Chapter 186 - 137: The Alien Returns, One Man Breaks the Entire Defense Line
The next day, after lunch, Chen Yu and Lexi left for San Siro Stadium in a car a little after one in the afternoon.
The match was scheduled to kick off at three p.m.
The car pulled away from the hotel, and before they had gone far, the two could already feel the derby atmosphere.
The city streets were already narrow, and now they were completely gridlocked.
Both sides of the road were filled with fans walking to the stadium.
They were sharply divided, wearing jerseys of different colors, holding all sorts of signs, and with team logos stuck to their faces. Everyone was dressed up for the occasion, like it was a carnival.
The car crawled forward, but as they neared the stadium, it came to a complete stop.
"Why don’t we just walk from here?" Lexi suggested, her eyes wide with excitement as she watched the fans outside.
Many fans couldn’t get tickets and could only watch from outside the grounds.
They were blowing horns, sounding whistles, lighting flares, and some had even taken off their shirts to curse at the opposing side. The match hadn’t even started, yet it looked like the fans were about to start a brawl.
It was a scene you’d only see during the Super Bowl.
"Alright." It wasn’t far anyway. Chen Yu could already see the stadium, encircled by massive cylindrical pillars.
No wonder the media said Moratti always rode a bicycle to watch matches. It was simply more convenient.
Gallant, in the front seat, gestured for the driver to proceed slowly on his own, then immediately got out and followed them.
The three of them joined the stream of people, slowly making their way toward the stadium.
In front of the stadium, a huge crowd of ticketless fans had gathered. Some had even set up barbecue grills and were chugging beer.
People kept thrusting small flags into Chen Yu’s and Lexi’s hands.
Chen Yu also took an Inter scarf and put it on.
As they were walking, someone suddenly blocked Chen Yu’s path.
There were several of them, clearly drunk and shirtless.
Chen Yu’s first instinct was to pull Lexi behind him.
The one in the lead pointed at Chen Yu and started chattering excitedly to his companions.
The people with him grew more and more agitated and looked like they were about to rush over.
Gallant quickly stepped in front of them.
"Gallant, what are they saying?" Chen Yu asked warily.
While holding the men back and signaling for them to calm down, Gallant explained, "They recognize you. They know you’re the one who operated on Ronnie, and they want to thank you."
Ronaldo’s successful return wasn’t just covered by the local *Milan Sports*; many newspapers in Italy had run detailed reports introducing Chen Yu and even published his photo.
These Inter fans had recognized Chen Yu from those reports.
Stopped by Gallant, the fans started calling out to the others around them. In the blink of an eye, Chen Yu found himself surrounded.
He was surrounded by layers and layers of fans, too many to count.
They were all shouting excitedly. At first, it was a chaotic mess, but then the voices gradually unified.
"Grazie!"
Chen Yu knew that word. It meant "thank you" in Italian.
Lexi was a bit stunned. "Ronnie is pretty popular, huh?" she whispered.
’Of course he is,’ Chen Yu thought. ’He’s a FIFA World Player of the Year.’
"So what do we do now?" Lexi asked. The crowd was only getting bigger.
"Smile."
In the United States, smiling was a fundamental skill for a doctor. Chen Yu took Lexi’s arm, waved back at the surrounding fans, and then started smiling as he squeezed through the crowd toward the stadium.
Whistles, applause, and cheers erupted. The Inter fans were in a complete frenzy, as if welcoming a returning hero.
After finally squeezing out of the circle of fans, Chen Yu’s expression changed slightly.
Reporters!
There were even reporters who had rushed over after hearing the commotion.
Several microphones were already being thrust eagerly in front of Chen Yu.
Chen Yu regretted it. If he had known this would happen, he never would have gotten out of the car.
"Chen, how healthy is Ronnie right now? Can he help us win today’s match?" a reporter asked loudly in English.
The surrounding fans quieted down for a moment.
In an instant, countless pairs of eyes turned to Chen Yu.
Chen Yu cursed inwardly. ’The ball is round; how am I supposed to know if they’ll win the match?’
But what could he say in front of so many people? Chen Yu smiled and nodded. "Ronnie is very healthy, and I believe he can help the team win the match."
The surrounding fans instantly erupted, throwing their arms around each other’s shoulders and chanting a single word in unison.
Chen Yu had a good idea what it meant.
Revenge!
A derby match, the star player’s comeback game—Inter needed revenge.
By the time he finally made it into the stadium, Chen Yu was covered in a cold sweat.
"Lexi, you should go to the box first. I’m going to check on Ronnie," Chen Yu said after a moment’s thought.
Just like with Hardaway, this was Chen Yu’s first major patient to make a comeback in the world of soccer.
Chen Yu was still quite worried about Ronaldo’s condition.
He followed Gallant to the team’s locker room.
As they reached the door, he could faintly hear a noisy commotion from inside.
He pushed the door open, and the sound became clearer.
It sounded like they were arguing about something.
When he entered the main locker room area, he saw a shirtless Ronaldo speaking animatedly with someone.
Ronaldo turned his head and saw Chen Yu.
"Chen!"
Ronaldo’s eyes lit up. He rushed over excitedly and threw his arms around Chen Yu in a hug.
He must have just finished warming up, as he was still covered in sweat. Chen Yu silently mourned his brand-new suit as he gently patted Ronaldo’s back.
"Chen, your timing is perfect!"
Ronaldo pulled Chen Yu in front of the others. "I was just telling them that I’m incredibly healthy right now, that my body’s in fantastic shape, and that I can score two goals today, but they don’t believe me! Chen, you tell them just how healthy I am."
