Chapter 1 : Chapter 1
Chapter 1: A Serial Killer? From Today On, You Must Conquer the Male Lead
“Number 114, a death-row prisoner. Before participating in this Scum Game, you murdered twelve women and set fire to a church, resulting in the deaths of twenty-three people.”
“After joining this game, in the past nine stages, you used extremely cruel methods to kill another one hundred and fourteen people, including your younger sister, Number 724.”
The cold mechanical voice echoed in front of the abandoned church at midnight. In the darkness, the man known as Number 114 was suspended in midair by two tentacles. Before he could even roar, two female bodies—sliced horizontally open and hollowed of their organs and bones—appeared one in front and one behind him, violently pressing against his body.
Number 114 stood two meters tall with a sturdy build. The female body, only one meter sixty tall, looked like a doll compared to him. The tentacles therefore chose to smash the man’s bones and shave away his excess muscles. When the woman’s body pressed against his flesh like a red-hot iron plate, a grating sizzling sound filled the air. Through the seams, the excess scraps of useless flesh and blood were expelled.
A tentacle curled around the woman’s delicate face—only a thin layer, yet the facial features were clearly visible.
It was pressed onto the man’s face, and the skin began to grow wildly, replacing the man’s original appearance.
The death-row prisoner who had slaughtered countless people was transformed into a delicate woman. Everyone in the square looked up at the scene. The entire place was silent.
Those who could participate in the Scum Game were either lunatics, serial killers, or patients with severe mental illnesses. Faced with this scene, the only things in their eyes were madness and a trace of confusion.
Seated in a small building at the edge of the square, Bai Yu did not look up at the man who did not deserve sympathy. The game had already reached its final stage. He needed to think about how he could clear a game that seemed impossible to complete.
The final stage was absurd, yet somehow strangely reasonable. Their group of lunatics had to enter a comic—a campus romance comic.
As for why Number 114 had to be turned into a woman, the reason was simple.
The comic lacked a female protagonist.
To be precise, it was not only Number 114 who needed to become a woman. Every survivor would undergo “modification.” As for the mission objective, it was extremely simple. At first glance, it even seemed easy—compared to the previous nine stages, it was practically child’s play.
Using their modified identities, they had to pursue the corresponding characters in the comic.
The requirement was that the target had to genuinely fall in love with them.
During the process, they were forbidden from actively harming the character or forcing the character to submit.
On the surface, the objective did not seem difficult at all. It even perfectly matched the theme of a campus romance comic.
However, the participants of this game and the mission world seemed fundamentally incompatible.
Forcing a group of lunatics, murderers, and mentally ill people to participate in a romance game truly made it a mission of hellish difficulty.
They could set fires and kill people without hesitation.
But falling in love?
They would rather be killed.
“The final stage definitely won’t be this simple. Judging from the pattern of the Scum Game, the real problem must lie within this comic. The current information only says it is a romance story, but that doesn’t mean it cannot include other genres as well.”
Bai Yu fell into deep thought. In his hand was a black phone, and his thumb gently rubbed against the screen.
Displayed on the screen was a photograph.
A cute little girl wearing a white dress and holding a rabbit doll in her arms.
He was only one stage away from finding her.
Suddenly, the square grew noisy. The other game participants were undergoing modification. No one except Bai Yu was spared.
Outside the church stood a bulletin board engraved with many names.
These names looked as though they had been outlined in lines of blood—twisted, frenzied, and carrying a nauseating scent of gore.
The bulletin board displayed the list of survivors and their rankings.
The ranking order depended on how many participants each person had killed during the previous nine stages.
The names that remained belonged to the living. The numbers after each name represented a vibrant life that had once existed.
And these blood-soaked names were fading at an astonishing speed.
The faded names indicated that the “modification” had been completed.
Darkness spread across the list until it reached the second place.
Only the surname “Zhou” could be seen. The two characters after it appeared to have been deliberately smeared out.
Of course, that was not the important part.
What mattered were the three numbers engraved after the name—numbers so dark red they had almost turned black.
“999”
After the woman surnamed Zhou disappeared, Bai Yu stood up and walked to the deep darkness at the entrance of the church.
The bulletin board beside him now displayed only one name.
[1. Bai Yu (Doctor): 1124]
“Number 2004, a death-row prisoner. Before participating in this game, you killed eight people. However, considering the reason you killed them, you cannot be considered a complete scumbag.”
“But during the past nine stages of the game, you killed one thousand one hundred and twenty-four people.”
“Your madness impressed even those lunatics. They even believed you were treating the ‘patients’ you killed and began calling you Doctor.”
The mechanical voice sounded beside his ear.
Bai Yu said nothing.
One hand rested quietly on the hilt of the knife beneath his long black leather coat.
“You do not need to undergo modification. This is your reward.”
“But for the sake of fairness, you will still require a small change.”
The massive doors of the church slowly opened.
Behind them lay a crimson world.
“The answer you seek lies in the world beyond this door.”
“Are you ready?”
Bai Yu frowned.
He stepped forward and walked into the church.
Almost instantly, he felt his body being dismantled by a strange force. He forced his eyes open but saw only a world drenched in blood-red light.
Worse still, his body was completely disassembled within a short moment and then reconstructed.
His body turned into countless threads of blood as thin as strands of hair.
It felt as though he were breaking out of a cocoon.
Or perhaps weaving a new cocoon for himself.
What he could not see was that his long blade and black phone were floating beside him.
The black phone still displayed the yellowed photograph.
The adorable twin-tailed girl in a white dress who looked cute enough to empty anyone’s health bar.
At the same time, lines of scrolling comments were appearing on the screen.
“Holy crap! The number one on the killer leaderboard reincarnated as a girl!”
“Excited! Excited! Excited!”
“Good grief. Making a mass murderer with ten thousand kills go fall in love. Let’s pray for that unlucky comic character for one second.”
“Wow, the little girl is so cute. I hereby declare that from today onward, the Blade Demon is my future brother-in-law!”
“Buddy, that’s illegal. But before the police find you, the Blade Demon will probably turn you into minced meat.”
“I just want to know if that rabbit doll has an identical version for sale.”
“Insider news: this world isn’t just a campus romance story. Apparently, it also includes supernatural urban legends. Very exciting. I recommend preparing two extra pairs of pants.”
Within the blood-red world, Bai Yu gradually regained consciousness.
