Chapter 146: The Trap Springs
The Trap Springs
"Go ahead," Lucas said calmly, his voice carrying quiet authority."But don’t hurt her. Just kill the guy next to her."
He didn’t raise his voice. He didn’t need to.
The kind of authority he carried wasn’t loud—it pressed down on people, slow and suffocating, until obedience felt like the only natural response.
He leaned back in his chair in the monitoring room, the leather creaking faintly beneath his weight. One leg crossed over the other, posture relaxed, almost bored—but his eyes... his eyes never left the screen.
Cold. Focused. Calculating.
On the screen, Charlotte Bonds and Julian D’Aurelius were still wandering around the underground casino.
Lucas had no idea about Julian’s true strength.
After all, Evan had never told anyone about being injured by Julian.
And the members of the Scythe Division had been captured before they could report anything.
To Lucas, Julian was nothing more than a rich playboy from the D’Aurelius household.
A useless obstacle.
His plan was simple.
First, have the casino men kill Julian.
Then he would appear dramatically and save Charlotte.
He even smiled faintly as he imagined the scene.
After saving her, he wouldn’t tell her his name.
He would simply disappear.
Leaving behind mystery.
Leaving behind gratitude.
Leaving behind curiosity.
And later...
At the perfect moment, he would appear in her life again.
By then, she would already be emotionally drawn to the man who had once saved her life.
Lucas tapped his finger on the desk lightly.
Perfect.
"Get ready to move," the casino owner ordered.
With a wave of his hand, dozens of men immediately sprang into action.
—
Back inside the casino.
After wandering around for a while, Charlotte had quietly gathered enough information.
Her sharp detective instincts had already picked up several suspicious details.
She gently tugged on Julian’s arm.
"Shall we leave now?"
Her voice was low, cautious.
Julian nodded.
"Let’s go."
But even as he spoke, something in his chest felt off.
The plot...
Was it shifting again?
Before they could move far—
A loud shout suddenly echoed through the casino.
"There they are!"
A group of men burst through the crowd.
More than thirty people rushed toward them, armed with knives, steel pipes, and clubs.
The man leading the charge pointed straight at Julian and Charlotte.
"It’s them!"
The entire casino fell silent for a moment.
Gamblers turned their heads.
Slot machines continued flashing.
Dice rolled across tables.
But everyone’s attention was suddenly locked on the confrontation.
"What the hell is happening?"
"Someone’s in trouble..."
The murmurs spread.
Julian’s eyes sharpened instantly.
"Run."
Without hesitation, he grabbed Charlotte’s hand and pulled her toward the back hallway.
This was an underground casino.
The only real exit was the elevator.
Running toward it would expose them immediately.
And staying in the open area meant being surrounded.
So Julian made a quick decision.
He dragged Charlotte straight into the restroom.
The metal door slammed behind them.
Julian turned quickly.
"Contact someone. Now."
"I’ll hold them off."
He knew Charlotte’s watch had an emergency contact system.
In the original storyline, she hadn’t even had time to activate it before being captured.
But this time...
Things were different.
Charlotte nodded immediately.
She pressed several hidden buttons on the side of her watch.
The watch vibrated softly.
The signal had been sent.
Her father had personally designed this device for her.
If she ever activated the emergency signal, a response team would arrive within fifteen minutes.
Meanwhile, Julian quickly scanned the restroom.
His eyes landed on a maintenance hammer hanging beside a broken sink.
He grabbed it.
His defense was ridiculously high.
But his attack power was... less impressive.
Improvised weapons would have to do.
Just as he raised the hammer—
The restroom door burst open.
The attackers flooded in.
Leading them was a long-haired youth carrying a watermelon knife, its blade glinting under the harsh fluorescent light.
Their instructions had been clear.
The man could be killed.
The woman must not be harmed.
Seeing Julian blocking the doorway, the youth rushed forward without hesitation.
He raised the knife high and slashed toward Julian’s shoulder.
CLANG.
The blade struck.
But the sound was wrong.
It sounded like metal hitting stone.
The youth’s expression froze.
"What the hell—?"
Julian grimaced.
"You damn well chopped me..."
Then he swung the hammer.
CRACK.
The hammer smashed directly onto the youth’s head.
Blood splattered.
The youth screamed in agony and collapsed.
The watermelon knife clattered to the floor.
It looked like a monster in a video game had just dropped its loot.
Behind Julian, Charlotte shouted,
"Are you okay?!"
"I’m fine," Julian replied quickly.
He shook his head.
Charlotte didn’t waste time.
She bent down and picked up the fallen watermelon knife.
In one smooth motion, she stepped forward.
Now she stood shoulder to shoulder with Julian.
The attackers hesitated.
Their boss had specifically warned them not to harm the woman.
For a moment, no one moved.
Then one of the smarter thugs shouted,
"Two of you hold her off!"
"The rest kill the guy!"
Two men carrying steel pipes rushed toward Charlotte, trying to restrain her.
The rest swarmed Julian.
Weapons swung down toward him from every direction.
Knives.
Steel pipes.
Clubs.
The attackers expected screams.
Broken bones.
A quick death.
But instead—
They realized something horrifying.
The man in front of them...
Was like a stone golem.
Every weapon that struck him produced the same dull sound.
CLANG.
THUD.
No matter if it was a knife or a steel pipe—
It had absolutely no effect.
