Chapter 643: So Many Toads
Vivian Yates’s heart dropped as if a bomb had gone off, and her mind started to buzz.
"Mmph, mmph—"
She struggled desperately but couldn’t make a sound. The person had a death grip on her mouth, dragging her in the opposite direction.
Her assailant was likely a man; she could feel the explosive power in his muscles and his immense strength.
She didn’t know how long they dragged her, but just as Vivian Yates felt she was about to suffocate, her assailant abruptly threw her down.
Like a fish thrown back into water, she greedily sucked in lungfuls of oxygen, her breaths coming in loud, heavy pants.
After a moment, once her breathing had settled, she suddenly realized she was steeped in pitch-black darkness.
She propped herself up on her hands, feeling nothing but sand and dirt beneath her.
’Where am I? Is anyone there?’
’Why did that person grab me? Or rather, who sent him?’
The first person Vivian Yates thought of was Ashley Grant!
She hadn’t forgotten the things Ashley had said to Xylas Shepherd earlier today.
No wonder Xylas Shepherd had conveniently forgotten something and turned back. It was clear now this was all part of Ashley’s plan; she wanted her to be isolated and helpless.
And Xylas Shepherd had fallen for her trick to lure the tiger away from the mountain!
’But what good was figuring all this out now?!’
A chilling wind blew in gusts. A thousand questions flooded Vivian Yates’s mind as she looked around, but all she could see was darkness.
Suddenly, a gust of wind parted the clouds, and a sliver of moon peeked through.
A flicker of hope ignited in her. Using the faint moonlight, she pushed herself up from the ground and quickly scanned her surroundings.
As she stood there, trembling and scanning her surroundings, she suddenly felt something crawling up her body.
Vivian Yates froze, her body going rigid. She slowly lowered her head and saw a massive black spider perched right on her chest!
Its legs were extraordinarily long and thick, and its body was enormous.
Yes, just like one of those giant spiders from a tropical rainforest—the kind as big as a grown man’s palm!
’What would a giant rainforest spider be doing in a place like this?’
Before Vivian Yates could process another thought, the huge spider deftly scrambled up onto her face!
"AHHH!"
Her heart leaped into her throat. She screamed, viciously swatting the spider away and, in her panic, slapping herself hard across the face several times.
After knocking the spider away, Vivian Yates took off running for her life. She had no idea how long or how far she ran, but when she finally stopped, she found herself at the edge of an enormous pond.
"CROAK, CROAK CROAK—"
So many toads!
They were yellow, green, and gray—fleshy things with backs covered in bumpy, warty bubbles. Absolutely terrifying!
As a white-collar city girl, Vivian Yates had, of course, never seen creatures like this before; to her, they were all just frogs or toads.
In truth, there were toads, frogs, bullfrogs, and more among them, but she couldn’t have named them.
Comparisons are truly maddening.
When Annabelle Linton had been framed by Vivian and thrown into the remote wilderness, she’d had to deal with her claustrophobia, but upon seeing big spiders and the like, she had found tools, caught a few, and taken them back to use in medicine.
Toads, after all, are a precious ingredient in traditional medicine.
And in an ironic twist of fate, her claustrophobia was even cured by the experience!
Vivian Yates’s face was white with terror. She snapped back to her senses and turned to run.
A horde of toads began to chase her, and five or six of them even leaped onto her body!
"Get off! Get off me!"
"Get off me! AHH—"
As she ran, she suddenly lost her footing and tumbled into a massive pit.
Vivian Yates passed out. At the same time, the dozens of toads that had fallen in with her began crawling and hopping all over her unconscious body...
