Chapter 383: I might die
"Huh?"
Arthur had been standing inside the room a moment ago. Now, he found himself surrounded by darkness. It felt as though his body had been dragged across an immeasurable distance in a single instant, leaving him with no sense of how he had arrived here.
There was no denying in it, he was teleported. But how?
"Huh?"His gaze immediately settled on the retreating figure of the very cadet he had come to save. The young man was carrying Elena in his arms and moving farther into the darkness.
"Hey, wait!"
CLANG!
Arthur’s brows drew together as he looked down. A chain was wrapped around his leg.
He jerked against it, but the chain did not so much as groan beneath his strength. It remained perfectly still, as though it had not been fastened around his body at all, but anchored directly to his very existence.
"It’s no use. You can’t leave this place until you submit."
The sudden voice made Arthur’s expression harden. His senses had to be duller than he realized, because he had failed to notice the man approaching from his left.
The man had platinum-gold hair and a pair of golden eyes. He stood with his arms casually folded behind his back, staring directly at Arthur with an unsettling calm.
"So you’re the guy who was trying to harm Brother Blake."
Another voice came from Arthur’s right, this one feminine.
He turned and frowned even more deeply. It was not merely because of what she had said. He recognized her.
"You... You’re the Maylith Clan’s heiress." Arthur’s eyes narrowed. "Where are we? And what the hell is this supposed to mean?"
He could not shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong.
His sudden transportation from the headquarters to this strange place was unsettling enough. The darkness itself seemed almost alive, pressing against him with a weight that he could feel despite seeing nothing. Then there was this girl, who somehow knew about Blake.
"You’re one hell of a bastard, trying to kill someone for your little science project." Amanda’s voice dripped with contempt. "Pathetic asshole."
Her words confirmed it.
She knew about the clones.
More importantly, she knew that Blake was an important part of the entire project.
Arthur’s eyes sharpened.
"Who told you all this? Your commander?"
He should have dealt with that self-righteous woman long ago, the one who was always preaching about justice and righteousness as though either had any place in the world.
He had ordered Christopher to kill her once they had extracted her particles and used them to strengthen the clones.
But that old man...
Amanda faintly smirked.
"You really think you know everything, don’t you? You believe you’re the puppeteer, and everyone else is merely dancing to your tune." Her golden eyes narrowed. "But let me burst that little bubble of yours."
She approached him, her eyes filled with cold hatred.
"It wasn’t Veronica who informed us about your sick experiment. It was the same person who brought you here and whose brother you tried to harm."
Arthur’s eyes slowly widened as the realization struck him, but he immediately shook his head.
"No... Blake is an only child. He never had a brother."
Amanda nodded.
"Didn’t I tell you? You know nothing, Arthur. Absolutely nothing."
"You...!"
He lunged toward her, only to have another chain wrap around his hand, violently restricting his movement.
Arthur gritted his teeth and channeled his Genesis, forcing strength into his body as he tried to break free. The enhancement gave him a little more movement. The cuff around his wrist bent ever so slightly beneath the pressure, but then...
"Huh?"
His Genesis was snuffed out as effortlessly as a candle beneath a breath.
The strength drained from his body at once. His knees struck the ground, leaving him kneeling in helpless surrender.
Arthur’s eyes widened.
No matter how desperately he tried, he could not summon his Genesis again. It was not simply that he was unable to use it. A deep, instinctive fear stopped him from even trying.
It felt as though something was watching him.
Someone is definitely behind me...
His face turned pale, his entire body trembling as an unimaginable killing intent washed over him.
The strongest Nightwalker of Guhang resisted for seven seconds longer than Ethan had before his eyes rolled back and he collapsed.
Ethan merely stared down at him with cold indifference as flames began gathering around his hands.
Then, a voice resonated throughout the space.
"He is useful. Just break him."
Ethan immediately lowered his head and extinguished the flames.
"Understood, my lord."
Amanda had wanted nothing more than to beat the hell out of the man herself, but she had more important things on her mind.
She wanted to be with Kyle.
Somehow, she had a feeling that he was hurt.
...
"Whaaat?"
Amanda froze the moment she reached the room, her eyes widening at the sight before her.
A strange red-haired woman was clinging to her lover on the bed, and neither of them was wearing much.
This was the last thing she wanted to see upon reuniting with her lover after such a long time.
"Sit."
Kyle gestured toward a chair as it was pulled beside the bed.
"No, wait." Amanda pointed toward the woman, barely able to contain herself. "Why is a woman clinging to you? And who is she, anyway?"
The woman’s features reminded Amanda of someone she would rather not remember.
Ugh.
Kyle calmly said, "Wait a little. Veronica is arriving, so I’ll tell you both at the same time."
Amanda groaned.
"I can’t wait until then. Can’t you just push her away while we wait?"
She was barely restraining herself from tearing the woman away from Kyle and clinging to him herself.
But his next words instantly erased every thought in her mind.
"Amanda... if I push her away, I might die."
