Chapter 825: The Truth Behind Kong Jingshan’s Death

"Aren’t you leaving yet?"

Yang Cheng said coldly.

"What are you acting crazy for? Just a pretty boy!"

Kong Lingjiang sneered disdainfully. In his eyes, Yang Cheng was merely Kong Lingwen’s kept man, any capability he had was just bedroom skills.

Just as the words fell, Kong Lingwen grabbed a cup from the table and hurled it at the two. Kong Lingjiang tilted his head to dodge; the cup hit Kong Demao square on the forehead.

He let out a miserable scream and clutched at his injured forehead as warm liquid gushed forth. He looked down to see blood flowing.

"Dad! Are you okay?"

Kong Lingjiang shouted in terror, then glared angrily at Kong Lingwen.

"Are you crazy? How dare you hit an elder?"

"So what if I hit you? I’ve never seen anyone as shameless as the two of you! You clearly are from the same generation as my father, but you choose a name from my generation. I bet you’ve long planned for Kong Lingjiang to be adopted by my dad. You really think a piece of trash like you is worthy?"

Kong Lingwen spoke with deliberate emphasis, filled with disdain.

"You..."

Kong Lingjiang was so furious he couldn’t find words; they indeed had such intentions and had prepared for it years ago. His father had even come up with an excuse then, claiming someone had told him he had to be of a younger generation to grow up safely.

"I warn you, get out now, or I’ll kill you both here and now. I’d rather go to prison and let my brother manage the company, but I’ll never let your scheme succeed."

At these words, both Kong Demao and Kong Lingjiang’s faces changed dramatically. They could tell Kong Lingwen wasn’t kidding; this woman was truly insane.

"Let’s go!"

Kong Demao said quietly, pulling Kong Lingjiang out.

The living room fell silent as Kong Lingwen remained in place, her chest heaving with anger, her eyes filled with fury.

"Lin Wen, calm down."

Yang Cheng walked over, holding her hand, gently soothing her.

Kong Lingwen took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions, though her body still trembled slightly. Through gritted teeth, she said, "They’ve gone too far! How dare they come and provoke me, nearly causing Grandpa to fall ill!"

Yang Cheng held her close, gently patting her back, "I know, but now is not the time to be rash. There are ways to deal with clowns like them, they’re not worth your anger."

"For now, dealing with Gong Jian is difficult, but dealing with Kong Demao and his son is quite easy."

Yang Cheng’s lips curled into a cold smile, "Let them jump around a few more days until the time is right, and then we’ll get them all in one swoop."

Just then, Elder Kong suddenly spoke.

"Xiaochen, Lin Wen, come over."

Though his voice was weak, it carried a tone that left no room for doubt.

Yang Cheng and Kong Lingwen exchanged a glance and walked over to sit beside the sofa.

"Grandpa, you’re not feeling well. Let me help you back to your room to rest."

Kong Lingwen said softly.

"I’m fine."

Elder Kong waved his hand, his gaze fell upon them, "I ask you, what do you mean by dealing with Gong Jian? What grudge does the Gong Family have with our Kong Family? Is there something I don’t know?"

Kong Lingwen’s face changed slightly, instinctively looking to Yang Cheng, hoping he could find a way to dodge the question.

This subtle exchange of glances did not escape Elder Kong’s watchful eyes; he immediately saw that they were hiding something.

"Don’t lie to me; I may be old, but I’m not senile. If you don’t tell me now and something happens, these old bones of mine won’t bear it."

"Grandpa..."

Kong Lingwen opened her mouth, unsure what to say.

"Lin Wen, speak truthfully."

Elder Kong’s tone was stern.

Seeing his stubbornness, Yang Cheng sighed, knowing he couldn’t hide it, and began, "Grandpa, this matter is a long story. Don’t get too worked up. Let’s go to the study and talk slowly."

Elder Kong nodded, and they immediately moved to either side to help him upstairs.

Once the study door closed, Yang Cheng took out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Elder Kong, "This is what Uncle Kong left behind; have a look."

Elder Kong took the paper, his hand trembling as he unfolded it, seeing Kong Jingshan’s familiar handwriting, each stroke heavy with meaning.

"Ling Wen, Xiaochen, by the time you read this, I might no longer be here..."

Elder Kong read aloud, each word quivering in his voice.

When he read that the mastermind was the Gong Family, his hand shook violently, almost dropping the paper.

"The Gong Family... it’s the Gong Family!"

He muttered to himself, his eyes red, gritting his teeth, "No wonder Jing Shan was so uneasy; that foolish child must have realized long ago."

"Grandpa, are you saying my dad knew long ago that Gong Jian was going to act?"

Kong Lingwen asked in astonishment.

"Exactly."

Elder Kong nodded, tears streaming, "Your father was smart; he undoubtedly sensed danger also knew there were traitors around him, but he still left them room to act."

"Because he knew only when he died would Gong Jian spare the Kong Family, would you be safe. He exchanged his life to protect yours!"

At these words, Kong Lingwen’s body trembled violently, tears streaming as she staggered, almost falling.

She finally understood why her father knowingly stayed in Zhonghai despite the danger.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to leave, but he couldn’t.

He had to use his death to secure his children’s peace.

"Dad!"

Kong Lingwen cried out in anguish, covering her face, overwhelmed with sobs.

Yang Cheng quickly stepped forward, holding her close, gently comforting her, "Lin Wen, don’t cry anymore; Uncle Kong wouldn’t want to see you like this from up above."

"Why did he have to sacrifice himself? What am I supposed to do now?"

Kong Lingwen cried for a long time before gradually calming down, though her body still trembled slightly.

Yang Cheng rushed out of the study, calling to Wen Xu outside the door, "Help Grandpa back to his room."

"Yes!"

Wen Xu nodded, hurrying in to support Elder Kong, while Yang Cheng carried Kong Lingwen out of the study, taking her back to the bedroom.

"Lin Wen, don’t think too much, don’t go to the company today, sleep for a while."

He said softly, tucking her in.

Kong Lingwen closed her eyes, tears still streaming down, chokingly murmured, "I miss my dad, he was so foolish. If it weren’t for Grandpa’s reminder, I might never have known the truth."

"Uncle Kong made so many sacrifices just hoping you and Ling Chuan could be safe. You can’t be hard on yourself; let’s find a way to avenge him and manage the Kong Family company well. He’ll be happy to see it from the sky."

Yang Cheng said softly, lying beside her, continuously wiping away her tears.

After an uncertain amount of time, Kong Lingwen finally fell into a deep sleep, perhaps meeting Kong Jingshan in her dreams, as a faint smile appeared on her lips.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door, and Yang Cheng immediately got up to open it, finding Ni Qingyao and Yang Rou standing there, the three sisters.
