Chapter 635: Get Out, OK? 11
Vivian Yates felt as if a herd of ten thousand alpacas was stampeding through her mind!
Her body plunged downwards, out of control. The sensation was like her soul being ripped from its vessel, her heart hammering erratically in her chest.
Her mind went blank, her heart felt hollow. She didn’t know what to do besides scream.
"AH! HELP!"
Vivian Yates’s hysterical screams echoed all around, while Ashley Grant grinned from ear to ear.
"BWAHAHAHAHAHA..."
’This is so damn funny!’
’An Annabelle Ainsworth, are you?’
’Bring it on. And don’t think I’m going to hold back just because you’re my sister-in-law’s sister!’
’I specialize in dealing with homewreckers and two-faced girls. Be as clever as you like, throw whatever tantrums you want. It’ll all end with one kick.’
When Xylas Shepherd heard the scream, a sense of foreboding immediately washed over him.
He scrambled up to the mountaintop. After a long run, he saw Ashley Grant bent over with laughter just as the staff were helping a pale-faced Vivian Yates back up. A pang shot through his heart, and he instinctively pulled Vivian into a hug.
Vivian Yates collapsed into his arms and began to sob, clearly terrified.
Seeing Xylas Shepherd actually holding her, Ashley’s anger flared. "Shepherd, do you have any idea what you’re doing? Let her go! Has this woman bewitched you too?!"
Xylas looked at the woman sobbing silently in his arms, and his heart ached for her. "Ashley, why do you have to be like this? She’s your sister-in-law’s sister, after all. She wouldn’t be living with your family if she weren’t in some kind of trouble. You can’t treat her this way."
"Living with us?" Ashley scoffed. "How long have you even known her? What makes you so sure she’s in some kind of trouble?"
"I..."
"Shepherd, get a clue! How would you know so much about her if she wasn’t feeding you a sob story? Don’t let yourself be used as her pawn without even realizing it!"
"I-I didn’t..." Vivian Yates choked out between sobs. "Miss Grant, I know you don’t like me, but I swear I’ve never done anything to hurt anyone or betray my own conscience. I really don’t understand why you’re so determined to target me..."
’God, what an act. The more I look, the faker she seems. It’s disgusting!’
"Heh." A corner of Ashley’s mouth lifted into a smirk. "Right, you haven’t done anything wrong. But what if I just plain don’t like you? Is that okay? If you have nowhere to live, nothing to eat or drink, fine. I, Ashley Grant, will support you. On one condition: you get the hell out. Okay?"
Vivian Yates gave her a wounded look, tears streaming silently down her face.
Seeing her turn on the waterworks, Ashley sneered and turned to walk away. "Don’t assume everyone is an idiot, and don’t think you can just walk all over people. I’ve said what I needed to say. What you do now is your business. As for you, Shepherd..."
Ashley glanced back at him and let out a short, wry laugh. She had been about to say something, but in the end, she said nothing at all.
’She’d already said everything that needed to be said. If Xylas had half a brain, he’d understand her meaning. If he didn’t, she could repeat herself ten thousand times and he still wouldn’t get it.’
Xylas Shepherd looked at Vivian Yates with a complicated expression.
’He knew Ashley. She wouldn’t make baseless accusations. She might seem wild and rebellious, but she was actually incredibly perceptive.’
’But Annabelle Ainsworth... He couldn’t believe she was the scheming type, either.’
’It was a complete accident when he ran into her that day.’
Xylas pursed his lips, thinking. ’Could it be... because Annabelle Ainsworth was supposed to marry Leona Grant a while back, Ashley automatically labeled her a homewrecker...?’
’But when he’d checked Annabelle’s file, it clearly said that the sister-in-law was leaving, and that Leona was then supposed to find a substitute for herself...’
’He knew that there was nothing Leona set her mind to that she couldn’t achieve.’
’When he thought about it that way, Annabelle Ainsworth seemed quite pitiful, too...’
