Chapter 246 - 245: Beset with Crises 6
Leona Grant didn’t answer Annabelle Linton, saying instead, "Do you know what decision I was about to tell you?"
"Shut up! Let me go!" Annabelle Linton already had a good idea of what was coming.
"Annabelle Linton, what I wanted to tell you before was... if we made it out of here safely, I would have cherished you and made you fall in love with me again. But there’s no time for that now. In our next life, we will be together forever. Understand?"
Without waiting for Annabelle Linton to agree, he released her and pressed a kiss to the space between her eyebrows.
Then he took out the bottle of medicine, twisted off the cap, and raised it to his lips, ready to drink.
SMACK—
Just as Leona Grant was about to drink, Annabelle Linton knocked the bottle to the ground.
Leona Grant looked at the bottle. Most of it had spilled, but there was still a little left.
He scrambled to pick it up.
Seeing his movement, Annabelle Linton snatched up the vial, poured out the remaining liquid, and then violently smashed the bottle on the ground.
The bottle shattered into pieces.
"What are you doing!" Leona Grant glared at Annabelle Linton. "Do you have any idea what you’ve done? You’ll die, don’t you understand?!"
Annabelle Linton stared at him, her voice cold. "And you? Were you planning to drink that and let me walk out of here alone?"
Leona Grant’s lips tightened. ’That was exactly the idea.’ "But now you’ve destroyed it!"
"Leona Grant, stop being so naive, will you? My fate is in my own hands. I hate this feeling of being controlled, and I hate being forced into things. You really believe that nonsense about some medicine being able to save me?"
"But it was the only way! I can’t let you die!"
"Then I don’t need you to save me! Trading your life for mine... are you trying to make it so I can never live in peace?! I, Annabelle Linton, don’t need you to rescue me! Not even if I have to die! Do you understand?!"
"Annabelle Linton, why are you so stubborn!"
"Because I don’t want to owe you anything!"
’The one thing in this life you can never truly repay is a personal debt. She wouldn’t owe anyone anything!’
Hearing this, Leona Grant’s expression changed drastically.
’He hated how she always drew such a clear line between them!’
"Annabelle Linton, so what if you owe me? It’s my choice!"
"But I don’t need you to!"
’Leona Grant, are you trying to pay for the hurt you caused me with your life?’
’You’re the one who killed me. Did you really think you could clear that debt so easily?’
’And what about all the pain you caused me?!’
As they argued, a heavy pounding sound came from the guillotine up ahead.
Faint shouts could be heard from outside the door.
Annabelle Linton froze for a second, then rushed to pull the chain.
The moment she pulled it, Xylas Shepherd and Nathaniel Locke burst in.
"Annabelle, drop the guillotine! Quick, drop the guillotine!"
Annabelle Linton looked over and saw a massive black bear chasing them!
Because of its size, it had to get on all fours to try and crawl inside!
With lightning-fast reflexes, Annabelle Linton released the guillotine’s blade. The massive black bear was instantly sliced in half!
Blood splattered across the floor and up the wall. Just like that, the bear was dead.
Just then, Leona Grant pointed to the countdown on the wall. "We need to find a way out, now! There’s a bomb in here, and we only have thirteen minutes until it blows!"
The four of them immediately began scrambling for a solution.
Annabelle Linton looked at the two halves of the bear and yelled, "Tie the bear to the chain! It’s how we get out!"
The other three heard her and immediately understood, rushing to move the bear’s carcass.
Annabelle Linton pulled a nylon rope from her bag and yanked the chain down.
The three men dragged the bear over, and together they tied the chain to the carcass.
Because of the bear’s sheer size, even one half of it weighed more than a single person.
Once it was tied securely, the guillotine blade didn’t fall. The four of them sprinted for the exit!
