Remarriage Failed Again Today

Chapter 250 - 249: No Clues

Leona was startled and quickly let go of her hand.

Annabelle frowned deeply again, then opened her hazy eyes.

But the moment she opened them, her gaze met Leona’s deep, dark eyes.

Their eyes locked.

’What a terrible feeling, seeing him the moment I wake up.’

Annabelle coolly averted her gaze and pushed herself up, feeling a sharp pain in her calf.

"You’re awake?" Leona asked tentatively, watching her.

Annabelle didn’t speak. She pinched the bridge of her nose, still trying to process the situation.

But the moment she did, she felt a pain in her forehead as well.

She casually tugged at the bandage on her forehead and pulled it off.

She glanced at the blood on the gauze, then at her surroundings, and pursed her lips in disinterest.

’I’ve had such bad luck. Always ending up in this damn place. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been here since I was reborn. It’s so damn annoying.’

Annabelle, annoyed, yanked the IV needle from her hand and prepared to get out of bed.

In the time she’d been awake, aside from that one accidental glance, her eyes hadn’t landed on him once.

A pang of pain shot through Leona’s heart.

He pursed his lips, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly. "How... are you feeling now? Do you need me to call a doctor to check on you?"

"No need," Annabelle uttered coolly, clearly not wanting to speak.

Then she put her feet on the floor, searching for her shoes.

But the moment her foot touched the ground, her vision went black from the pain, and she nearly collapsed.

Leona quickly steadied Annabelle.

Annabelle glanced at the wound on her leg, which was already starting to seep blood from her movement.

Only then did she remember everything from Hell’s Island. It had all happened so suddenly that day; she didn’t even know how she had gotten home safely.

Seeing her frown in thought, Leona said, "The snake venom has been cleared out. The doctor said you’ll be fine, but your leg will need to rest for a while."

"Do Grandpa and the others know I’m in the hospital?"

Annabelle pushed him away, got back on the bed, and began to unwind the gauze wrapped around her leg, layer by layer.

The flesh underneath was a bloody mess and still bleeding.

Leona watched as she ripped off the innermost layer of gauze without even blinking, then took the disinfectant from the cart and sterilized the wound.

Then she cleaned it with a cotton swab, sprinkled a ring of white medicinal powder over it, and re-wrapped it with fresh bandages.

Throughout the entire process, she showed not a hint of self-pity, her expression blank, her brows unfurrowed.

Leona’s throat bobbed slightly.

’He wished she didn’t have to be so strong.’

After re-wrapping the bandage, Annabelle looked at him coolly.

Only then did Leona remember to answer her question.

He pursed his lips. "They already know. It was impossible to hide. I told them you were bitten by a snake while we were traveling together."

"Has the investigation into what happened that day turned up anything?"

Leona’s lips thinned, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. "No. The island was blown up after we left. There’s nowhere to start, not a single clue."

Hearing this, Annabelle’s expression also grew grim.

’It was obvious someone was trying to kill witnesses and erase all traces, to prevent them from finding out anything.’

’Who could it be?’

"Mm," Annabelle hummed indifferently. She lay back down with her back to Leona, leaving him with a cold, distant view.

Seeing that she didn’t want to talk to him anymore, Leona took the hint and didn’t press his luck. He closed the door and left the hospital room.

He then called for a servant to bring Annabelle a meal and did not disturb her again.

Annabelle stayed in the hospital for another three days. She checked out as soon as she could walk on her own.

Afterward, she went to the old manor.
