The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master

Chapter 219: Sister, Save Me

Shirley Forrest looked at Vera Xavier worriedly. She wanted to say something in her defense, but since she didn’t know the full story, she was powerless to help.

Vera Xavier said unhurriedly, "With detective skills like yours, it’s a real waste you’re not writing mystery novels. It’s just a shame you legal illiterates probably don’t know there’s a crime in this world called ’slander’."

Just then, the bell for class rang, and all the students returned to their seats.

The way her classmates looked at Vera Xavier had changed. At eighteen or nineteen, they weren’t malicious enough to intentionally assume the worst of someone, but they were incredibly curious about *that sort of thing*. As a result, further speculation was inevitable.

They took the hints from Cara Preston’s statement and ran with them. Suddenly, Vera Xavier’s yawning earlier that morning and the way she’d shaken her hand now seemed like supporting evidence that she had been gang-raped.

Shane Caldwell, who had already been feeling conflicted, grew even more troubled. He was distracted for the next several classes.

Cara Preston, however, was filled with smug satisfaction. She had originally thought her plan had failed and that she would, at most, only tarnish Vera Xavier’s reputation. She never expected that after Elise Langdon stirred things up, the results would be this good!

She had always been calculating. During the following breaks, girls would occasionally approach her to ask for details about that night. She would always reply cryptically, "Something like that would never happen to my dear sister. I believe in her!"

This statement, which sounded like a defense, was far more damning than any direct accusation!

Vera Xavier couldn’t even go to the restroom without people pointing and whispering. It felt as if a dark cloud was pressing down on her. A girl with a weaker constitution would have likely crumbled under the pressure.

But she had weathered all sorts of storms in her past life. To her, this was nothing.

She calmly went about her day as if nothing had happened.

When school let out that afternoon, Shane Caldwell said to her, "Vera Xavier, I believe you."

Vera Xavier shrugged indifferently. "Believe it or not, it’s up to you. I am who I am."

With that, she calmly slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked away. Shane Caldwell watched her go, a complicated expression in his eyes.

As she reached the school gate, she saw Jack Judd cornering Cara Preston. He immediately shouted, "Wifey, I’m here to pick you up from school!"

With that, he reached out to grab Cara Preston. The moment Cara saw him, her face turned pale as she screamed, "Sister, save me!"

Vera Xavier could only scoff. ’Where does Cara Preston get the confidence to think I’d actually help her?’

Cara Preston’s expression was ghastly; she had already connected Jack Judd to Vera Xavier. Through her tears, she cried, "Sister, how could you be so cruel? It’s bad enough that you were ruined in that dark alley, but why would you send this scumbag to ruin me, too!"

Vera Xavier’s eyes went cold. Jack Judd froze. The moment he met her icy gaze, he immediately thought of Nathaniel Nathan—a man no different from a god of slaughter. If he couldn’t even handle this one small task Vera Xavier had given him, he probably wouldn’t even know what hit him when he died.

A sudden stroke of genius hit Jack Judd. He said, "My dear little Cara, how can you be so heartless? You were the one in the dark alley that night! How can you just turn around and deny it?"

Cara Preston was completely dumbfounded. All the color drained from her face. She never, ever imagined that Jack Judd would point the finger at her at a time like this!

’What right does he have to accuse me like this?! This must be Vera Xavier’s doing!’
