Chapter 124: A Dangerous Kind of Comfort
A Dangerous Kind of Comfort
Evening settled heavily over the D’Aurelius Family property. Silence crept in, slow but certain.
A hush lay over the big house, lit gently by small brights along the path. Smells drifted - fresh-cut lawn, something sweet opening after dark. Upstairs, quiet ruled now that workers completed their tasks, rooms emptied room by room.
Julian D’Aurelius sat reclined on the wide bed inside his personal quarters.
A few seconds later—
The door opened softly.
Lina Ashford stepped inside.
Julian immediately grinned.
"Hehehe."
The sound carried the unmistakable tone of someone about to cause trouble.
Lina already knew that smile.
Her lips twitched slightly.
Here we go again...
She forced a polite smile and walked over to the bed before sitting down on the mattress.
Julian didn’t hesitate for even a second.
He moved like lightning.
His head dropped directly onto her lap.
"Ahh... perfect."
Lina stiffened slightly.
Her long green hair, tied loosely behind her head in a soft ponytail, slid over one shoulder like a cascade of emerald silk. A few loose strands framed her face, brushing gently against her pale cheeks.
Her purple eyes, clear and bright, widened slightly.
Her lips parted in surprise.
"Y-Young Master Julian..."
Guilty? Not a emotion of guilt flicker crossed Julian’s face.
A sudden nudge came - he shamelessly rubbed his cheek against her thigh like a cat finding a warm cushion.
"Your thighs are amazing," he said lazily.
"So soft."
"Perfect pillow."
Lina’s cheeks warmed a little.
A half-smile tugged at her mouth, uneasy. The corners lifted without meaning it.
"Thank you..."
Even so, her fingers crept toward his head. Yet they kept going.
Fingers started moving slow circles on his scalp.
Fingers like twigs, pale and calm, touched his head - steady pressure moving in slow circles. A quiet touch, sure of where it needed to go.
The faint scent of her perfume drifted down toward him.
A hint of flowers drifted through the air, blended with a crisp touch that reminded one of wet grass at dawn.
Julian inhaled quietly.
"Hmm... you even smell nice."
Lina’s cheeks warmed further.
She had been living in the D’Aurelius household for some time now.
And honestly—
It was comfortable.
The family treated their servants surprisingly well.
The meals were good.
Her room was clean.
No one bullied her.
Compared to her life as an assassin...
This place almost felt peaceful.
But—
There was one problem.
Her gaze lowered toward the man lying on her lap.
This guy...
He’s getting more and more demanding.
At first it had just been simple tasks.
Tea.
Cleaning.
Small massages.
Now—
He treated her lap like his personal pillow.
And somehow—
She still hadn’t been kicked out.
That thought made her feel both frustrated and confused.
But there’s no way I’m leaving.
Absolutely not.
-----
Julian stretched slightly while resting on her lap.
"Ahh... this is nice."
"It’s always more relaxing at home."
"The outside world is too dangerous."
Lina’s fingers paused slightly.
Her eyes narrowed.
"Dangerous?"
Her voice carried cautious curiosity.
"Why is it dangerous outside?"
Her mind immediately began analyzing possibilities.
Did Evan send someone?
Did the Obsidian Wing make a move already?
She hadn’t heard any reports yet.
Julian sighed dramatically.
"It’s complicated."
"The world is full of dangers."
He stared at the ceiling like a philosopher contemplating life.
A few seconds later—
His inner voice appeared.
[These women are too dangerous.]
[They all want my body.]
[They were fighting to hold my hand in front of everyone.]
[Now the entire Valemont city calls me a scumbag.]
[How am I supposed to pick up girls in the future?]
"...."
Lina rolled her eyes.
Her fingers continued pressing his temples.
This idiot.
So that’s the "danger" he’s talking about.
She was half amused.
Half speechless.
-------
Just as Julian was enjoying his comfortable position—
His phone buzzed.
He pulled it out lazily.
When he saw the caller ID—
His eyes sharpened.
Ammy D’Aurelius.
Julian answered calmly.
"What’s up?"
From the phone came Ammy’s voice.
"Big brother... do you have time right now?"
"It’s about the thing I mentioned before."
Julian’s smile slowly widened.
The fish had finally bitten.
"Sure," he said casually.
"Wait for me at the company."
"I’ll be there soon."
The call ended.
Julian chuckled quietly as he sat up.
"Finally."
"That kid took the bait."
His inner thoughts appeared again.
[You want to send the Scythe Division to kill me?]
[You little rat.]
[I’ve been waiting for you to make a move.]
Behind him, Lina’s hands froze.
Her eyes darkened slightly.
She knew exactly how terrifying the Scythe Division was.
Four assassins.
All powerful Old Martial Arts practitioners.
If the four of them attacked together—
Even she would struggle to survive.
Yet Julian seemed completely unconcerned.
Is he really planning to face them alone?
Is he insane?
Julian stood up and grabbed his jacket.
"I’m heading out."
Lina watched him walk toward the door.
Her heart tightened slightly.
She hesitated.
Then made a decision.
She stood up quietly.
I can’t let him walk into danger alone.
Even if Julian was a shameless, lazy, annoying young master...
She couldn’t allow him to fall into the hands of the Scythe Division.
---------
Outside the mansion, Julian stepped into the night air.
He wasn’t rushing.
With the Undestroyable Barrier Skill, the Scythe Division couldn’t actually hurt him.
Defense wasn’t the problem.
The problem was something else.
Julian sighed quietly.
"I have the meat."
"But no damage."
In other words—
He had defense.
But zero combat power.
Which meant one thing.
He needed someone else to do the fighting.
And he already had someone in mind.
