Chapter 129: Five Rules
"Rule number three...no matter what happens, protect yourself first." This one Lizzie said it so seriously I also changed my expression.
"You don’t have to remind me. I will definitely protect myself well." This was not negotiable.
So, even without saying it, I would still follow this rule. Wasn’t this the reason I left the Night Claw Pack in the first place?
"That’s good. Now, rule number four, no emotional attachments that can be used against you." Hearing this, I knew that Lizzie was worried that another Karl situation would happen.
However, I wasn’t that naive anymore.
So, I immediately agreed.
"Don’t worry. Such a situation would never happen again."
As I said this, a face flashed in my mind but I quickly shook my head to clear it.
Even though we had a mate bond, I would never let him use it against me.
I would rather sever that bond instead.
"The final rule...never go back."
The mention of going back made the atmosphere heavy instantly.
This was the most important rule.
Never going back.
After everything that had happened to me there, I had no plans of going back. But I didn’t know if others would let me live peacefully.
"Alright, that’s all for now. Get some rest. You have work to do tomorrow." Lizzie urged me to sleep.
I wanted to ask about her. Today, I finally saw the color of my wolf.
It was completely white with a faint outline of a crown on the forehead. I had caught a glimpse of it when I was shifting back to my human form in the window glass.
However, seeing that Lizzie said nothing about it, I knew she didn’t want to talk about it.
So, I forced myself to empty my thoughts and go to sleep.
I opened my eyes slowly, staring at the unfamiliar ceiling for a moment before everything came rushing back.
This was my first morning out of the pack since my parents died.
I remember that when I was very young, my father would take me to visit some other packs or go camping outside the pack territory.
It was one of my few favorite things to do.
However, since my parents died, I was never allowed to even get close to the pack boundary.
Now that I had broken out of that cage, I felt that even the morning chill wasn’t so cold anymore.
A faint smile touched my lips as I sat up, pulling the blanket aside.
I went through my closet for a suitable outfit and picked a regular sports wear.
Once I was dressed, I exited my bedroom and once again was awed by my own house.
Just looking around made me happy.
I walked out the front door and headed towards the forest.
I didn’t have a large training ground like in the pack, but I could just use the forest as a training space.
I ran until my lungs almost gave out before turning around and going back.
Even though I had been training for a couple of months now, my stamina was still not up to par.
However, I had plenty of time to train and reach my peak.
For now, however, I needed to go to the training room in the house and do some more work on my body.
In the training room, the equipment there was perfect for me to build my strength.
So I did weight-lifting and other exercises.
An hour later, I went back to my bedroom for a shower and a change of clothes.
I then headed to the kitchen to make a heavy breakfast before going to my office.
I had work to do.
Sitting on my desk, I powered up my computer and scoured the internet for the best supplier of security system devices.
First, I selected what I believed to be the most advanced motion sensors that could detect the smallest disturbance but wouldn’t be triggered by small animals.
This was perfect for me because I needed some in the forest surrounding my property.
The second thing I ordered was thermal detectors.
Some trackers were good at their job and might fail to trigger the motion sensors, but if I had thermal detectors, they couldn’t hide because they couldn’t turn their blood cold.
The third thing on my security system list was visual surveillance.
I ordered a bunch of hidden cameras. The kind that could be disguised and hidden in plain sight and still wouldn’t be discovered.
Unless one knew where to look, they couldn’t find them.
After everything was ordered on express delivery, I got back to working on my system.
I needed to tweak a few things before the patent was approved and the company was up and running.
I spent the whole morning working until midday when hunger called me out of my desk.
After cooking a light lunch, I was about to go back to work when I heard a car driving through my private road leading to my house.
I immediately left the house and just as I reached outside, a small pick-up car parked outside.
Someone got down from the driver’s seat and walked up to me.
"Hello, you must be Miss Jude. I am here for your express delivery." He introduced himself and I was surprised by how quickly the things I ordered that morning were delivered.
"Thanks."
The delivery man had me sign the receipt before he took everything down from the pick-up truck and left.
I carried everything inside and sorted them out before placing them in several piles.
I decided to start on installing the devices myself because if I had someone else do it, then they would know where every camera or motion sensor, and thermal detectors are.
I moved through the land carefully, carrying equipment and tools.
I placed every device intentionally in places no one would think of.
Motion sensors were installed at strategic intervals. Far enough to cover ground, but close enough to overlap with each other.
