Chapter 505: Securing Loyd And Fulgur’s Support
"So that’s how it is..."
Fulgur muttered with a look of genuine surprise on his face as he slowly lowered his gaze, allowing the weight of everything Damian had just explained to settle in his mind. Loyd was equally silent, staring at Damian with an expression that was difficult to read.
They had known the public version of Damian’s story, the ruthless Prince who had appeared in Velmora, slaughtered thousands, challenged the established order and openly declared himself a God, but hearing the reasoning behind his actions from Damian himself painted a far more complicated picture.
The three of them were currently sitting inside a special guest room that William had specifically prepared for Fulgur and Loyd, and Damian had been informed that the room had once been regularly used by Lin Qui. It was less a guest room and more an indoor garden, with lush vegetation covering the edges of the chamber and a single magnificent cherry blossom tree standing at its center.
Its branches spread beneath the enchanted ceiling, covered in pale blossoms that released a faint natural fragrance into the air. Beneath the tree sat a low tea table with everything necessary for preparing tea, and the peaceful atmosphere was almost absurdly different from the battlefield they had left behind.
Damian slowly nodded as he poured himself another cup, his movements calm and deliberate.
"Lin Qui has given up so much to bring me to where I am, just to give up because of some silly tradition that will cease to exist after Sol wipes out all life form in the universe..."
His fingers tightened slightly around the teapot before relaxing again, and he stared into the warm tea for several seconds. He raised the cup to his lips and emptied its content in one gulp, ignoring the heat as the warm liquid ran down his throat and spread through his cold body.
He exhaled loudly afterward, almost as though the warmth had temporarily reminded him what it felt like to be alive.
"If the entire Velmora can’t understand this dream, the entire Velmora will be eradicated so that the rest of the universe live!"
Buzz!
Fulgur and Loyd both frowned at those words, their expressions becoming noticeably more serious. Neither immediately challenged him. They were demons, not champions of justice or morality, and neither had any sentimental attachment to the idea that every individual life must be preserved regardless of the consequences.
The logic behind sacrificing the few to save the many was not foreign to either of them, particularly when the alternative was potentially allowing the entire universe to perish. Still, hearing Damian calmly state that he would eradicate his own realm if necessary was unsettling.
Their gazes wandered around the room almost instinctively, as though searching for some indication that Damian was exaggerating. Their eyes eventually settled on Abel, who was lying on the floor nearby and sleeping peacefully despite everything being said.
Rin was sitting close to him, angrily yelling at the sleeping dragon, apparently still offended by something Abel had said earlier, but Abel did not even bother opening his eyes. The ridiculous argument continued in the background without either spirit beast paying attention to the serious atmosphere surrounding their master.
Fulgur’s attention eventually shifted upward, and his expression changed when he noticed the faint black dome framing the edges of the room. The darkness was subtle enough that it could easily have been mistaken for a strange feature of the ceiling, but Fulgur recognized the oppressive sensation immediately.
Damian had activated Realm Zero around the chamber to prevent anyone outside from observing or listening to what was happening within the room, making their conversation completely isolated from the rest of the palace. Only after confirming that they could not be overheard did Fulgur and Loyd return their attention to Damian, who was calmly refilling his cup.
He had changed into loose white robes, and someone had even placed a cloth bonnet over his long black hair, presumably in preparation for his bath later. The sight should have looked ridiculous considering the terrifying appearance he had displayed in Cinderfall, yet somehow Damian still managed to look elegant.
His pale face, blackened lips and dark eyes contrasted strangely with the clean white clothing, while the peaceful surroundings made him look less like the Prince who had annihilated the Mier estate and more like a noble enjoying a quiet afternoon beneath a cherry blossom tree.
Fulgur found himself staring for a moment before realizing he was doing so and quickly looked away.
"Since your main goal is Just and benefits all demons, I will serve your majesty with the best of my abilities." Fulgur finally said, cupping his fists before giving Damian a slight bow.
If Damian truly intended to prepare the Underworld for the catastrophe he believed was coming, then Fulgur saw little reason to oppose him simply because his methods were ruthless.
Loyd immediately followed his example, hastily cupping his fists and bowing his head. "I will serve your majesty," he said, perhaps slightly faster than necessary.
Damian watched both of them for a moment before chuckling quietly. He raised the teacup toward his nose and inhaled the fresh scent of herbs before taking a small sip. His eyes briefly closed as he appreciated the flavor, and the relaxed gesture made the two demons before him even more aware of how strange Damian truly was.
"That’s why I plan to make you my High Censor." Damian’s gaze shifted toward Fulgur.
Fulgur’s head immediately rose. His eyes widened in surprise as he stared at Damian, clearly not expecting the offer.
Before Fulgur could even formulate a response, Damian shifted his gaze toward Loyd, who was already staring back at him.
