Chapter 135: I will take care of it
"This is frustrating!" Claw roared as he cleaved through another plant creature, its body sent flying across the garden with a rage-filled kick.
Baldon arrived at his side, having just secured his daughter and mates in a safe room. The small creatures had been swarming the house from every direction, already injuring several warriors.
Even after placing them somewhere safe, Baldon knew it wouldn’t hold for long. With their numbers growing, it was only a matter of time before no corner of the house remained secure.
’I need to find the source of this mess.’ there would be no end to these small monsters unless he removed the problem from the source.
He could sense Claw’s frustration building.
He had to act quickly. Claw was the only other warrior here capable of facing whatever was behind this.
"Claw... I’m about to release a large amount of magic to draw it out. When I do, you need to strike before it retreats again."
Claw frowned. "You’re going to provoke it? Do you have that much magic to spare?"
Baldon grinned. "There’s a reason I led the front lines." His tone carried quiet pride, a reminder of why he stood so close to the head chief.
Without another word, he stepped forward, approaching the front gate.
Claw quickly moved to higher ground, climbing to the top of a tall tree for a clear view of the entire area.
Baldon rested his mace at his side and closed his eyes.
Concentrate.
Exhaling slowly, he drew upon the fifth limb of his being, the force that set him apart from the rest.
The power within him that allowed him to perceive the world through a different lens.
A faint glow spread across his body, and the air around him began to shift.
His head lowered slightly, his fist clenched, trembling.
A powerful gust burst outward, not an attack, but raw Gamma surging at an intense pace.
"Gruuuuu..."
A deep growl echoed from nearby.
Baldon’s eyes snapped open, widening at the sight before him.
From where he stood, he couldn’t even take in its full form.
A massive green tortoise loomed ahead, its shell layered with moss and small shrubs. Its thick legs pressed into the ground, cracking the surface beneath its weight. Its sheer presence made it hard to breathe at such close range.
Baldon stepped back, locking eyes with its dull grey gaze.
For a moment, it didn’t seem aggressive.
But the instant it opened its mouth, his impression shattered.
A red energy began to gather within its maw.
Gamma swirled into it, the air trembling under the growing pressure.
Baldon let out a low chuckle and lifted his mace.
"Come at me, you wretched creature!"
The energy kept building, and Baldon felt a sudden chill. That attack might devastate the surroundings more than it harmed him.
Just then—
"EAT THIS!"
Claw dropped from above, his axe kick crashing onto the monster’s head. The gathered energy scattered instantly as the creature recoiled, its head shaking violently.
Claw pushed off and leapt back, his dagger extending as he aimed for its neck—
"Huh?"
In an instant, the monster pulled its head into its shell. From within, a beam shot out before Claw could react.
"Gah!"
"Claw!"
Baldon rushed forward, grabbing him by the shoulder.
A deep wound had torn open across Claw’s right chest. Sweat beaded along his forehead as he clenched his teeth, barely holding back the pain.
Baldon looked up.
The creature was already gathering energy again.
Fucking bastard.
He set Claw down and charged.
His speed surged as he leapt into the air, bringing his mace down onto the shell with a heavy THUMP.
The impact rattled through his arms, but it struck true.
The creature groaned, its energy build faltering.
Then—
Protrusions began to rise along its back.
One... two... three...
Seven... fifteen.
More plant creatures began to emerge, each one larger and stronger than the last.
They leapt off the shell and rushed toward the house.
Baldon’s unease deepened.
If he focused on the giant beast, the smaller ones would tear through Claw and his family. But if he turned to deal with them, the larger creature would unleash devastation in a single strike.
’Tch... this is getting troublesome...’
He glanced at Claw. The young man was in no condition to fight. That blast had struck him at close range and nearly killed him. If anything, he needed treatment immediately.
’What should I do...’
Just as the situation reached a breaking point, two creatures lunged at Baldon from either side.
Caught off guard, he raised his mace to block.
But—
SQUELCH SLASH
Their claws never reached him. Both were cut down mid-lunge by someone else.
For a brief moment, Baldon considered the impossible... that Claw had somehow forced himself back up and intervened.
But when he turned to see his savior, he froze.
"You..." Baldon recognized the young man. The one who had protected his family in his absence.
"Can you handle that big one and stop it from causing havoc?" Luke asked, not even turning toward him.
The chief looked at the massive creature and muttered, "It won’t destroy a single home while I stand. But what about the others?"
Luke grinned, flicking his dagger lightly in his hand.
The blade shot forward, slicing through the air before embedding itself into a charging creature. A sharp screech rang out as it dropped to its knees, then collapsed lifelessly.
Luke glanced at Baldon. "Don’t worry about the small ones. I’ll keep them away from your house."
Baldon was taken aback by the precision of his attack and, more importantly, by the fact that he could even see these creatures.
Then... does that mean—
’No time to dwell on it.’
He tightened his grip around the mace and fixed his gaze on the towering monstrosity.
No one dares to threaten Baldon in his own home.
And whoever does...pays the price with their lives.
