Chapter 211: Keep Imitating Me
Vera instinctively took a step back, but her room was so small that the single step brought her right to the edge of the bed. The backs of her knees hit the frame, and she sat down directly on the mattress. This series of actions looked less like an evasion and more like a gradual, deepening seduction.
Vera stared blankly as he raised an eyebrow at her. "Go on, keep copying me!"
Vera: "..."
’She truly believed that once a person’s cold, aloof persona collapsed, they had no lower limit!’
She gave a sheepish laugh. "What were you doing just now? I didn’t see a thing!"
Before Nathaniel could even frown, she quickly put on a pained expression. "My arm hurts so much!"
Nathaniel gave her a long, meaningful look, then sat down in front of her. He opened his backpack and took out a pile of medication.
Upon seeing the medication, Vera belatedly realized it was everything the doctor had prescribed for her yesterday. At the time, she had been blushing so hard from his teasing that she’d completely forgotten about it. She had assumed she’d stuffed it all into her bag; it never occurred to her that he’d had it the whole time.
He methodically opened the medicine and rolled up her sleeve. Although her arm didn’t hurt as much as it had yesterday, the bruising looked even worse. A large, frightening patch of black and purple covered her skin.
His gaze instantly filled with heartache. Vera quickly said, "It just looks scary! It’s actually much better. It doesn’t hurt at all!"
With a single motion, Nathaniel made her wish she could swallow her words. He dabbed the ointment onto her arm.
Vera usually had a high pain tolerance, but this time she almost cried out.
Nathaniel glanced at her. "You said it didn’t hurt, so I used a bit more force."
Vera wanted to cry. ’Since when were you so brutally honest?’
Seeing the faint shimmer of tears in her eyes, Nathaniel’s heart ached for her. But what he said was, "Crying over such a minor injury. You really are delicate."
Vera pouted. "You think I’m you, completely immune to pain? I’m a girl, so what’s wrong with being a little delicate?"
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow. "How do you know I’m not afraid of pain?"
’Vera’s heart skipped a beat. She had said that based on her knowledge of him from her past life. There was one time when he, despite suffering a severe gunshot wound, had rushed to her side when he learned she was in danger. He took down more than a dozen thugs with his bare hands, blood staining his crisp white shirt, yet he never once made a sound of pain.’
’In this life, however, while they were much closer than before, he had never been injured, nor had he faced any situation that required him to endure such pain.’
’She felt her confidence waver. From the moment he’d walked in today, her thoughts had been a complete mess, and she’d been blurting things out without thinking.’
She huffed lightly. "It was just a guess. You guys are always training, and the intensity is so high. If you were afraid of pain, how could you possibly endure all that hardship?"
The look in Nathaniel’s eyes softened as he watched her. She continued, "I’ve always had so much admiration for people like you. You show up wherever there’s trouble, safeguarding the peace, silently protecting the people. You’re true heroes. And while my heart aches for you, I’m also incredibly proud of you."
