Chapter 141: Stalking Priests
Hazel, Racheal, and Ruby stood frozen like statues at the sight of their husband lying on the ground. They could still remember his empty smile before he got into the car and drove away.
But what could hurt Damian?
While their husband was not particularly powerful yet, he was not weak either. Even a demon noble at the Baron rank would lose to him, so what could have drained him so much that he became defenseless to a simple gun?
They wanted to help, but they could not simply heal him. Damian was in a fatal condition, a state that could lead to an important outcome in his story. They could not interfere by healing him. It would be no different from changing his fate.
And one thing about the universe was that no one could cheat death. If Damian was saved from death, the world would make it its personal duty to ensure that he died for that.
Not even deities lived forever, and the few who had dared to seek immortality had tasted the unavoidable, savory flavor of death. The only way to help him without attracting the wrath of the universe was to have a mortal help him.
"We need to get Clara to come down here." Hazel decided in a heartbeat.
Pushing aside their worries, they were about to move when they heard approaching footsteps. The trio did not move. They stared at the origin of the sound and waited patiently until two figures appeared. It was Corbin, whose eyes were covered with a piece of white cloth stained in blood, and he needed Linda’s support to walk. His bloodied robes, filled with tears and wear, made Hazel’s eyes turn murderous. She was about to move when Racheal’s hand grabbed her shoulder firmly.
’A priest and that girl are not strong enough to harm Damian. By the way, there is no residual divine aura on him. If they hurt him, we would be able to tell,’ Racheal said telepathically.
Ruby nodded in agreement and added, ’They may know who did this, so wait and be patient.’
Hazel’s eyes burned with murderous intent despite their words. However, the promise of finding the person responsible was more important.
Corbin and Linda approached Damian, unaware that his three wives were already on the scene, invisible to everyone, including priests like him who could see the spiritual world normal men could not. They literally walked past Hazel, Racheal, and Ruby and turned to look at Damian.
"It’s that handsome lawyer who won the Twenty Shot case!" Linda was stunned and perplexed.
Instinctively, she tried to move in to help Damian, but Corbin grabbed her hand to stop her.
Not too long ago, he had been involved in the most intense battle of his life. It had cost him both his eyes and left his companion, who had stayed beside him since the day he was born, in a terrible condition. It was only natural that he was wary of everything and everyone.
"You mean the one with that strange ring on, right?" Corbin’s voice was unusually cold.
They had been about to leave the area when they sensed intense killing intent. Reluctant due to Corbin’s condition, they still checked it out, curious to see if they would find the Prince of Hell. Instead, they found a human currently dying right before them.
"What are you trying to insinuate?!" Linda pulled her hand away from his. "Someone is dying!"
Once free from his grip, she ran over to Damian’s side, kneeling in the pool of blood and placing her hands over the bloody wound on his chest. Shutting her eyes, Linda was about to begin chanting when Corbin’s words drew her attention.
"If you help this man, you may just be helping the Sin of Lust."
Buzz!
Linda froze, her eyes widening at those words as she instinctively stared at Damian’s face. Corbin was not the type to lie about things like this or joke about something so serious, so she had to take him seriously.
"What do you mean? He doesn’t look anything like the Prince of Hell we met earlier. That one had long hair, he wore Hanfu clothes, and I think he looked Asian..."
"Yet he spoke with a white accent and has a strange ring that hid his presence perfectly, making it impossible to gauge his strength." Corbin cut her off, and she was taken aback by his words.
Instinctively, her gaze fell on the fox ring on Damian’s hand, and she remembered Corbin taking interest in the same ring earlier.
"Kindly take off the ring and we will know if this man is actually human or demon." Corbin added.
Unknown to him, Hazel was standing directly behind him with Ruby and Racheal flanking his sides. All three had murderous gleams in their eyes as they stared at Corbin.
If they could directly harm a mortal without consequences, they would have killed Corbin the moment he stopped Linda from healing Damian.
Linda was silent for a moment as she stared at Damian’s face. His eyes were open but dull, like someone who was not even trying to fight for his life. She could not tell if he was conscious or not. But the thought of this man actually being the Third Prince of Hell rattled her heart. Even if she took off the ring and it turned out he was a demon, she could not bring herself to hate him. In fact, she was sure she would still want to heal him, but Corbin clearly did not think that way.
She knew what he would do if Damian was the Prince of Hell.
Was she really going to let a man who saved them from a powerful demon noble die simply because of her partner’s personal vendetta?
She honestly didn’t want to stand by and watch this happen. The third prince of hell and saved twice now and was even magnanimous enough to spare Corbin life after his dirty betrayal. Does he really have the moral right to want someone like Damian Dead after what he did?
