Vera Xavier nodded. "Don’t kill him. I still have questions for him."

Jack Judd answered, "You got it!"

Then, he dragged Wesley Kane into a back room and gagged him. Several thugs went in and gave him a brutal beating, the pain causing tears to stream down his face.

’For a scumbag like Wesley Kane,’ Vera thought, ’the best way to deal with him is a good beating. If one isn’t enough, give him two. If two aren’t enough, make it three. Just keep beating him until he finally learns his lesson!’

Fifteen minutes later, Jack Judd dragged Wesley Kane before Vera Xavier like a dead dog.

Vera Xavier pressed her foot against Wesley Kane’s face and asked with a smile, "So, do you still think I’m in love with you?"

It was a smile more radiant than any flower, yet it chilled Wesley Kane to the bone. He realized he had been completely wrong. He used to think she was just a naive country girl, easy to bully and ignorant of the world. But now, she seemed like a rose dipped in poison—exquisitely beautiful, yet deadly to the touch.

Wesley Kane trembled. "I was wrong!"

"Not bad. You’re finally seeing things clearly," Vera Xavier said, looking down at him. "Good. Let’s have a little chat."

Seeing the smile playing on her lips, Wesley Kane instinctively tried to shrink back, but his body was covered in injuries, and he couldn’t move an inch.

She stared at him. "This business with paying Jack Judd to come after me—was that your idea, or did someone put you up to it?"

Wesley Kane’s first instinct was to shift the blame, but Vera’s voice dropped. "I forgot to mention something. I have a bit of a pet peeve. I absolutely despise it when people lie to me. If I catch you lying, I’ll have you castrated."

Pathetically, Wesley Kane’s hands flew to cover his crotch. Vera Xavier let out a cold laugh, her eyes filled with contempt. He had no choice but to confess the entire story of how he’d been incited to harm Vera. He included every detail, from Rona Langdon secretly slipping him five hundred yuan to the reward Cara Preston had secretly promised him: once Vera’s reputation was ruined, she would be his to "play with."

’This explains a lot,’ Vera thought. ’It always seemed strange to me. Given Wesley’s opportunistic and cowardly nature—always bullying the weak while fearing the strong—he should have retreated into his shell and not dared to bother me again, especially after Master Nathan intervened on my behalf.’

Everything was just as she’d suspected. He’d only made his move because those two women from the Preston Family had provoked him.

The look in Vera Xavier’s eyes grew even colder. Wesley Kane swore to the heavens, "Everything I said is the absolute truth!"

Vera paid him no more mind, turning to Jack Judd. "Get him out of here."

’A scumbag like Wesley Kane doesn’t deserve to live in this world,’ she thought, ’but I don’t need to be the one to do it. It would only dirty my hands.’

Upon hearing her command, Jack Judd boisterously ordered a few of his thugs to drag Wesley Kane away. Vera glanced at the thugs’ rough handling of the man, and Jack immediately took the hint. "Easy, easy!" he yelled. "We’re with the Boss now! We’re classy thugs, so do it gently!"

Vera: "..."

’She was just worried their movements were too rough. If they dragged him too hard and shattered his already badly injured balls, she’d have a death on her hands, and that would just be a mess.’

After Wesley Kane was hauled away, Jack Judd sidled up to her. "Boss, any other orders?"

’Knowing Vera’s personality, there was no way she would let this go. However, the college entrance exams were just around the corner, so it wasn’t a good time to stir up more trouble. She had a lot of studying to do, and these scumbags weren’t worth her time.’

’Just because *she* wasn’t going to waste her own time didn’t mean she couldn’t waste someone else’s. Cara Preston’s, for instance. Oh, Cara wants to get into college, does she? Well, I’ll just have to make sure that doesn’t happen!’