"And you will be my new minister of justice..."
Loyd’s expression froze for a moment before he straightened instinctively. Fulgur’s surprise slowly transformed into understanding, and his eyes narrowed as he looked at Damian.
"You plan to use us to keep your in-laws in check."
Damian slowly nodded before taking another sip of tea. A faint smile appeared on his lips, and for a brief moment something strange happened.
The gentle expression, the elegant posture and the calmness in his eyes seemed to overlap with the image of another person.
Lin Qui’s image seemed to appear over Damian’s for the briefest instant, so vivid that both Fulgur and Loyd instinctively blinked and wiped at their eyes as though something had disturbed their vision.
When they looked again, Damian was still sitting beneath the tree, but the impression remained. It was difficult to reconcile this elegant and composed figure with the demon of destruction they had witnessed crashing through the Mier family residence and eradicating everything beneath black flames.
"I can’t afford to make the same mistake I did. I need people more powerful than my in-laws running the justice system. That way even if I die, the next successor will have reliable people who can defend and protect him against their greed." Damian’s voice became firmer as he spoke, making it clear that this was not merely a political maneuver for his current reign. He was thinking about what would happen after he was gone. He knew that power could corrupt institutions, and he had already witnessed how noble families could manipulate positions of authority through bloodline, marriage and tradition. If he allowed the same system to continue, whoever inherited Velmora after him could eventually become little more than a puppet surrounded by powerful families. He wanted people outside those circles to hold the authority necessary to oppose them.
Fulgur and Loyd nodded slowly, genuine surprise visible in their expressions. Neither had expected Damian to think so far ahead, much less to consider the possibility of his own death. Considering that he carried the Abyssal inheritance, the idea seemed almost absurd. Loyd eventually voiced the thought that had entered both their minds. "But sire... With the Abyssal inheritance, it is very unlikely you can be killed by anyone in the underworld." His tone was careful, as though he already suspected Damian would have an answer.
Damian grinned.
"True, but the abyss can still take over... To be honest, I’m barely holding on to my sanity... If it gains a bit more control of myself, it, I will fall to it." He lifted the teacup and took another slow sip, his smile becoming strangely calm.
There was no fear in his expression, only acceptance of something he had already considered many times.
"And if that happens, I will set myself ablaze with my samsara flames and burn down to ashes just like the countless souls I have burnt down in the past."
Buzz!
The expressions on Fulgur and Loyd widened instantly. Neither man laughed or dismissed the statement as exaggeration.
There was something in Damian’s eyes that made the seriousness of his words unmistakable. Abel, who had been sleeping peacefully until that moment, slowly opened his burning red eyes from across the room and stared directly at Damian.
Even Rin stopped yelling at him for a moment. The fox’s gaze remained fixed upon Damian, unusually deep and silent. Everyone in the room understood the implication. Damian did not consider Kaizer or Sol to be his greatest threat. He did not even consider the armies of Hell his greatest danger. The thing he feared most was the power already residing within him.
"Stay strong. I would not want that to be the case," Fulgur said bluntly after several seconds of silence.
His voice carried no attempt at empty encouragement. He simply meant what he said.
"Of course, sire. Stay strong!" Loyd added quickly, forcing a small smile.
Damian nodded, accepting their words without further discussion. He rose from his seat and adjusted the loose white robes around his body before glancing toward the edges of the room.
With a simple flick of his fingers, Realm Zero collapsed. The black dome surrounding the chamber fractured into countless dark shards, each piece dissolving into nothingness before it reached the ground. The isolation vanished, and the room once again became part of the palace.
"I’ll leave you all to rest now. I’m sure you need plenty of it." Damian’s gaze settled on Fulgur as he emphasized the second sentence.
Fulgur nodded slowly before raising his head to meet Damian’s eyes. "I agree sire, but I will point out something first."
Damian raised a brow, stopping beside the doorway.
"What?" he asked.
Fulgur pushed himself to his feet and stood upright, meeting Damian’s gaze directly.
"You saw what the 31st squadron is capable of. With a much bigger army with far manier capable commanders, you will be killed during Duke Darbin’s execution if you don’t use your abyssal inheritance."
Damian simply chuckled. He waved his hand dismissively and turned away, already beginning to walk toward the doorway.
"Don’t worry... I’ll be heading over to a man who’s army can help me protect the capital on that very day. Such insignificant matters should not concern you. Just focusing on keeping my in-laws and girls at bay and leave the rest to me." His voice remained calm as he walked away, the loose white robes whipping violently behind him
Fulgur watched him disappear through the doorway, his expression becoming thoughtful.
A man whose army could protect the capital. Fulgur’s eyes narrowed slightly as he considered Damian’s words.
Who could that be?
