The CEO's Regret: You made me your lie, I become your Loss

Chapter 361: She lied

"I didn’t..." Nolan started, hands up, backing toward the wall. "I swear, I didn’t touch her inappropriately, I was only..."

The first slap landed before he finished the sentence.

"How dare you," Amara said, voice shaking now, all the control from a moment ago gone.

"She’s lying, I swear I didn’t touch her, I was only helping with her."

The second slap came harder than the first.

By then the noise from downstairs had started filtering up, a few students drawn by the shouting, then more, phones already lifting halfway out of pockets before curiosity won out over discretion.

Amara didn’t seem to notice or care. She wrapped both arms around Justina, holding her the way she had at the police station weeks earlier, one hand already pulling her phone free to call Julian, voice tight and fast.

"You need to come now. Justina’s fine, she’s fine, but you need to come now."

By the time she ended the call, the doorway behind her was crowded two teachers pushing through the gathered students, phones lowering self-consciously under a teacher’s glare, someone already whispering the story into a shape that would be entirely different by morning.

Amara held her daughter through all of it, Justina’s face pressed into her shoulder, and didn’t loosen her grip once.

Julian was, by nature, a calm man. Amara had built a marriage around that calm for over a decade the steadiness of him in board meetings, in crises, in every version of chaos their life had thrown at them.

But calm, she’d learned long ago, had a very specific limit, and that limit lived entirely inside the word family.

The moment he stepped through the doorway and saw Justina crying in her mother’s arms, something in him went cold and sharp all at once.

"How dare you try to touch my daughter," he said, and his voice didn’t rise the way most people did when they were furious; it dropped instead, low and level, which was somehow worse.

"You’re finished. I will make you pay for this. I will make sure you never see daylight again. Do you hear me?"

From most men, in most rooms, that would have been an empty threat, the kind of thing said in anger and forgotten by morning.

But Julian Vale was the richest man in the country, and the girl crying in his wife’s arms was his daughter, and everyone standing in that room understood, without needing it explained twice, that nothing about that sentence was empty at all.

"I didn’t," Nolan tried again, voice cracking, but his words dissolved uselessly under the sound of Justina’s crying, which had somehow only grown louder since Julian walked in, and nobody in that crowded doorway was listening to anything Nolan had to say.

Whatever Justina had expected when the lie left her mouth upstairs, it hadn’t been this hadn’t been her father’s face gone this hard, hadn’t been the police already being called before she’d had time to think through what she’d started.

But her parents were not the kind of people who let something like this go, and by the time she understood how far it had already spun beyond her, there was no version of pulling it back that didn’t cost her more than she was willing to pay.

The police arrived within the hour, and the four of them Julian, Amara, Justina, and an officer who kept his notepad open the entire drive went to the station to file a formal complaint.

It was there that things nearly broke Julian’s calm entirely a second time.

"We’d like to have Justina examined," the officer said, gently but plainly, "as part of standard procedure for a report like this."

"Excuse me?" Julian’s voice cracked across the room. "You want to traumatize my daughter even further? Thank God nothing actually happened, because my wife arrived in time."

The officer held steady, patient in the way people trained for exactly this kind of pushback learned to be. "It’s procedure, Mr. Vale. It protects her, and it protects the case."

Julian looked like he wanted to argue further, but Amara’s hand found his arm, steadying him, and after a long moment he exhaled and nodded once, tightly.

"Tell them what happened, baby," Julian said instead, turning to his daughter, and Justina felt the full weight of the room settle onto her all at once her father’s fury, her mother’s careful, watchful silence, the officer’s pen already hovering over a blank page.

She thought fast, the way she’d been thinking fast since the moment her mother appeared in that doorway, building the story out of pieces that were at least half true, since her parents already knew about the drugs, already knew she and Nolan had history, already had every reason in the world to believe the worst of him.

"I got to the party and spilled a drink on my dress," she said, voice shaking, which cost her nothing to fake because she was shaking anyway, just not for the reason anyone in that room believed.

"I went upstairs to change. Nolan followed me into the room. He tried to touch me."

"She’s lying, that’s not true, I was only," Nolan tried one more time, from where he sat across the room, but the officer had already turned back to Justina, and nobody so much as glanced his way.

"Honey, take Justina home," Julian said quietly to Amara, and she was already rising, arm around her daughter, when the door opened one more time, and Sebastian walked in.

He stopped the moment he saw them, saw Justina still trembling against her mother’s side and whatever he’d rehearsed on the drive over seemed to leave him all at once.

He dropped to his knees right there in the middle of the station, hands pressed together, voice breaking.

"I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry for what happened. I can’t even look at you right now."

Amara said nothing. She didn’t look at him, didn’t slow her steps, just kept her arm around her daughter and walked straight past him and out of the station, the doors swinging shut behind them.
