to Revenant, as he tried to pry his weapon from the ground.

"You do realise this isn’t even a weapon, right? It’s a farmers tool. It is not designed for battle in the slightest, and it makes your strikes way too predictable. There’s only one way you can strike, and you have to heave it around and twirl it like a circus performer.

I get that it fits your whole ’dark lord’ ’spirit of the damned’ vibe you’ve got going on, but could you have no at least have picked a war scythe? You know, the one designed for actual battle and not to look as edgy as possible-"

"SHUT UP!" Revenant screamed at the top of his lungs, tearing his weapon from the ground and heaving it back, ready for another swing just like all of the others.

"STOP TALKING YOU ARROGANT PRICK! I AM GOING TO KILL YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID TO ME?"

He swung his scythe again, causing Prince of Stars to roll his eyes in contempt and simply step forward, bypassing the natural arc of the blade as he stepped inside his range. With a casual raise of his sword vertically behind him, Prince of Stars stopped the scythe swing as well as stopped Revenant from trying to pull it into his back.

"I don’t even know who you are. We have never met, and I have never done anything to you." Prince of Stars said in a low, direct tone as he tried to talk some sense into the enraged Necromancer, but Revenant simply grit his teeth and growled like a feral dog.

"Everything that happened is your fault. All their blood is on your hands." He growled through his teeth, literally spitting the word ’blood’ into the Prince of Stars face.

"It’s all because of you and your little girlfriend."

"Girlfriend..." The Prince of Stars muttered, his concentration waning as his eyes unfocused from the seething face of the man in front of him and instead looked over his shoulder, at the feral woman throwing the Dragon around like a monster.

Revenant rammed his head forwards, smashing his forehead into Prince of Stars nose, causing a burst of pain and a flash of white light in his eyes before blood started to gush from the shattered nose.

Prince of Stars stumbled back, as Revenant pulled his scythe blade out of the way, and immediately swung it whilst the valiant Prince was stunned. Prince of Stars tried to react to the swing, but with his vision blurred and stained with tears, his sword missed the block and finally the impractical scythe blade found its target.

It’s tip carved through Prince of Stars handsome face, slicing him from cheek to forehead, and forcing him to stumble back more.

"Ha! Didn’t see that one coming did you?! What’s the matter? No more important lessons to give you arrogant prick!" Revenant shouted with a manic laugh, however after a few seconds his laugh quickly died down.

Prince of Stars straightened up as a delicate hand touched his arm softly. A white light manifested around the wicked gash that split his handsome face in two, causing the blood to immediately stop and in moments the wound had knitted itself together.

The wound that had taken so much effort for Revenant to land, had been erased in mere seconds.

Saige removed his hand from Prince of Stars arm, retracting the healing energy he had bestowed, before giving him a friendly smile.

"Honestly, How have you lasted this long without me?"

"On a wish and a prayer," Prince of Stars replied with a laugh, "How is Lilith doing?"

"She’s fine now. She’s taking care of the pet causing issues with your guys."

Revenant seethed more, grinding his teeth into stumps as he watched the pair of them talking like old chums, and like nothing was wrong at all. It was a sight that churned his stomach.

"Reaper... I don’t want to fight you."

"Then don’t." Saige replied bluntly, turning to Revenant and losing any semblance of friendliness.

"I can see why my sister said not to trust you. You are dangerous and a complete idiot. But for some reason she does anyways. So get your act together, and stop lashing out at others like a fucking child.

We came here for a purpose, not to squabble between each other. When the Dragon is dead, then I’ll let Prince kill you all you want. How’s that?"

"But-" Revenant started, only to be immediately cut off by Saige’s stern, demanding tone.

"But nothing! If you want to work with us, you listen to orders. If you can’t even do that, then you can just leave, or go die for all I care."

Revenant opened his mouth and moved to say something more, most likely to either complain or argue, but whatever he was about to say got drowned out by the deafening crash of the dragon being thrown across the field.

It’s tail still in Belladonna’s hands, as it quickly spread its wings and rocketed off of the ground. Its shadow passing over them as it flew over their heads, gaining speed with the twin jet streams it was producing with its body.

Seeing it start to leave, Revenants faced paled, even more than the deathly pale that it was, and the anger completely left his body as he finally realised what he had done in his lust for vengeance.
