Remarriage Failed Again Today

Chapter 627: Get Out, OK? 3

Vivian Yates had never been so insulted by a servant—except for Chase Lynch, of course...

One day, she got into an argument with a maid. Unsure if the maid had been put up to it by someone, Vivian ended up in a physical fight with her, but no one came to her aid.

Vivian Yates suddenly felt a deep sense of despair. ’And it was all my own fault...’

She ran out crying and walked along the road for a long, long time.

The sky was overcast, and her frail figure looked so helpless and pitiful.

Lost in her thoughts, Vivian Yates walked on, completely unaware that she had wandered into the middle of the road.

"HONK—"

A car sped toward her. By the time she belatedly realized what was happening, it had already hit her.

She collapsed in front of the car.

Xylas Shepherd quickly got out of the car and looked at the person on the ground, his heart lurching in shock.

’Isn’t that Annabelle Ainsworth?’

He frowned as he looked down at her. Her head was bleeding, and she had already passed out.

Her expression was so fragile and helpless; even in unconsciousness, her face was drawn and haggard.

Her haggard appearance overlapped with the image he held in his memory... A flicker of pity crossed Xylas Shepherd’s eyes, and he took her to the hospital.

At the hospital, a doctor stitched up her wound and bandaged it. By the time everything was done, she still hadn’t woken up.

Xylas Shepherd sat by her bedside, his gaze deep and complex as he watched her. A faint, dazed look flickered in his eyes.

In a distant yesterday, he and Annabelle Ainsworth had been desk-mates for six years...

They were like best friends, always there for each other. They shared their joys and sorrows, snacked together, and were so happy.

Back then, they were inseparable. What he didn’t realize at the time was that he had grown accustomed to her presence, accustomed to being with her. But then she left, went abroad, and never came back...

Remembering those times, Xylas Shepherd smiled. He gently tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and propped his head on his hand, watching her.

Four hours later, Vivian Yates woke up.

The smell of antiseptic filled her nostrils. She stared at the ceiling above her, feeling disoriented.

When she finally managed to pry her drowsy eyes open, a handsome face, magnified and up close, startled her.

It was a man’s face. She recognized him: Xylas Shepherd.

But it wasn’t Leona Grant...

Disappointed, Vivian Yates pulled out her IV needle, put on her shoes, and started to walk out. Xylas Shepherd blocked her way, teasing, "Hey, old classmate, leaving just like that?"

’Old classmate?’

Vivian Yates had no idea what he was talking about. ’Is he an idiot? We weren’t even in the same class, okay?’

She said faintly, "Did you save me? Thank you."

After speaking, she tried to leave.

Xylas Shepherd wouldn’t let her go. He playfully lifted her chin with his finger and gave her a roguish smile. "Not bad. A girl really does change as she grows up. You’ve gotten more and more beautiful."

Hearing this, Vivian Yates remembered. ’Right, I’m supposed to be Annabelle Ainsworth now.’

Annabelle Ainsworth and Xylas Shepherd had been desk-mates for six years. They had been close back then. If Annabelle hadn’t fallen for Leona Grant, she probably wouldn’t have gone abroad...

As this thought crossed her mind, Vivian Yates looked at Xylas Shepherd.

She and Xylas had practically grown up together. He was the kind, simple-hearted type and was on good terms with both Leona Grant and Nathaniel Locke.

’...I’ve been living at the villa for so many days and haven’t gotten close to Leona Grant at all. But if I can get Xylas hooked... there might be plenty of opportunities...’

A glint flashed in Vivian Yates’s eyes. She took two steps forward, then pretended to be unsteady on her feet, as if she were about to fall.

Seeing her about to collapse, Xylas Shepherd swiftly caught her.
