Chapter 58: The Beginning [3]
Chapter 58: The Beginning [3]
Azatoth remained in Pebbles’ arms as he carried him to one of the huts.
There was a continuous green glow around his body, and although he was a bit heavy, Pebbles didn’t complain.
Soon, they were inside, and three things came into view.
One: a pile of hay on which lay a few goblins.
Two: streams and drops of blood in a few places.
Three: a few goblins trying to tend to others.
They used some leaves and pressed them on the wounds, trying to cover them up.
As Pebbles came barging in, most turned towards him frantically.
They saw him carrying Azatoth in his arms. Some words instantly caught his attention.
"The savior...?"
A goblin who had a piercing wound in his abdomen pulled himself up and moved aside, making space for Azatoth.
A few others who were applying leaves and a strange green paste instantly stood up.
One almost rushed towards Pebbles, "Lord, the savior is...?"
Pebbles merely stared ahead, and the goblins made way.
He walked forward and placed Azatoth on the haystack while the Shaman continued to heal him.
While his severed arm hadn’t regenerated and his breath was still heavy, with many gasps in between, there were signs of improvement.
Many of the wounds in the patchy areas without scales had healed.
Above all, Azatoth seemed to be in much less pain.
Though he had fainted, his eyes and the muscles around them now seemed relaxed. Seeing this, Pebbles relaxed.
He sat down on the hard floor and sighed.
He raised his gaze towards the ceiling of the hut. There were long banana leaves that seemed fragile and did not do their job.
There were puddles of water everywhere that merged with pools of blood.
Pebbles could only stare... and stare... and stare at all the goblins until he finally recalled.
[Your pet Nightstone is severely poisoned!]
He pulled himself up almost immediately, almost stomping the ground.
It startled the patients, the handlers, and the Shaman, who now tried to cover everyone in the healing magic.
The Shaman peeked back, only a little, and found Pebbles right behind her.
"Eh? Master?"
"Nightstone! She is poisoned!"
"Eh?"
"Do-"
"Does anyone know where she-?" He paused.
The goblins turned their gazes left and right, but none seemed to know.
"Master, do you mean a Stone Spider?"
The green lizard asked.
He had just made an entrance into the hut.
Pebbles didn’t answer.
He could already feel Nightstone’s aura, but it seemed feeble and weak.
He turned around instantly and rushed out. The green lizard made sure to get out of the way.
Pebbles had exited, but the green lizard remained there. He now stared at the Shaman and the patients and then turned around.
"Come with me."
"I have wounded to look after." The Shaman gave a stern reply.
"..."
The green lizard paused for a few seconds and looked at the condition of the injured.
"I suggest you let them be and look after those who are in a worse condition. It’s better to prioritize the-"
"And I suggest you let me focus."
"..."
The green lizard turned around and placed one step out of the hut, and before the next step, he paused and said, "You can continue, but maybe our lord might need your assistance."
And then he exited.
The Shaman was sweating a lot as she continued her magic.
The wounded were grateful, extremely grateful, but they also knew that there were others who needed priority in treatment.
The Shaman’s trembling hand was gripped by a pair of warm hands.
Her eyes had been closed so far, so she hadn’t realized the woman approaching.
"M-my son, he took an attack head-on! Please save him..."
The Shaman stared directly into the eyes of the mother.
’She has severe bleeding from her head, and yet she...’
"Mine too!"
"My son..."
"My daughter was..."
"Miss Shaman, my brother..."
They were not those selfish, greedy, and despicable goblins portrayed in stories and taught to others.
To the Shaman, who had heard about pathetic goblins, she couldn’t help but feel that they were more humane than humans.
She felt a wave of disgust.
’Huh, why did I think about those despicable monsters...’
She turned around.
"I’m only going to aid my master."
She gave a peeking glance back.
"But if I find your sons or anyone else who is injured, then surely, I will do my best to heal them."
And then she left, after confirming that most of them were stable.
Soon after exiting, she turned left and then right, noticing how Pebbles had just entered the farthest hut.
She too turned right and began a small jog, which then turned into levitation as she increased her speed.
But along the way, she could hear cries of help, pain, and agony.
While none had died, they were on the verge of dying.
Some had wooden sticks impaled in them, others had rocks stuck in their chests, while most had suffered internal injuries like damage to organs and tissues by some sort of force.
She didn’t have time to find the cause or how it happened.
But she did make sure she could cast some healing magic along the way.
As she levitated above the huts, she pulled out strange orbs of green light directly from the crystal of her staff.
Then she threw the orbs above the huts, where they levitated.
The orbs rotated slowly, and each time they moved, tiny green sparkles fell from them.
These sparkles covered the huts and provided a small but sufficient amount of healing power that could stabilize the patients.
As for her, she arrived at the hut where Pebbles was only after hearing a scream.
"NIGHTSTONE!?"
She hurried inside after a clumsy landing where she almost hit her head on the ground.
And then she found Pebbles kneeling beside Nightstone, who lay on a haystack with leaves wrapped around her, while profuse purplish and green liquid oozed from her stony body.
"Nightstone... don’t die on me... don’t you dare die on me!!!"
Pebbles screamed, felt the Shaman arriving, and shouted once again, "QUICK!!!"
She rushed forward and this time enveloped Nightstone in a similar green glow, yet this time she poured almost all the mana she had left.
She continued to mumble a few words in a language hard to comprehend.
But Nightstone’s condition didn’t seem to improve.
Pebbles could only clutch one of her limbs, his worried expression hidden under the mask.
The green lizard thought it would be bad to intervene, but seeing how Nightstone’s condition didn’t improve, he decided to do so.
"Pardon me, Master, but she is poisoned."
"I KNOW!"
"...then a mere healing spell won’t help her. We need to detoxify..."
Pebbles turned his head quickly, only to find the green lizard holding a fruit.
The tree monster Kyurn had given it to him.
"Feed her this, Master. She will get better."
