Conflux System: I Can Merge Anything

To see a candle’s light one must take it into a dark place.

But as it turned out, Tesla didn’t need a candle’s light.

He rejected the flaming cloth that Zane gave him and when asked about it, Tesla revealed:

"I can see in the dark."

Silence.

"...What?" Zane only came up with that.

"Yes. I can see in the dark." Tesla repeated.

"Really?"

"Why would I lie about something like that?"

Zane narrowed his eyes.

"Fine."

He removed his finger from the lighter.

The light vanished and now it was complete darkness.

Zane raised two fingers in the air and asked:

"How many fing-"

"Two."

Zane’s brows shot up.

But he came back to normal the next second.

"That might be a guess. That doesn’t prove anything."

Zane decided to do something else.

He unbuttoned his shirt with no sound and stood with his bare chest open.

"Describe me right now." He ordered.

Tesla sighed. "You unbuttoned your shirt. I am surprised you don’t have any hair on your chest yet. And what’s with that huge scar and its shape?"

Zane closed his shirt right away.

He ended up being called out for no hair instead of catching Tesla’s lie which didn’t seem to be a lie at all.

"Also," Tesla added. "Watching a man stripping in front of me while looking at me wasn’t in my wishlist at all."

"I wasn’t stripping. I was testing you."

Tesla laughed.

Zane flicked his lighter open as light came on again.

He saw Tesla once more but now in a different way.

"How can you see in the dark though? Is that a skill?" He asked.

Tesla shook his head. "I can’t tell you that. Not right now."

Zane’s face turned blank.

"You can reveal that you can see in the dark but choose to hide why you can do that? Aren’t you keeping the wrong thing secret?"

Tesla scratched his cheek.

"I felt like I could share it with you. You didn’t seem to mind the differences between people."

"Then share with me the reason as well. No normal person can see in the dark."

"I can’t share that as I might die. So don’t force me."

Zane’s gaze hardened.

"I don’t want a person keeping secrets with Milo. She is very close to you. If something happened to her..."

Zane stopped at that and Tesla raised his hands.

"I only said I can see in the dark. I am not a villain. I like Milo and I will never hurt her. Please believe me. Don’t make me think that I chose the wrong person to trust with my ability to see in the dark."

Zane watched the man with the lighter’s light, observing the expressions and in the end, he let out a sigh.

"I couldn’t care less about your secrets. Or anyone else’s for the matter. I only asked you because you stay with Milo and I don’t want her to get hurt by anyone. Your ability is safe with me. I am still not sure why you revealed that in the first place. You could have simply taken the cloth and acted like you were searching. Are you dumb?"

Tesla laughed.

"I didn’t want to play any games with you. So I chose the truth. And I wanted to see your reaction as well."

"Huh? My reaction?"

"Yes. I wanted to see how you react when you meet someone different from other normal people."

Zane slowly nodded.

"Don’t worry. You are normal. You are not different."

Tesla frowned. "But you just said normal people can’t see in the dark. Don’t change your words just to make me feel good."

Zane shook his head.

"Yes. Normal people can’t see in the dark. But normal people also don’t fight with an Emberlord. But we both still did that. So if you look at it like this, you are normal for me and I am normal for you."

Tesla smiled.

"That’s a leap of logic."

Zane returned the smile.

"If that’s what it takes to accept you."

After that, Zane turned around and began his search.

"You don’t need your lighter now though. I can narrate the surroundings for you."

"It’s fine. No offence to you but I will only relax if I see things from my eyes. But you can do something else."

"What?"

"Since you can see with no problems then search around the house yourself. You will be fast and efficient. Find anything that would tell us about Horum and also more clothes because the others would need it."

Tesla gulped. "But I don’t want anyone else to know I can see in the dark."

"What?" Zane turned around.

"Yes. I am sorry."

Zane rolled his eyes.

"Fine. Give me that cloth again. I will burn it so walk around with it just for show. Is that good?"

"Yes."

Tesla grinned and tossed the cloth that Zane gave him back to him.

The gutterborn lit it on fire again Tesla held it with his weapon.

The man had a Cleaver with him and it was longer than the average ones.

Zane didn’t mind it as he had a great weapon of his own.

"I will shout when I find something of value." Tesla said and left the room.

Not once did he stumble and with no problem, he was outside.

Zane focused on his own work.

He found nothing in the room he was in so he too left it.

Also, he found a cloth for himself and lit it as well.

He also held it with his weapon named Last Toll. He would also like to save the lighter from getting empty of fuel or whatever mechanics were used to produce fire.

I should merge something to create an Eternal fire of some kind.

Zane noted this idea in his vault of cool merging ideas inside his mind and carried on the search.

He went upstairs and entered the first door he saw.

He was welcomed by the sight of Tesla looking around the room.

He turned to Zane and gave a nod.

He stopped searching and walked towards the exit of the room.

Zane didn’t mind it as the man would search some other room while Zane searched here.

But the next second, Tesla stopped.

He stopped by the door.

He didn’t leave the room.

Zane frowned.

"What happened?"

Tesla turned around and faced Zane.

The light from the burning cloth fell on Tesla’s face and Zane was forced to turn serious.

The man looked terrified.

"What is it?" Zane asked once more and Tesla placed his hand on Zane’s shoulder.

"Some people are coming."

"Wha-How do you kno-"

KNOCK!

Someone knocked on Horum’s house.
