Birthing Legends: My Womb Creates SSS Monsters

Chapter 294: Life Without Mother — Part 2.

Arach let out a long, heavy sigh, his six arms finally dropping completely to his sides as he accepted the apologies from Sephiran and Vermi. The thick tension in the chamber was finally starting to loosen up.

But just as the family was beginning to feel okay again... a sound echoed through the tunnels that made everyone instantly freeze.

It wasn't a gentle, welcoming call. It was a loud, booming roar that sounded less like a woman and more like a ravenous apex dinosaur marking its territory.

"DINNER IS READY! GET IN HERE BEFORE I DRAG YOU IN!"

The warmth completely drained from the room. The siblings exchanged wide-eyed, terrified glances. Suddenly, nobody felt okay anymore.

The issue lay heavily on the hive's current chore rotation. Dyralfa was technically a caretaker alongside Frovian, but because of her pride, she always insisted on handling the housekeeping—specifically, the cooking.

Having originated from a terrifying, high tier Alpha monster, she brought that intense, uncompromising "Alpha" energy into the kitchen. She refused to let anyone else touch the pots, but her culinary style was less about flavor and more about absolute survival.

To the rest of the siblings, eating anything Dyralfa cooked genuinely felt like it was going to be their last meal.

"Oh, great,"

Sephiran whispered, his face turning an asymmetric shade of pale as his stomach churned in advanced warning.

"It's her turn tonight."

"May Mother have mercy on our digestive tracts," Frovian muttered, his previous fiery attitude completely replaced by a sense of impending dread. "Last time she cooked, the soup was literally trying to dissolve the bowl."

Arach didn't say a word, but two of his upper arms instinctively crossed over his massive stomach in silent solidarity. Even the mighty apex hunter feared the kitchen. Beside his boots, Vermi let out a tragic, trembling whine, her newborn little limbs shaking as she looked back toward the safety of the dark tunnels, wishing she could just go back to eating raw, exploded cave bats.

"We can't keep her waiting," Sephiran groaned, dragging his feet forward like a prisoner walking the plank. "If we don't show up, she'll just hunt us down and force-feed us whatever monstrosity is bubbling in that pot."

Muttering prayers and complaints under their breath, the four siblings slowly began the long, agonizing walk toward the dining area, bracing themselves to face the deadliest challenge the hive had to offer: Dyralfa's cooking.

The four of them now sat rigidly around the heavy wooden dining table, their eyes wide with absolute bewilderment. In the center of the table sat a steaming dish that none of them could confidently classify as edible. It was bubbling in ways that defied physics, occasionally shifting colors under the dim bioluminescent light of the room. It was genuinely difficult to even look directly at it without feeling a sympathetic ache in their stomachs.

Frovian leaned forward, rubbing his temples in sheer disbelief. "Mother literally left us a month's supply—no, more than a month's supply of perfectly normal seasonings. But looking at this... I don't think a single grain of salt touched this pot. What did you even use as a base? Is that glowing?"

"I think the meat is still trying to crawl out of the gravy," Sephiran whispered, nudging a suspicious, twitching lump with the tip of his utensil.

Beside him, Vermi hid her face behind her tiny hands, refusing to look at the plate altogether, while Arach stared at his portion with the intense, calculating focus of a warrior trying to disarm a trap.

Dyralfa stood at the head of the table, completely unbothered by the chorus of silly comments and dramatic complaints echoing from her siblings. She crossed her arms, her sharp, alpha monster eyes gleaming with immense pride.

To her, taking charge of the kitchen and acting like the matriarch of the household was her absolute proudest, most wanted moment. She lived to serve her family, even if her definition of a "home cooked meal" resembled a hazardous bio-weapon.

Before anyone could make an excuse to leave, Dyralfa's gaze snapped toward the upper corners of the room.

"Soltis! Noctis!" she barked, her voice echoing with unmistakable authority. "Get down here right now! Being intangible does not exempt you from family dinner!"

From the shadows of the ceiling, the two ghost twins materialized, looking incredibly annoyed. They usually loved floating above the drama, but one look at Dyralfa's stern expression told them that resisting her would end poorly. Slumping their shoulders, Soltis and Noctis drifted downward, begrudgingly taking their seats at the table alongside the others.

With the entire family now gathered and trapped under Dyralfa's watchful, proud gaze, Sephiran raised his glass with a trembling hand, giving his siblings a look of mutual, tragic solidarity.

Meanwhile, far away from the chaotic dinner table of the hive, Maddy was sitting quietly in her cozy room at the local inn.

In front of her sat a perfectly normal, classic fantasy tavern dinner—a hot bowl of savory stew, a thick slice of freshly baked crusty bread, and a small slab of roasted meat. It was simple, comforting, and tasted exactly like home.

As she picked up her utensil, Maddy looked out the window and let her mind wander back to her children in the caves. A warm, thoroughly deluded daydream began to play out in her head.

"I left them so many incredible seasonings and with all those pre marinated, meticulously prepared meats I kept stored in the reserves... oh, dinner back at the hive must be absolutely divine right now."

In her mind's eye, she envisioned a picture perfect, five star restaurant scene. She imagined Arach elegantly using his upper arms to serve beautifully plated, gourmet culinary masterpieces. She imagined Sephiran and Frovian sitting politely, exchanging sophisticated compliments over the perfect balance of spices, while little Vermi neatly used her tiny new hands to delicately bite into a perfectly seasoned, seared cut of high-grade monster fillet. She even imagined the ghost twins floating gracefully, shedding tears of pure joy over the culinary masterpiece their family was sharing.

"Yes," Maddy sighed happily, taking a bite of her inn dinner. "They are definitely eating like royalty tonight. I really am an excellent provider."

Of course, she had absolutely no idea that back home, her children were currently staring down a colorful, twitching bio hazard of a meal, praying for their literal survival under Dyralfa's terrifying, proud gaze.
