Remarriage Failed Again Today

Chapter 238 - 237: I’ll Hold You a Little Longer

He slid for an unknown amount of time before his feet finally touched the ground.

The opening seemed specially designed to lure people inside.

Leona Grant was unharmed. The moment he landed, he shot to his feet and yelled, "Annabelle Linton, where are you?!"

It was pitch-black inside—so dark you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. You wouldn’t even know if an obstacle was right in front of you.

Leona Grant was always composed. He wouldn’t so much as frown even if the sky were falling, yet he could never remain calm when it came to Annabelle Linton.

And right now, he was gripped by a panic like nothing he had ever felt before.

He couldn’t bear to imagine something happening to Annabelle Linton; the anxiety was so intense it bordered on rage.

He was so frantic, he didn’t even realize he cared for Annabelle Linton this much.

Leona Grant felt his way along the wall, not daring to walk too fast, but his voice boomed, "Annabelle Linton, if you’re fucking alive, show yourself!"

His powerful voice echoed, but only silence answered.

"Annabelle Linton, if you can hear me, just make a sound!"

"Damn it, say something! Just show yourself, and I’ll agree to anything you ask from now on!"

"Annabelle Linton! Come out!"

As he was shouting, a wavering beam of light suddenly swept over and shone on his face.

The sudden light was blinding, and he turned his head away.

The light shifted. Annabelle Linton was leaning against the wall, raising an eyebrow coolly. "What are you yelling for? You’d think I was dead."

Hearing her familiar voice, Leona Grant rushed over and pulled Annabelle Linton into a tight embrace.

’He couldn’t imagine it—being unable to find Annabelle Linton in a place as dark as this. What would he have done, all alone?’

’He had always prided himself on being able to do anything. But just now, he had experienced it all: burning anxiety, heart-stopping terror, desperate roars, and the bitter sting of failure.’

’Feelings he’d never experienced in his entire life had all rushed over him at once.’

Leona Grant held Annabelle Linton tightly, as if afraid she would disappear again.

Annabelle Linton was being held so tightly she could barely breathe.

She frowned. ’What is wrong with this man? Why does he keep hugging me at the slightest provocation?’

’Were they that close?’

Annabelle Linton pushed him hard, but Leona Grant only held on tighter.

She closed her eyes in resignation, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Alright, I’m fine. Can you let go of me now?"

Leona Grant’s voice was muffled. "Just a little longer."

Annabelle Linton’s mouth twitched in exasperation. "Do you have to make the act so convincing?"

’Act?’

Leona Grant let go of Annabelle Linton. In the faint light of the flashlight, he saw her exasperated expression, and his face instantly darkened. "Annabelle Linton, what the hell do you mean by that?"

’I’m not dead, so what’s with the ’sky is falling’ act?’

’Besides, even if I did die, it’s not like he would have had this kind of reaction, right?’

’If he really cared that much, then who was responsible for my death in my past life?’

’After I died, he and Vivian Yates finally got to be together. They must have been ecstatic, right?’

Annabelle Linton let out a cold laugh. She felt exasperated and didn’t want to bring up the subject, or even think about it, again.

"It means what it says," Annabelle Linton said coolly, shining her flashlight on the walls and examining the patterns on them. "Looks like we’ve fallen into even greater danger. But it might also be a blessing in disguise... This could be our way out. We’d only get lost if we went back to the forest."

Seeing Annabelle Linton so dismissive, Leona Grant suddenly felt a keen sense of defeat.

’He had genuinely been scared to death just now, but she didn’t seem affected at all...’

Leona Grant pressed his lips together. He had no choice but to follow Annabelle Linton and start examining their surroundings.

Using the flashlight to light their way, the two walked for some distance before discovering they were in a maze.
