VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne

Chapter 154: The Blame Game

"Sure, go ahead. Better to get everything cleared up before we go in." Saige said, keeping his naturally serious expression as he turned towards Figg. However the Druid stayed silent as he stared back at him blankly, with a slightly questioning look in his eyes.

After a few seconds of neither of them talking, Figg glanced to either side of him as if he was expecting someone else to be standing behind him, before frowning.

"Huh? Me? I didn’t say anything."

Saige frowned deeper, doubting his own ears at Figgs dismissal. He was sure that it had been a mans voice that had spoken, and while he might not be familiar with the new members and their voices, Figg was the only one close to sounding manly in their group, including himself.

That was when Saige noticed his sisters expression, which had completely twisted up in disgust as she glowered at something behind him, causing him to finally turn to the individual that had actually spoken.

It was a man in gothic black armour that looked like it was thousands of years old and had been pulled from a crypt before he put it on. His skin was so deathly pale, and clung so tight to his skin with so little fat to speak of, that it would have been easy to mistake him for a walking skeleton at first.

"How did you do it?" The skin covered skeleton asked, glaring at Belladonna with a strange look in his eyes, almost like he was trying to solve some kind of puzzle in his mind.

"I just... I don’t understand. How did you manage to do this?"

"Me?!" Belladonna barked back with half amused snort, "You’re going to blame me for a Dragon being loose? How in the hell am I responsible for this in your twisted little mind. I wasn’t even in this world when it happened."

"This... world?" The Skeleton parroted, narrowing his eyes as the puzzling expression deepened, causing Belladonna to grit her teeth in annoyance.

Saige glanced between the two of them, noticing the animosity between them. It was hard not to notice. The strange atmosphere was so thick with tension and all sorts of charged hostility that you could choke on it.

Scowling deeply, the adorable little fox boy stepped between them, placing a delicate hand on the Skeletons chest and spoke in a low, aggressive tone.

"Listen, I don’t know who you are or how you know my sister. But I think it’s best if you just leave. Now."

The Skeleton glanced down at Saige’s hand on his chest, as his own face took on the same disgusted expression as Belladonna’s, yet with a hint of fear in his eyes. As if he was actually afraid of the tiny, adorable boy more than a head shorter than him.

"I still can’t believe what happened to you..." He muttered incoherently, "I just don’t get it. How did so much change? What went wrong? None of this should be happening this way, but somehow I know it’s her fault. I just... I just don’t understand how."

He kept muttering lowly to himself, almost like he was on the verge of some kind of psychotic break.

"What do you want creep?" Belladonna barked at him impatiently, her mood completely soured as she glared at the strange man.

His eyes regained focus as he returned to reality, glancing one last time at Saige, before looking up at Belladonna with a cocky smile as if nothing else had happened.

"Well, other than wanting to know how you managed to do this one, because I know it has to be your fault. I wanted to know if you understand anything more about our last conversation.

I mean you should be feeling it by now, right?"

Belladonna’s hateful glare deepened and she grit her teeth more, but she elected not to answer. But that only made the Skeletal Mans smirk grow wider as he let out a cocky laugh.

"See? You know I am right. I was right then, and I’m right now when I tell you this. If you want to kill that thing, you’ll need to do it fast. The cities aren’t just going to stand by and let us raid it.

They will come with an army, they will kill it and they will take it away. You will get nothing if they arrive. So if you want that exp, you’ll have to work together with the likes of me to get it.

And just to incentivise you further. I know something that the army doesn’t."

He licked his lips eagerly, glancing over the group before him as if he was just waiting for someone to ask him the question he was so clearly leading them to. However all he got in return was silent stares, either in confusion or anger.

He let out a sigh, rolling his eyes at their uncooperative attitude.

"Ugh, so unfun. Don’t you guys know how this is supposed to work?"

"Speak, before I rip your jaw off and shove it up your ass." Belladonna replied flatly.

The skeletal man clicked his tongue, shifting slightly as he had no doubt that was a threat she would gladly follow through on.

"Fine. Be that way... What I know, since you asked, is where the Dragon’s Lair is. If you help me kill it before the army arrives, I will take you all there."

All of their eyes turned to Belladonna, as it was clear that she was the one that knew this stranger the most, even if their relationship was clearly unfriendly.

"Well?" Saige asked softly, walking over to his sister and touching her shoulder gently, "Do you trust him? Can we believe what he says."

Belladonna narrowed her eyes more at the skeletal man, who responded with another condescending and unbearably cocky smirk. As if everything was dancing in the palm of his hand and he was the most important person in the world.

After a few seconds of silence, Belladonna finally let out a low growl of annoyance and answered.

"No, We can’t trust him. Not in the slightest. I certainly don’t, but I still believe what he says is true. He’s too full of himself to bother lying to us about this, but if you want your confirmation, have him swear it to the gods beneath the open skies.

Who knows maybe it will be funny to see him be smited for this.

Besides... He needs it dead even more than we do. Don’t you corpse boy?" Belladonna said, returning his cocky smirk.
