Before him, a field of ash.

Shen Bai sheathed his sword. He watched as twelve wisps of Evil Qi floated in the smoky air.

With a thought, all twelve wisps of Evil Qi were drawn into his body and vanished.

Red Makeup nodded lightly and led the way.

Although the others didn’t know how Shen Bai was so well-informed, they all followed him silently.

Sticking with Lord Shen was the right move. It was perfectly safe.

Before long, the group had left the street and vanished at its end.

The street was a ruin. As a light breeze blew past, nothing remained.

Red Makeup led the group without pause, winding through several streets before finally arriving at an open square.

The square was wide and empty. There was nothing there.

Shen Bai frowned. "This is where your father is?"

All he could see was a disc-shaped object in the center, carved with intricate patterns.

Other than that, there was nothing.

If someone had told him there was a monster here, Shen Bai wouldn’t have believed it at first glance.

Red Makeup nodded lightly. She extended a pale finger, pointed at the disc on the ground, and said, "This leads underground."

Shen Bai stroked his chin. "Are you saying that Sunset City originally had an underground Space?"

Red Makeup nodded lightly. "That’s right. When my father was alive, he planned extensively for Sunset City."

"He knew Sunset City had made many enemies, so he planned an escape route for it."

"If we ever faced an enemy we absolutely could not resist, we would activate the Array, retreat underground, and then seal the entrance with another Array."

Shen Bai said, "He certainly thought of everything."

It seemed normal enough to Shen Bai that a City Lord from that era would have such plans.

Red Makeup walked to the center of the disc. "After my father and Sunset City became what they are now, he died underground. So that’s where he is, in the Space below."

"I know how to open it."

As she spoke, Red Makeup raised her index and middle fingers, forming a sword-finger sign.

With her fingers raised, Red Makeup immediately began chanting a Technique.

Shen Bai gripped the hilt of Cold Moon, waiting patiently.

But what followed was silence. There wasn’t the slightest stir.

Shen Bai frowned. "What’s wrong?"

He couldn’t even sense the aura of a monster. Something was very wrong.

A look of shock appeared on Red Makeup’s face. She looked down at her fingers and took a step back.

Shen Bai caught her unusual expression and movement.

Shen Bai asked, "Don’t tell me you can’t open this disc and get underground."

Other than that, Shen Bai couldn’t think of any other reason for her expression.

Red Makeup looked back, her eyes filled with disbelief. "It’s changed. Everything has changed."

"This is wrong. When I was alive, none of this would have been altered. Changing it would have required an immense amount of manpower and resources."

"My father wouldn’t have changed this place. How could this be?"

Just a moment ago, she had tried to activate the Array, but there had been no response at all.

Red Makeup’s heart filled with despair.

If she couldn’t activate the Array, she couldn’t enter the underground Space.

If she couldn’t get into the underground Space, she wouldn’t be able to find her father who had become a monster, and she would never be free.

All her previous plans were nothing but a beautiful illusion, empty talk.

"Lord Shen, it must be that after the Sunset City Lord turned into a monster, everything, including the Mysterious City itself, was changed," Yao Long said.

As a member of the Observatory, he naturally had knowledge in this area.
