Chapter 20 : Chapter 20
Chapter 20: The Mastermind?
The bathroom was already cramped, and among everyone present, Zhao Mingyue was the only living person.
Looking again at the miserable state of the female corpse and the dense claw marks covering the bathroom, it would have been a lie to say her scalp did not tingle.
Even so, Zhao Mingyue still maintained basic calm under these circumstances.
Information about the female ghost surfaced in her mind. She remembered something Lu Liangting had once said—when the woman was burned to death, two children had been inside the house with her. The woman had been taking care of them.
Since the woman had died in the fire, it was difficult for those two children to have escaped.
Yet now only the woman’s corpse could be seen. The children’s bodies were nowhere to be found. If the corpses had already been dealt with, then the ghosts of the two children should still remain here.
“Lu Liangting said earlier that she had two children with her. Bai Yu, can you see those two children?”
“I didn’t see them. They definitely aren’t in this room.”
Bai Yu answered calmly. She had indeed seen no children—only the female ghost standing in the corner.
Earlier that morning, when Zhao Mingyue went downstairs, she had been trapped in a Ghost Wall. That had been the work of this very female ghost.
It was probably meant to trap Zhao Mingyue here forever.
“This ghost’s resentment is extremely strong. If you had come in alone, you definitely would have died here.”
Once Bai Yu entered this bathroom, she realized the situation was more serious than she had expected.
This ghost had been deliberately imprisoned here by someone. Her resentment had already been heavy, and being locked here had nearly doubled it. Moreover, this place was her domain, allowing her strength to increase even further.
“Ah… then can you deal with her?”
Hearing Bai Yu’s words, Zhao Mingyue grew slightly nervous.
“Yes, but if we want to deal with her at the smallest cost, it depends on Lu Liangting.”
“Lu Liangting?”
“That guy entered the female ghost’s memory. If he handles it correctly, he can weaken her resentment. Understand?”
With Bai Yu’s explanation, Zhao Mingyue immediately understood.
“Then I’ll go tell him.”
She had barely spoken before turning around when.
BANG!
The bathroom door slammed shut behind her.
At the same time, the five chains binding the female ghost began shaking violently. Even the mixture of pus and soil soaking the corpse began to churn violently, as if it were boiling.
It gave the illusion that the female corpse was about to revive.
Yet the corpse remained completely motionless.
The red filter in the bathroom deepened even further. Zhao Mingyue’s vision was filled with blood-red color.
She hugged the Bloodstained Doll tightly and stepped back, lowering her head slightly.
At that moment, Bai Yu stepped forward and stood in front of her.
Bai Yu’s physical appearance now looked only about fifteen years old—even two years younger than Zhao Mingyue.
Her body was thin and small even among girls of the same age, standing around one meter sixty tall. She looked frail and slightly sickly, like someone who needed protection.
Yet this delicate body that seemed to awaken protective instincts now stood in front of Zhao Mingyue voluntarily, giving her a strange sense of security.
“Do you want to die again?”
WHOOSH!
A fierce yin wind erupted.
Countless blood threads crawled out from the cracks in the floor and ceiling. In the blink of an eye, the entire bathroom was wrapped in blood threads like a spider’s web.
Under the influence of these blood threads, the female ghost revealed herself.
Her skin was deep blue, covered with black patterns. Her head hung low, messy black hair hiding her face. She wore a long dress red as blood, while thick black mist—her materialized resentment—overflowed from her body.
The moment she appeared, the female ghost lunged toward Bai Yu.
Her black fingernails, each at least twenty centimeters long, stabbed directly toward Bai Yu’s chest.
She was unbelievably fast. Zhao Mingyue subconsciously squinted her eyes, afraid Bai Yu’s body would be pierced through.
But the next moment.
Bai Yu grabbed the female ghost’s wrist with her left hand. At the same time, chains wrapped around her right arm as she delivered a punch straight into the ghost’s chest.
The blow scattered black mist from the ghost’s body, forcing her backward. However, because Bai Yu still held her wrist, the moment her body leaned back, she was yanked forward again.
Bai Yu’s palm struck like a blade against the ghost’s throat.
CRACK!
The ghost’s neck twisted violently.
Bai Yu withdrew her hand, raising the arm wrapped in thick chains high before smashing it down onto the ghost’s head.
As the ghost’s head dropped, Bai Yu followed up with a knee strike.
When the ghost’s head snapped back upward again—Bai Yu’s small fist arrived once more.
BANG!
The female ghost flew backward and slammed heavily against the bathroom wall. Black mist spread outward once again.
Watching this smooth and fluid series of attacks, Zhao Mingyue stood behind her completely stunned.
She had seen Bai Yu kill ghosts before, but she had never seen Bai Yu fight like this.
How could such explosive power come from such a fragile-looking body?
And those combat techniques were far too skilled. What had Bai Yu been in life? How could such a delicate-looking girl know these techniques?
Zhao Mingyue did not even know where to begin complaining.
The scene she had just witnessed completely clashed with the girl’s appearance. Every attack had targeted vital points. If the opponent had been a human instead of a ghost, they might have been beaten half to death even if they survived.
The female ghost stood up and let out a horrifying scream.
Even Bai Yu was briefly dazed.
The ghost’s ten fingernails suddenly grew longer, stabbing toward Bai Yu like arrows.
And that was not all.
Black spiritual fire ignited along those nails.
Bai Yu snapped out of her momentary daze, just as the ten claws thrust toward her.
Without the slightest panic, the chain in her right hand transformed into a long blade.
The blade slashed down.
The nails were severed instantly.
However, the black spiritual fire immediately ignited Bai Yu’s blade as well, forcing her to abandon it.
With her nails cut off, the female ghost glared at Bai Yu from beneath her black hair with extreme hatred.
Bai Yu glanced at her right hand.
Cracks had appeared on her exposed skin.
These were not the black patterns on her body but actual fractures in the flesh.
The speed of that slash had been too explosive. Her body simply could not adapt to such sudden power, which caused the damage.
Bai Yu was not surprised.
She had always known this body was weak, but she had not expected a ghost’s body to be this fragile.
Meanwhile, Lu Liangting was still trapped inside the female ghost’s illusion.
He already understood the truth behind everything, but he could not change anything.
The fire had already begun, and he was being chased by the female ghost.
Just as he was pushed to the brink of death, the female ghost suddenly seemed to be struck by an invisible force and was blasted away.
A graceful figure flashed past for an instant.
When he saw her, the despair he had felt after learning the truth suddenly vanished.
The feeling was strange—like being stranded in a foreign land on the verge of death, only to be saved by a girl from his hometown passing by.
In short, he felt nothing but gratitude.
Bai Yu still did not know that by helping Zhao Mingyue earlier, she had accidentally saved Lu Liangting once again, leaving yet another deep impression on him.
She was about to kill the female ghost, even if it meant paying a greater price.
But suddenly—The female ghost disappeared.
Not only did the ghost vanish, even the blood-red filter in their vision began slowly fading.
Click.
From outside the apartment door came the sound of a lock turning.
Then the door was pulled open from the outside.
“Someone’s here.”
With the female ghost gone, Bai Yu hid inside Zhao Mingyue’s shadow again.
The person who arrived was a living human.
If nothing unexpected happened, this person had imprisoned the female ghost’s corpse here, cleaned the room, placed the paper-burning basin in the living room, and applied the white plaster on the fourth and fifth floors.
“You—who are you? How did you get in here?!”
An elderly voice sounded from the living room.
