Chapter 561 - 188: The Entire City, the Illusion Technique Approaches
"Another one of those mind-bewitching abilities. But you can’t even get past my defenses."
Shen Bai extended his left hand. Golden Buddha’s Light flared from his palm, cutting through the dense fog and locking with unerring precision around the Courtesan’s neck.
The next moment, the Courtesan’s entire body trembled violently, her eyes filled with despair.
"You may be in the Void Realm, but your abilities don’t seem geared toward combat. They’re more like underhanded tricks, or perhaps a support-type skill," Shen Bai said coolly.
With Shen Bai’s hand around her neck, the Courtesan’s voice held a pleading tone. "Please, Sir, take me out of here. I really want to leave. Once we’re out, I’ll give you anything. I can bring you unimaginable pleasure."
Shen Bai shook his head. "That’s not entirely out of the question."
The Courtesan froze for a moment, not understanding what Shen Bai meant.
Before Shen Bai’s eyes, the threads of his Divination Divine Power wove together.
Shen Bai was divining the Fortune and Misfortune of taking the Courtesan with him.
The result was overwhelmingly auspicious.
But if he *didn’t* take her, the threads turned black, radiating an intensely ominous aura.
’The Courtesan is weaker than me, and I have her completely under my control. I could kill her right now. So why is the omen for leaving her behind so dire?’ Shen Bai wondered.
But his Divination Divine Power would not deceive him.
With this in mind, Shen Bai decided he really would try taking the Courtesan with him.
Hearing Shen Bai’s words, the hope in the Courtesan’s eyes burned brighter. "Sir, getting out is simple. We can’t escape through that forest on our own—it seems to contain some kind of disorienting power. But you’re different. As long as you take me with you, I’m certain we can make it out."
Shen Bai nodded. "I’m curious to see what happens when we leave the forest. Let’s go. Right now."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Shen Bai started walking toward the exit, his hand still clamped around the Courtesan’s neck.
The Courtesan’s face paled in alarm. "Sir, there are countless soldiers on guard outside! We can’t be so reckless."
She didn’t get to finish her sentence, because a terrifying light erupted from Shen Bai’s body.
The light flared and then vanished just as quickly.
Shadows wrapped around both him and the Courtesan, and their presence began to rapidly fade.
’No need to waste time. Since the Divination Divine Power indicated that taking the Courtesan out was overwhelmingly auspicious, I’ll just leave directly.’
’Be decisive. It’ll be fine.’
Then, Shen Bai activated Divine Thousand Miles, transforming into a terrifying streak of light that vanished over the horizon.
The Speed of Divine Thousand Miles was incredible.
In the blink of an eye, Shen Bai had already carried the Courtesan out of Ruo Shui City.
Ahead lay a dense, sprawling forest. At its far edge was the same river Shen Bai had used to enter.
The Courtesan gazed at the distant river, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
Although she didn’t know how Shen Bai had avoided being seen by the soldiers, she knew one thing: she was finally getting out of Ruo Shui City.
’If I can just get out this one time, I’d be willing to die.’
The Courtesan clenched her pale fists, the excitement in her eyes growing more intense.
Shen Bai frowned.
At his Speed, crossing this forest should have taken but an instant.
But just as he was about to leave the forest, he noticed something was wrong.
The closer they got to the edge of the forest, the weaker the Courtesan’s aura became.
By the time he was less than a thousand feet from the forest’s edge, the Courtesan’s life force had grown incredibly faint.
Shen Bai stopped in mid-air and turned to look at the Courtesan.
An aura of decay was now emanating from her entire body, yet she seemed completely unaware of it.
When she noticed Shen Bai’s gaze, she gave him a puzzled look.
"Sir, why are you looking at me like that? We have to hurry and get out, or the pursuers will be on us! If that happens, not only will I be trapped, but you’ll be stuck here too."
Shen Bai shook his head. "I have a feeling you could die at any moment."
The Courtesan stared, baffled. "Sir, what are you talking about? I’m perfectly fine. I feel full of energy. How could I be dying?"
Shen Bai’s frown deepened.
Just then, Red Makeup’s voice sounded in Shen Bai’s mind.
"Master, something’s wrong. The farther she gets from the forest, the weaker the aura of Ten Thousand Cities on her becomes. Right now, she seems like an ordinary person."
Shen Bai could feel it too, even without Red Makeup’s warning.
The Courtesan, however, kept urging him on. "Sir, please, let’s hurry! I’m really fine. Even if I have to die, I want to die out there. I refuse to be a caged bird any longer!"
Shen Bai snapped out of his thoughts and considered for a moment.
’I’m rather curious to see just what will happen after we leave this forest.’
With that thought, Shen Bai no longer hesitated. He became a streak of light, carrying the Courtesan toward the edge of the forest ahead.
For Shen Bai, the final thousand feet was but the blink of an eye.
As Shen Bai crossed the forest’s boundary, he suddenly felt the weight in his hand lighten.
He immediately looked down at his left hand and saw that the Courtesan he was holding was now covered in cracks.
’What’s happening?’
Shen Bai landed on the ground and released his grip.
The Courtesan collapsed to the ground. Using both her hands, she began to crawl forward, a desperate struggle in her eyes. "I’m out... I’m out... I’m almost out..."
She muttered to herself, but the cracks on her body continued to multiply.
After a few breaths, the Courtesan’s pale skin turned sallow, and the scent of soil began to emanate from her body.
Then, her movements grew stiff until she became a figure of clay.
The cracks shattered, and the clay figure collapsed, crumbling into a pile of dirt on the ground.
Shen Bai could no longer sense the Courtesan’s presence.
