Even the members at headquarters knew of Shen Bai.

They were also quite curious about what he was actually like.

Now, seeing him in person, many felt he was even more handsome than his portrait suggested.

Shen Bai nodded in agreement and, without further ado, started up the stairs toward the top floor of the Observatory.

The building was tall. With each floor he ascended, Shen Bai could feel numerous gazes passing through layers of obstacles to look at him.

These gazes were filled with curiosity, but they were polite. They would glance at him for only a moment before quietly looking away.

This place might have looked like an ordinary tall building, but it was teeming with experts, and its defenses were astounding.

The only reason Shen Bai could pass through unimpeded was because he was Shen Bai, the Prefecture Chief of Nanxing Prefecture.

When Shen Bai reached the top floor, he saw that the door to the largest room was wide open.

He didn’t hesitate, taking a few steps forward and crossing the threshold.

The moment he stepped through the door, Shen Bai froze.

He saw a middle-aged man with his hands clasped behind his back, leaning against the railing outside the tower and gazing at the scenery, leaving Shen Bai with only the view of his back, which radiated an imposing aura.

A light breeze blew past, yet the middle-aged man’s clothes didn’t shift in the slightest. They remained perfectly straight and unwrinkled.

Shen Bai was about to speak when the middle-aged man turned to look at him and said, "Your pant leg is a bit crooked. Straighten it."

Shen Bai could see the man’s brow was tightly furrowed, as if he were in great discomfort.

He understood instantly.

’This isn’t him giving me a hard time. The man seems to have obsessive-compulsive disorder.’

Once this thought occurred to him, Shen Bai felt an urge to test his theory.

He tried smoothing out the crease on his left pant leg, then, feigning carelessness, he put a new wrinkle on his right shoe.

When Shen Bai looked up, he saw the middle-aged man had already approached and used a gust of palm wind to smooth out the wrinkle on his shoe.

"As a member of the Observatory, you must pay attention to detail, especially your appearance. Be meticulous."

Shen Bai finally knew his guess was correct.

’No wonder the wind on this high floor couldn’t muss the middle-aged man’s clothes. The guy used a special ability to hold them in place.’

Shen Bai cupped his fist and said, "Greetings, Director-General."

As he spoke, he glanced at the surrounding furnishings and noticed that every single one was placed with perfect symmetry.

The Director-General nodded, then found a seat and sat down. He pointed to a chair that was perfectly aligned with his own and said, "Have a seat. I’ve been wanting to meet you, and now I finally have the chance."

Shen Bai was not the least bit reserved and sat down casually.

The Director-General sized Shen Bai up from head to toe. After a moment, he said, "Good. Neither arrogant nor rash, and not overly restrained."

"I once met a young genius who acted timid and fearful in my presence."

"His strength was exceptional, but his temperament was lacking. Young people should have the vigor of youth. If you’re not full of spirit, you’re not young. You are very good."

Every word was lavish with praise for Shen Bai. The Director-General didn’t bother to hide his admiration in the slightest.

Shen Bai placed his left hand on the table, preparing to speak.

But the Director-General’s mouth twitched slightly. "Place both hands on the table," he said. "That won’t do."

Shen Bai understood. ’It’s this damn OCD again.’

He then placed both hands on the table and said, "Director-General, on my way here, I encountered people from the Wild Taoist Sect and the Wild Buddha Sect, so I killed them all. Oh, right, there were quite a few people from Xinhua Academy as well."

He had come here specifically to report these matters, so he got straight to the point.

Shen Bai didn’t try to hide it. He nodded and said, "I am going to the Imperial Palace to speak with Eunuch Chen for a while. Does the Director-General have any message you’d like me to pass on to him?"

It was just an offhand remark. He had only said it casually. After all, given the similar status of the Director-General and Eunuch Chen, they could have anyone carry a message.

Who would have thought that as soon as he said it, the Director-General would actually agree.

Shen Bai found it difficult to answer and could only change the subject. "I wonder which young prodigy could possibly have earned the favor of both the Director-General and Eunuch Chen."

He just wanted to change the topic and not continue the awkward conversation.

The Director-General just stared at him blankly.

Just then, the sound of footsteps suddenly rang out.

The white-haired Eunuch Chen strode in with his hands clasped behind his back. "Old scoundrel, you dare speak ill of me? Did you really think I’m afraid of you?"
